  1. I hate the decision to burn Derek Thompson's redshirt. But I'd like to play devil's advocate with benefit of a little time to think. In fairness to Dodge, how much would Thompson have played this season if he wasn't redshirted? He got the third-string quarterback's practice time and a year of prep in Dodge's offense. If Dodge hadn't redshirted him at all this year, he would've gotten the third-string quarterback's practice time and a year of prep. As a non-redshirt freshman, he would not have played this year unless the number two goes down in a game. That didn't happen until the final game. Although Thompson has lost a year of his collegiate career he thought he'd have, we don't know how all of this will play out. If Dodge is gone and Riley follows him out the door, Thompson goes into next season as a contender for the starting job. He didn't hurt his chances with that short, flawless touchdown drive. If Dodge stays, Thompson competes with Tune for the backup job behind an injury prone starter. The year this decision hurts Thompson most is in 2013. By then, who knows what the quarterback situation is like?
  2. Calling people haters is stupid. Anyone who has stuck around for another pathetic year of Dodgeball is a loyal fan of UNT and a masochist.
  3. I think it was a chump move by Carroll -- and he made it worse by dancing around afterward like USC won the national championship. So many USC players were jumping around like Kris Kross that the sidelines cleared and it almost became a brawl. Check out the video:
  4. Veteran LA Times sportswriter Bill Plaschke says that Carroll didn't go for another score until after he took a knee and Neuheisel called timeout to stop the clock. http://www.latimes.com/sports/college/usc/...,5628166.column "In the end, while his players deserved better, Neuheisel got exactly what he deserved. ... By calling a timeout, Neuheisel was making it clear that he did not agree with Carroll's decision to take a knee. So Carroll said fine, he would keep playing."
  5. Anyone who values an entire season for a quarterback that he redshirted. Respect it? Screw that. It was an idiotic decision, and thus far your arguments are only making it seem more idiotic.
  6. What do you think the odds were of coming back at all? Was the improvement in odds between Thompson vs. the wildcat *so great* that you would sacrifice an entire season of his football eligibility? It was a stupid and thoughtless move. Even if you believe Dodge is a class act, as many people here do, that was not his shining moment.
  7. And you should be Dodge's Coke boy.
  8. The uniforms were rec league quality, didn't contain the conference logo or the names of players, weren't cleared with the AD beforehand and violated the agreement with the team's uniform sponsor. If it had been a planned thing in reaction to a player request, it wouldn't have been so half-assed. It was Dickey's F-U to the school and its fans.
  9. I'm beginning to see why you'd defend such a stupid decision. There's no comparison between playing a freshman an entire season and throwing him in at the end for a couple of snaps while he's redshirted.
  10. That story about the seniors wanting to wear the black jerseys for the final game was total BS, according to parents of players on that team. It was Dickey's idea, and he blamed it on the players.
  11. You don't see the difference between playing a redshirt for an entire game and bringing him in for a nearly hopeless comeback attempt with 2:33 left?
  12. I don't think Dodge did this to spite UNT. I think he's just completely over his head as a college coach and needs to get gone.
  13. Just heard Dodge's explanation. He doesn't give a crap about Thompson's eligibility. No concern at all. I hope we send this clown packing.
  14. I miss Dickey. At least he only messed with black shirts instead of red ones.
  15. That seems stupid to me. We redshirted him for a reason. Now we've lost the benefit of that, and all he has to show for it is one drive of less than a minute. How would you feel if you were Thompson? Why stick around when you're that unimportant to the program?
  16. Even George and Hank, who do everything they can to give Dodge the benefit of the doubt, were stunned by this decision.
  17. No biggee?
  18. Even if Tune was hurt, I'd rather see the team direct snap to the running back than blow up an entire season of eligibility for Derek Thompson.
  19. Delete. The discussion is here: http://www.gomeangreen.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=49945
  20. I don't think Dodge is going to get fired.
  21. I've seen enough to think we need a coaching change.
  22. Stupid question. As for people bashing Dodge at every turn, what has the team accomplished that does not merit criticism? Surely you are not happy with the results he is getting.
  23. With all the talk of Dodge crying after games -- I didn't hear the shows, so I don't know if it's true -- it makes me wonder whether he can handle adversity. It's not like he faced much of it coaching high school.
  24. As long as we're comparing Dickey and Dodge, it's worth pointing this out: Dodge is 5-30 in his first 35 games with UNT, with wins over Western Kentucky (three times), Ball State, Louisiana-Monroe and 11 losses of 30 or more points. Dickey was 8-27 at the same point in his tenure, with wins over Boise State (twice), New Mexico State (twice), Louisiana-Lafayette, Nevada, Samford and Texas Tech, and two losses of 30 or more points. Dickey started out much better than Dodge. His teams were almost never blown out and he had a few high-profile wins against Texas Tech and Boise State.
  25. She's not really leaving -- just getting out from that show deal and starting her own daily show on OWN -- the Oprah cable network. There's no escape.
