First Year Head Coach Wins Again At Ark St

If it costs money to have an opinion, then you've bested me on this one. If it takes a brain with rational thought, we'll call it even. -
World Series

There isn't a man in baseball I respect more, when at the plate. I still remember the homerun he hit against the Astros in the NLCS. I understand it landed somewhere in Conroe. This will be a good match-up, and I full-expect it to go the distance. As an Astros fan, I'd love to see Lance Berkman get a ring, since he couldn't do it with the shell of a franchise Houston has become. But I don't really care who wins. Just a FAN of October baseball! -
First Year Head Coach Wins Again At Ark St

We made the worst coaching hire in the history of college football a few years ago, which I, as well as many others, was categorically opposed to from the get-go. There's nothing that can be done to erase that. This isn't a blame game, it's just the facts. We don't have consistent QB play, which renders our running game largely irrelevant. We don't have depth, at any position, which is why we get our tails handed to us in the second half (you'll note Ark State put this game away with a 21-point 4th quarter). Complaining about wanting to win now is great but it accomplishes very little. We are not a complete team. I fully expect Mac and the boys will win on Saturday. And I think there's still another win or two out there. 5 wins is more than we've managed in God knows how long. I'm not content with 5 wins, but I'm content to give the man more than 6 games before I start bitching about what he hasn't done. Look for a big second year. -

Two things to remember: 1) a lot of people have seen game film of FIU since we opened against them, 2) we've got a talent deficiency, especially as related to depth, when compared to most other D1 programs. Our time will come. Annoying as it is to have to wait a bit longer, it will come. -
Personally, I like "the Eyes of North Texas" bit. I'd also suggest we start throwing tortillas when we score. We should also get the fans more involved, perhaps give the collective crowd at games clever name. Maybe something like "the 12th Man", because it's almost like the crowd gives us the same kind of edge another player would, if that makes sense. If we can manage to implement these three things, we should be almost impossible to beat on the recruiting trail in Texas.

I do hope he called FFR.

Do you agree with the Homecoming Time Change from 6pm to 4pm?

A POLL! FINALLY! -
But just for the sake of having a discussion, what if it were?

The only fair way for RV to make truly make an informed decision would have been to post a poll to the board and clearly state all the options, then let us have a measured, open debate (as we usually do) and then submitting the results to the University admin for their approval. I think Rick's lack of willingness to poll the message board really says a lot about the state of this program. -
If we aren't careful, they might just pass us by.

I think your lack of willingness to at least explore the creation of a parallel universe says a lot about the state of this program. -

Okay, what is the source of this arbitrary "5,000" number that everyone keeps throwing around? If 2 hours = 5,000 people, I'll go on record and say I support moving the game to 11am for the sell-out. Maybe the B1G conference had it right all along. Clever AAU schools! -

You've obviously never been to a big-time program on game day. This is PRECISELY who brings the bucks. It's precisely what spawned the expansion of the North End Zone at UT, which requires something like a $10k donation for the chance to pay for the $110-per club level seats, which I can tell you aren't that great. It's what paid for the $100M renovation of Amon Carter. It's what funded Ford Stadium. It's what paid for Ok State's renovations. Hard core fans ARE your bucks. We just don't have enough of them. Yet.

I'm sorry to hear it. It was my chief and only real concern when they discussed changing the times. Fact is, the people it hurts most is those that were traveling from out of town on Saturday. Anyways, we'll cheer extra loud!

Unbelievable- Benson Still Talking UNT/ULL
Eagle1855 replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
The rest of my point was that we are largely irrelevant in the state of Texas. And now that three other previously non-BCS schools are going the BCS route, one can assume it will only get worse. What the Sun Belt conference has done to raise the national profile of UNT or better yet, how it has positively impacted our presence in the state of Texas (which is where we recruit)? I hate the idea of the WAC, but I'm also sick of playing a bunch of schools no one in this state has heard of unless their college has scheduled them as a tune-up game for an opener. I'm not advocating the WAC, I'm just wondering if the addition of Texas State and UTSA has to at least cause some thought on a change. Sincerely, A Guy Who Is Content To Let The Belt "Build Itself" -
I doubt this has anything to do with alumni attendance. I mean, Denton isn't really "on the way" to anywhere in the Metroplex, so it's not like people watching a 7pm Rangers game are going to drive an hour to Denton, then stay for a quarter, then head back to Dallas, FW, or some Mid-City town. I don't think this accomplishes much of anything outside of Denton. This move must have been for the students. If that's the angle, I'll buy it.
-
This won't do anything to affect attendance. Its stupid. If you were gonna go Bush-league and move your homecoming game, at least do it early enough to make a substantial difference. I now have to alter plans I had earlier in the day. Which isn't a big deal because I'm as flexible as Simon Rex. At this point, my chief annoyance is that it will be decidedly warmer (less comfortable) during the game and I LOVE fall night games in Denton, but hey, we'll get over it.

Eagle1855 replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
I'm not a fan of playing in the WAC. But I do have a semi-serious question related to all this. Is the Sunbelt without a Texas rival really that much better than a sh*t conference with two local up-and-comers that will become instant rivalries which are easily accessible to UNT fans all over the state? I mean, at least then we'd be relevant in parts of the state. We're about to be one of the only three current Div 1A programs in the state that aren't in BCS conferences. What the hell good does playing WKU, FIU, or FAU really do us? When was the last time we got a Florida, Kentucky, or Tennessee, recruit? If we're left out of C-USA, we have to at least consider joining a conference with UTSA and Texas State, if for no other reason than to have influence in a Texas market that isn't DFW.
