8-9 years ago, this entire thing would have sounded implausible verging on completely absurd. In fact, back in 2002, I doubt Dickey, Coker, nor Fran could have imagined this is how it would all play out.

It probably costs money. And I imagine it's just one component of a larger campaign to connect and endear the new staff with the people of Denton. So it's probably a worthwhile and nominal expense.

I think it would be great if Todd Dodge and Riley end up somewhere like SFA. Both class individuals and Riley would be a terror at the FCS level.

I think maybe this works out for everyone involved. I imagine it would be incredibly difficult to play here after your dad- who has probably coached Riley his entire life- was let go after having very little success. And I think Riley could have two outstanding years at one of the Division 1AA schools in Texas. If I were him, I'd head down to San Marcos. Nice scenery, plenty of trim. As for UNT, we're fine. We'll find a solid JuCo, recruit some QBs for the future and life will move will continue as it should. Fresh Starts For All!

Is there any precedence with a conference adding a school on condition they field a certain sport by a given time? For example, MWC extends UNT bid under agreement it will add baseball by 20XX.

I'm kind of with you on this one. The school provide the venue and all the support they need to catapult the "superstars" careers and make them household nams, which will most certainly lead to millions of dollars on down the line.
