Many years ago NCAA College Football had a play your rival feature. When I chose it while playing as UNT, it pitted me against New Mexico State. Considering that, I love UTSA being treated as our rival. We share a state and a conference, the games matter every year and neither school is regularly taking the other to the woodshed. We also ended the Meep Meeps undefeated season and knocked them out of the top 25. This may be too much information, but that game still warms my cockles.

Aside from Oregon, whenever a school changes its look all the time it makes me think the school lacks confidence in its identity. I wish UNT would stop altering its uniforms and helmets with each new coaching regime.

The green eagle on a black Texas and white helmet looks better than a black eagle on a green Texas and a black helmet. Texas State has an alternate helmet that also uses a Texas outline with uniform numbers inside it. Do any other Texas schools use the state's outline as a regular helmet element? It seems like UNT is trying to make that our primary look.

I don't know about that. NIL, the transfer portal and constant conference cannibalism have disillusioned a lot of fans about college football as a whole. I wouldn't expect the people rooting for schools they never attended to love the sport more now than they did 10 or 20 years ago.

The people who ran Hector the Eagle Dog and Agnes the Albino Squirrel for homecoming king and queen in 1989 loved UNT football. I know because my friends and NT Daily coworkers were the ones behind that effort and they were big fans during the Corky Nelson era. Hector and Agnes finished third. Hector was a dalmatian who was the cheerleaders' mascot and never missed a game. P.s. Keith Cash was out.
