  1. Sheesh. Tough crowd.
  2. Thanks. If it's any consolation, if Mendoza comes back and the defense has a good year, I don't think anyone here will be remembered for backing him more vociferously than you did.
  3. http://public.fotki.com/cubanprncs81/fiu_s...vs-north-texas/ The box score from the AP claimed 10,000 people attended. 9,000 of them must have been in the bathroom during these shots.
  4. Not sure I follow you here, GreenBat. I think it's a mistake to bring Coach Mendoza back, but I'm prepared to live with it.
  5. No one is talking about running Coach Dodge out of town.
  6. Y'all should live in Florida. You have no idea how hard these fans are on the Florida Gators, or what they were like when Ron Zook was head coach.
  7. I've been supporting this program since 1988. Do you think that if you insult people here long enough, the last season will magically stop sucking and we'll pick up a couple of wins retroactively?
  8. The idea that we were patient with Dickey and are not being patient with Dodge is not true. Dickey was on the verge of being fired when the Mean Green began their conference win streak. He saved his job with on-field success. Weird concept, eh?
  9. Dumb question. I'd rather be 4-8 or 5-7 under Coach Dodge, which is what North Texas would have been with an average defense.
  10. I wouldn't be throwing around insults with an argument as weak as the one you're making. UNT was No. 4 in ESPN's Bottom 10 when they lost to FIU, which was No. 1. The Mean Green can make a strong case for being reverse national champions. Though we won twice, we lost to two of the one win teams -- SMU and FIU. The only teams that might take the title from us would be one-game winners Duke, Minnesota or Idaho. Sagarin has all three ahead of us and SMU and FIU slightly behind. I suspect that the college football magazines next year will not be kind.
  11. Does anyone know who we played in 1913, the first season of UNT football? I've been doing research on early teams, and I can't find this game anywhere.
  12. I was the editor of the Daily when that occured. We caught hell from the journalism professors advising the paper because we ran a front-page photo of K State's fans tearing down their goalposts. I knew at the time it would be one of UNT's most infamous losses. I couldn't believe it when K State became a top 10 team later.
  13. I'm eager to see what Coach Dodge can do with a full recruiting season. But this was a terrible year, and I think it really puts pressure on him next year to produce results. Maybe not pressure from the school, but another season like this one and casual fans and the Dallas media will write him off.
  14. Please rank the following, from most likely to hurt recruiting to least likely to hurt recruiting: * Having the 119th ranked scoring defense out of 119 teams * Ending up with a 2-10 record * Being the last-place team in the worst conference in I-A * Giving up 74 points in a single game * Having a fan message board with negative comments about a coach If you had your way and we pretended Dodge's first year wasn't a colossal embarrassment, do you really think recruiting would be better? Student athletes aren't idiots. They would know things were bad in 2007 without us telling them.
  15. FIU throwing it deep with 1:21 left. Classy move!
  16. I don't think Dodge can back out of his assurance to bring Mendoza back without looking dishonest. I figure it's a stone cold lock that we get one more year of his efensive schemes.
  17. Maybe there's also some Orange Bowl mojo. Most FIU players are from South Florida, I'd imagine. That field is huge in the imagination of Miami sports fans. (Pretty big elsewhere too.)
  18. I don't know if good times are coming, but I think it was harder to be a UNT fan during the Big West years than it is today. They could clone Coach Mendoza and put him in charge of quarterbacks and special teams and it would still be better than being the doormat of the Mountain time zone.
  19. Anyone know how much money UNT athletics gets from the premium subscription? I just paid for an annual subscription to this feed I can't watch!
  20. Is anyone from the board in Miami today and going to the game? I am about five hours away and could attend, but the idea of driving into the lousy neighborhood around the Orange Bowl for a night game isn't particularly appealing -- even though it's the last football game ever to be played there. They're giving tickets away to people who bring canned goods and toys. A crowd of 2,000 would probably be an unexpectedly good turnout.
  21. I'd love to have Texas State in the Belt with us as well. Wish it could happen sooner.
  22. College coaches back out of commitments all the time when a better deal comes along. I don't expect Coach Dodge to do it, especially with his son planning to attend UNT, but it wouldn't be a complete shock if he did.
  23. I was going by this: http://football.stassen.com/cgi-bin/record...thern_Methodist Looks like one of those seasons was 5-6 until Tech lost a win for ineligible players.
  24. SMU has only had two winning seasons since the imposition of the death penalty in 1987, and both of them were 6-5 years. I'd like to see them pick things up again, because it makes for a better crosstown rivalry, but I don't see a reason to think it will happen.
