  1. No one needs to try to keep UNT down, it's done a mighty fine job of that on it's own for a long, long time. This sleeping giant has had Ambien pumped into it since Pope Hayden Fry left. I fail to see the association between the relative size of one's genitalia and being realistic about how the rest of the state and nation view UNT as an institution and as an athletics program. Yes, our alma mater has made tremendous strides in the last decade. Yes, we have a lot to offer. However some of us recognize that outside DFW, UNT is still a largely unknown entity. I applaud the strides we've made. I am a strong supporter and advocate of all things UNT. But my wishful and hopeful thinking doesn't make us a candidate for admission into the SEC in any part of the universe outside my own admittedly strange and slightly deluded alcohol-soaked brain.
  2. OU doesn't have an option in the Pac-12 without Texas, that has already been made clear. In my opinion, neither UT nor OU has a truly "better" option than the Big 12 remaining intact. At least, geographically speaking. Sure, the ACC or the Big 10 may show some interest without the LHN or other hindrances, but neither of those conferences is going to take an OK State or a Texas Tech. So that leaves both schools traveling a ton. Texas doesn't want to play baseball in the Big 10. The SEC would love an OU involved, but that's the only move that would make any sense in this situation. So the best bet for all schools involved is to work out a fair, equitable first and second tier deal for all teams involved in a conference that geographically makes sense. And if A&M had stayed, this easily would have been the second-best football conference in the nation this year, and probably next. Pretty strong basketball conference, too. Again, just my opinion. I think all this realignment stuff is stupid. Baylor, too.
  3. If Texas doesn't want TCU, I can't see any appeal to UNT. They already have DFW. And if I'm being wholly objective, we aren't perceived to be a better academic institution than TCU or SMU. Or even UH, in many areas. So again, besides potential, I don't see what we have to offer that the Big 12 a) doesn't already have or b ) is improved by our addition. What's the advantage to UNT over Louisville, Memphis, or similar? Again, I love my alma mater, but I'm just trying to be realistic.
  4. Not really. But in any case, why should they concede? They are the only reason most of the Big 12 teams make the money they make. Everyone is celebrating A&M "doing what's best for them" but I can't see how this is much different. Texas doesn't have to care just like the rest of the teams don't have to put up with it. Again, Baylor athletics wouldn't be anything if it hadn't been aligned with Texas. Seriously though, is there anyone on this board that would honestly advocate UNT leaving $300M on the table because we care so much about how MTSU or Troy feels about us having a lucrative TV deal, in the interest of being "fair" to our conference mates? I sure as hell wouldn't. And I think anyone that says otherwise is deluding themselves.
  5. This is pretty much all I've left to say on this subject.
  6. No, it's actually quite easy to judge the true talent we have, based exactly on these three games. If we want to be an Alabama, a UH... or even just an FIU, we know we have a lot of work to do. We'd like to get back to the days of winning the Belt, but that alone isn't enough. We didn't build that stadium to go back to 2001-2004. We built that stadium and brought in McCarney to one day be able to square off against the UH's of the world, playing competitve games against the Alabama's of the world, and to be favored against the FIU's of the world.
  7. He may not be a "running" QB, but Keenum definitely made some plays with his feet. There were several instances when we had them in a third down situation where he kept the play and drive alive out-running the defender (if not completely, enough to let something else open up).
  8. Haha. No, they'll go to whatever conference they think is the next-best alternative to the Big 12 that will allow them to keep the cash cow (get it?) that is the LHN. Which I'm now hearing is...the ACC??
  9. Isn't the internet fun? http://www.chron.com/CDA/archives/archive.mpl?id=1994_1185849 Oh the irony...
  10. Both of these teams are largely made up of Texas players. So it makes you wonder how thats going to look, moving forward, if neither has any regularly-scheduled games in this State. Also, if parents coming to watch their kids play is a big deal, what kid is going to go to OSU, where their closest game is in Norman, and after that, Colorado?
  11. To be fair, I heard plenty of idiots on our (UNT) side making unwarranted jerk-wad remarks to UH fans, too. But I agree 100%, more games with UH is a good thing for all parties involved. DO IT, RICK.
  12. Seconded, on all accounts. This is a legit D-1 operation, now. Cannot wait to see what McCarney can do, with a little more time on the job. The alumni side was a dreadful bore, so I'll be getting tix on the other side of the stadium next time. Other than that, I've no complaints. I have on good authority the skinny, long-haired country singer's lovely girlfriend- who herself holds a pair of degrees from Satan's Austin Empire- kept going on and on about what a terrific game day experience UNT is and how much fun she had. And she loved the uniforms. So there's that.
  13. Houston's O-line (and to a slightly lesser degree, Keenum's pocket presence/ability to escape pressure) was a difference in the second half, ergo game. If Keenum has time, he'll make plays. He made some great throws. His receiving core is a talented bunch that can get open. This is a good Houston team. We also didn't capitalize on their slow start. We could have jumped out to a much bigger lead earlier on had it not been for stupid turnovers. It is what it is. Overall, I was proud of our guys.
  14. I'm about to start a thread on beards, methods of cooking meat we shoot ourselves, chopping wood, and drinking whiskey the way it was intended: without a mixer.
  15. I don't want to do this, but I have to: If you build it, they will come. Isn't that what we've been saying all along?
  16. Galleria smack? My God man.... you aren't helping!
  17. Ah yes, I was there for half of it. The regulation part.
  18. Oh God, was that the 7 OT game?
  19. No, they put the kibosh on that for this go round. Working out another stadium date. They were concerned with overlapping noise from the other acts that will be playing in the Mean Green Village. So we're gonna see how it goes this time to see if that is in fact a valid concern.
  20. I don't think I've ever heard UH fans called pompous. Irrelevant, leftover step-children, perhaps... but never pompous.
  21. In related news, I'm gonna play an acoustic set at the Sigma Chi tailgate around 330 or 4pm, tomorrow. We're a (mostly) good bunch of people. Come say hello. Have a beer. Have some food. Yes, this is shameless self-promo. Yes, I'm fine with it. Happy Stadium Opening Eve!
  22. Thanks for the info.
  23. Anyone know if generators are allowed? I'd assume so, but didn't know if anyone had any concrete info on that.
  24. You'll make a lot of friends over here running up the score on SMU. Less, doing it to us.... DO YOU HEAR THAT RICE?!
