  1. The 26-game conference winning streak and first bowl win in 56 years were not bland. Excellent summary of our coaching history overall, but Dickey deserved a more positive description than "bland as dishwater." He lifted the program up higher than we had been in a long time, even though it all ended in embarrassment, a coach fistfight at halftime and rec league jerseys.
  2. If we could just start the game like it was halftime and we were two touchdowns behind, we might be able to beat them. Tell Caponi to pretend that adjustments are needed because what we're doing on defense isn't working.
  3. Vegas thinks there is a 10 percent chance we will beat SMU, if I converted the odds to a percentage properly.
  4. A team has 22 starters except for Colorado, which has 21. Even if half of Kinne's starters were actually from Incarnate Word, the idea that bringing in a bunch of Incarnate Word players was an advantage for him is far-fetched. For the love of God it's Incarnate Word! A school that small which wasn't playing even FCS football 12 years ago isn't churning out players who can win at the FBS level. If Morris had arrived and brought in five Incarnate Word transfers we'd have thought "sweet Jesus our cupboard was bare."
  5. Only five players transferred from Incarnate Word to Texas State. https://www.on3.com/college/texas-state-bobcats/football/2023/transfers/ According to the linked site, Kinne got 19 incoming transfers total. Morris got nine.
  6. I feel like there were a handful of years of good defenses under McCarney and Littrell, but I can't figure out where to find those stats. Dickeyball was the last time I remember watching the defense being as much fun as watching the offense. Especially Booger bursting through lines like the Kool-Aid Man.
  7. UNT students don't walk.
  8. I don't know, but we do play them next season at DATCU and two years later at War Memorial in Laramie. Wyoming being the flagship university of the state isn't much advantage when the state has only 570,000 people in it. Denton County has 941,000 people.
  9. The pay was crappy but do you really think there were no FBS coordinators, head coaches or former head coaches who would've taken that job? One hundred coaches contacted RV. Jim Harbaugh, Nebraska OC Jay Norvell and (according to some reports) Jimbo Fisher all interviewed for it.
  10. You waited 12 months to post that. I look forward to your next one-year departure so I can start missing you as soon as possible. P.s. Y'all better take away Traylor's printer access. He sounds like a guy who has his resume open in Microsoft Word.
  11. The format change has been a significant boost to the ratings. Before the change, KNTU was getting a 0.1 percent share of the audience. Now it is getting 0.5, around the same as KLIF. https://ratings.radio-online.com/content/arb024 https://web.archive.org/web/20221004063337/https://ratings.radio-online.com/content/arb024 Hiding the UNT affiliation in station branding is a bad decision. Listeners across the northern parts of DFW should know they're listening to a station at UNT produced by students.
  12. I keep reading Kevorian Barnes' name as Kevorkian Barnes in the box score, which is fitting because he killed us.
  13. Before today, UNT was giving up 256.6 rushing yards and 475.5 total yards per game, which are dead last in the entire FBS. We're also giving up 36.6 points per game, which is sixth from the bottom. Today we gave up 287 rushing yards, 421 total yards and 37 points, so two of those three stats are getting worse. Morris could be a better offensive coach than Mike Leach and the Mean Green will have no chance next season if another Caponi defense is anywhere close to this bad. Instead of making next season his last chance to prove himself, how about the next three games?
  14. G.J. Kinne was hired by Texas State 11 days before Morris and had the other disadvantages you list. The Bobcats are 6-3 and have an upset win over Baylor. Jeff Traylor was hired by UTSA on Dec. 9, 2019. They went 5-2 in conference the next season (7-5 overall). First-year coaches hired after a season have had success. It just hasn't happened in Denton since Rod Rust in 1967.
  15. Seth Littrell couldn't win a bowl game and by the end UNT wasn't even competitive in those losses. He wasn't going to lead the Mean Green to success in our first season in the American.
  16. Darrell Dickey was hired 25 years ago and his teams had some really good defenses during the 26-game conference winning streak in the Sun Belt.
  17. I don't think rebuild vs. not rebuild is a real distinction in the era of the transfer portal and NIL. What would a rebuilding college football team do that a non-rebuilding team would not do? Everybody has to get better today. Nobody is helped by losing, unlike in pro sports with a draft that rewards it. Everybody needs to work the portal well or see other teams eat their lunch. Everybody needs to do as well at NIL as their conference mates. Morris isn't rebuilding. He's just not winning.
  18. That's not a good crowd on the hill behind him. Was it a mile walk to get there?
  19. That was not as much fun as the World Series.
  20. With three moral victories in a row, UNT just became moral bowl eligible.
  21. It worked, but Traylor going for it there was idiotic.
  22. The announcers are praising UNT for going for two to be down by 9 because that meant giving up another fourth quarter touchdown would mean we're within two scores. I think our strategies to win wouldn't include giving up another touchdown, but I guess I should be happy we got some praise.
  23. If you're an AD bringing in a big name with a proven track record, sure you leave them alone. If you're bringing in a one-year PAC-12 offensive coordinator who has four years as head coach at Incarnate Word, you get involved in their staffing decisions.
  24. I am confused by this response. You're saying that an AD should have no say in who a new head coach hires as his top assistants?
  25. How do we know the defense is bad when the scheme is so bad? It feels like the coaching is dragging us down on that side of the ball.
