  1. Does anyone know the over/under on our week off? I kid because I care, but I don't see us holding the bye week scoreless with this new defensive scheme.
  2. Dr. Bataille and Rick Villareal. They took the SMU loss a lot harder than anyone could have expected.
  3. I run some sites like this, so I know that it's a pain in the ass to allow open discussion and keep flamewars and other stuff from getting out of hand. Harry and the other admins have my support in running this board as they see fit. But I'm not clear on what's prompting all of the thread locks, aside from one of the painted "M-E-A-N G-R-E-E-N" students objecting to some comments here, so it's difficult to steer clear of the subjects that are causing so many problems.
  4. USF just beat Auburn in overtime, knocking off the No. 17 ranked team 26-23. This is the third ranked team the Bulls have beaten in the last three seasons. This school began playing football in 1997 and joined Division I-A in 2001. They have many of the same attributes as UNT -- a directional school that has a much lower profile than its in-state rivals in spite of huge enrollment (44,000 students at USF), a location in a football-rich state with some entrenched, storied programs that get all the love in the state lege. And yet, USF has become a legitimate mid-major program knocking on Top 25 status in 11 years. As a Florida resident and UNT grad, this drives me nuts. How did they do it?
  5. We're now at a point where UNT is a highlight of SMU's schedule -- a game they can market because their fans care so much about the win. To me, that's a good thing for both schools. A real crosstown rivalry, to match the one between SMU and TCU, would help all three DFW teams and get better media play.
  6. If he's trying to be the George Dunham of SMU, he has to show a preference for the home team. I didn't catch his remarks, but I'm inclined to cut him some slack for that reason. And I like the fact that yet another UNT sports broadcaster is out there making a name for himself. I hope the school's RATV program is using it as a selling point.
  7. Point taken, but be honest. Sideline shots of hot female fans during college football telecasts are the reason God invented Tivo.
  8. UNT's fans could be heard on the radio. At times it sounded like a home game.
  9. How can you hang this loss on a quarterback who threw for 601 yards? I caught this game on radio, not in person, but it sounded to me like the keys to the loss were our secondary play on defense and too many penalties. Daniel Meager and Casey Fitzgerald had one of the best offensive games in school history. If that's not enough to rack up a W, I'd look elsewhere for the blame.
  10. Speak for yourself. If we get enough of them, we might win the Moral National Championship.
  11. I started to lose enthusiasm for The Ticket after they fired Coop. They had a nice balance of sports talk to other talk going at that time, but around the time of Coop's departure it seemed like they went too far away from sports. When one of the great icons of sport died -- Joe DiMaggio I think -- it came up on the Musers and they gave it 10 seconds of time before getting back to shtick. The only non-sports stuff I would listen to on The Ticket is Gordon Keith. Everyone else brought on in his likeness has been a spare.
  12. That's hilarious. I've always felt some sympathy for Chuck Cooperstein after watching him do a mid-day remote for The Ticket at the then-Ballpark in Arlington. They put him next to the kiddie baseball field, and he was sitting at a folding table holding his papers to keep them from blowing away and doing his show. No one was within 20 feet of him, and I appeared to be the only fan among hundreds walking by who even cared to see him there. But after hearing that, Coop is the devil. Even if he was right.
  13. This timeline is way too patient. If Sun Belt domination is only "a possibility" by 2010, Dodge will be a disappointment. I'm looking for a Sun Belt championship next season and better things in '09 and '10.
  14. I cheered when Dodge went for it on fourth down early in the first half, rather than kicking a field goal that would've made the score 21-3. Getting the goose egg off the board is OK in the third quarter when there's no chance of a comeback, but if you're not playing to win in the first half, you're telling the team that it's OK to lose.
  15. No offense, but what's with all of the people telling us here to move on? The debut of the Todd Dodge era has been obsessively anticipated for months. OU hung more points on us than any other school in our history. I can't speak for the other mopes, but I need at least until Wednesday to fully suffer this loss.
  16. Thanks for taking the time to post this. I've been a member of GoMeanGreen.Com for almost as long as the site's been around, and most of the comments here related to the band have been positive. Even in some lean years for the football team, one thing UNT fans could count on was a band that demonstrated our greatness as a music school.
  17. Like what? If you care enough to tell the guy he doesn't know what he's talking about, tell the rest of us what makes a good marching performance.
  18. From the AP report on the game: http://msn.foxsports.com/cfb/story/7175440
  19. I don't fault Stoops. The score -- the highest total by an opponent in UNT history, and three points short of the all-time worst loss -- was the result of Dodge continuing to pass the ball. The game's an embarrassment, but it's still just one loss whether you lose by seven or seventy. I've got some admiration for Dodge pursuing the pass all game long, knowing he could just run the clock out and avoid a historic debacle. He knew the passing offense needed the work, so he kept it up. If we win some games with that offense this year, we'll forget Oklahoma.
  20. Are you sure Oklahoma is not that good? That frosh quarterback and his receiving core looked like they could beat anybody.
  21. Most of our money games against OU-caliber teams have been for $250,000 to $400,000.
  22. That's not the first time Carr has done that. Based on another game I saw where he chewed up a halftime reporter, I'm guessing that Carr tears reporters a new one on a regular basis.
  23. You forget something. We adopted Diet Coke Boy with DD. I'll move on when he catches up on child support.
  24. It's on DirecTV 220 if you want to catch the end.
  25. UNT fans should cut those Utah State fans some slack. They're in for a world of hurt -- the death of a thousand draw plays.
