Here are the three things that I think keep us from any serious AQ discussions: We don't play baseball. We don't even have a time-table to add baseball.We wouldn't immediately compete to win the league in any sports. And yes, that includes basketball.Our stadium is very, very nice, but by Big12 standards, it is small- like 20k smaller than the next smallest Big 12 stadium. Potential is good. Realized potential is way better. I think our Athletics Department is a decade away from being a serious contender in the AQ race. And I think that's okay. All we can do is win and improve our brand. Boise proved that conference alone cannot hold you back from being great. The sleeping giant has rested enough, it's time to rise and shine.

We may be a sleeping giant- that has been well-established- but I'm assuming the Big 12 is looking for a team that's already awake.

Oh we got it. And that was my point: one can't objectively criticize the current Cowboy team without having to hear about how great the past teams were. The key word, of course, being were.

I think most Dallas fans love to think their team is just a QB away from winning another Super Bowl, but in my semi-objective opinion, Romo is the least of your concerns. I'm no Cowboys fan, but I'm a Romo fan. And any QB would have a tough time winning with the guys they trotted out on the offense last night. Dallas fans seem to suffer the same delusions of grandeur as Notre Dame fans; the brand is stronger than the product. But hey, at least you guys have won something in the past. In Houston, there's no win, only self-deprecation.

I don't know if this has yet been posted, but I thought it was a fascinating, though lengthy read on the NCAA, how it began and how it arrived where it is now. I think it's kind of cool to see the excitement. To anyone that thinks these uniforms don't mean something to these kids, this seems to be evidence to the contrary. Good for them.

If that is the case, and I was running the Big 12, I'd have to at least consider bringing UH with BYU. That leaves you with a very solid mostly-regional conference. Every argument we make for UNT's potential in DFW can be made for UH in Houston- a market that will now be largely held by the SEC with the rather large contingency of A&M and LSU fans that live and play here.

Make no mistake, I absolutely believe in UNT and Denton... I just also am reminded on a daily basis I am still in the minority, even among other UNT alums. That being said, this is a great article and endorsement for UNT and I'm very proud of all the hard work our administration has done on both sides of the highway.
