THIS IS MY BIT
-
We get blown out (fact) by a better-than-advertised (maybe) FIU team on the road to open the season. We now have 10 days to prepare for home opener in a brand new stadium (fact) before a sell out crowd (maybe). UH beats UCLA (maybe) and the hype machine begins (certainly). UH is a 24 point favorite (maybe) in Denton. And then, my friends...then comes September 10th, and we bear witness to the greatest (debatable) upset in Mean Green history. Later, FIU goes undefeated on the season (maybe). People everywhere are like "well, you know, the Sun Belt maybe isn't that terrible." McCarney continues to recruit his guys. The players learn from this experience (probably), buy into the system (totally). 2014 comes and we beat SMU (who is still not in an AQ conference) by 51 points (or so). It's all part of the master plan. This was the first step. Patience.

Yes.

Well, it really can't get any worse. (I feel like I've said that a lot the last 5 years)

We are a bad, bad football team.

They are tonight!

I just plugged my laptop into my tv using a VGA cable. If your TV doesn't have a VGA input, I don't know what to tell you, as I was asking about all this earlier this week (read: not tech-savvy)

Astros and Rockets came together to work a deal with Fox.

Hi Big 12, I know you're drunk but....

Rice and UH are taking a different approach to expansion candidacy. -
Why does this keep coming up? If A&M only needs 9 out of 12 schools to get into the SEC, surely CUSA doesn't require a 100% agreement on membership...do they?

Perception is everything. Which is why, lame as it may be, I agree... we should have a site with OUR selling points, why this University matters, etc... because quite frankly, most people outside of DFW don't know a damned thing about UNT. -
So begins the end of college football as we know it. It's been heading that way for a while, but the snowball is head downhill. I don't want to sound overly dramatic, but as the dominoes start to fall, it doesn't seem to bode well for UNT. Hope I'm wrong.

Know Thy Enemy... Coach Cristobal Interview
Eagle1855 replied to All About UNT's topic in Mean Green Football
I think you just feel like arguing. I got a cable. We'll plug it into the TV. I'll be overwhelmed with joy. Absolutely no other college football fan outside of FIU and UNT is going to do that. Therefore, I'd hardly call it nationally televised. More like nationally available. -

Know Thy Enemy... Coach Cristobal Interview
Eagle1855 replied to All About UNT's topic in Mean Green Football
What don't you understand? He was the Sun Belt Coach of the Year at what I consider to be mostly an afterthought of a university. And I'm hoping for a win. If you need in in Spanish, I can do that, too. -

He's a good coach that's doing a good job with what he's got. Nothing but respect. That being said, I hope we absolutely dominate them on national TV on Thursday. -
'Voice of the Longhorns' talking UNT football
Eagle1855 replied to Baby Arm!'s topic in Mean Green Football
That's because Texas slept with everyone on this board's significant others. Surprised you didn't know that. -
Who said we haven't? In fact, I would be surprised if we haven't. Rick V made a comment a few years ago that they were thinking bigger than C-USA (which I realize to some, it's hard to imagine there being any such thing).
-
Agreed all around. Someone's going to have to take a gamble on our potential, not our track record. And the selling of our potential will have to be done by those that run our university. Like TIgreen01 said, I feel reasonably confident in those people... just feel like it would be so much easier if the product were a tad more polished. Time will tell. Until then, I hope we kick UH's face in. That's a good start.
-
Not if those are the only members left in said conference. If the run on schools begins, UCF and ECU will most definitely be considered to fill spaces in the ACC, Big East. Then again, if that happened, you can bet the Sun Belt is going to get raided as well to even out C-USA. ha. However, I DO agree, if it is just one of those schools (UCF, Houston, SMU, or ECU) that goes, C-USA is clearly a better option than the Belt. That being said, C-USA isn't our BEST-case scenario. A BCS conference is our best-case. And I think RV agrees. Anyways, all of this is just a bunch of "what if" scenarios in effort to avoid doing any work today! As for the Big 12 grabbing ND and Pitt, that seems to be a long shot at best, according to this article by Chip Brown.

All of this is pure speculation on everyone's part but I agree- I just don't see what value SMU brings to the Big 12. Just because SMU has been vocal about wanting to join doesn't mean they have any greater shot at doing so. Just for the record, I want a new Ferrari 458 Italia. I just announced it on the internet. But I doubt it gives me much leg up on a guy that is quietly saving for one. If SMU and UH were to end up in other BCS conferences (stretch as it may be), C-USA is far less appealing to UNT. That being said, I don't think SMU brings anything to the Big 12 table and this is little more than wishful posturing by their people.
-
Also, why do people keep acting like a move to C-USA is a best-case for UNT? Without SMU and UH, what good is that conference to us? Suppose ECU and/or UCF also get picked off? Then it's no more stable and only slightly more competitive than the WAC. I may be suffering from chicken little syndrome, this morning, but A&M's move at this time may end up hurting us a lot more than it helps.
-
SMU to the Big 12 would be the worst-case scenario for UNT. That puts two BCS schools in the Metroplex when we're already surrounded by several others just a few hours away. That would seemingly forever-relegate UNT to second-tier status, athletically.

bump.

We lost something like 5 games by one score or less last year, seemingly in spite of ourselves. That's my cause for optimism.
