Changes in MLB
Eagle1855 replied to BeanCounterGrad'03's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
for sure. But as Cowtown pointed out, this moves benefits the Rangers more than anyone else. -
We didn't "lose" the fan base we built in those three years. They just had better things to do than watch a HS coach learn the college ropes on the job, while amassing the worst losing streak in school history. Win 6 games, go to a bowl... fans will follow. Fans are hungry for a winner, which is why donations are up, season ticket sales are up, etc. Nobody goes out of their way to support a loser.

Changes in MLB

I hate this move. Send the Brewers back to the AL. The Astros have been an NL team since '62 (and way beyond that if you count the fact that the Houston Buffs were a minor league farm team for the Cardinals). I think it sucks and I think Bud Selig sucks. As a fan, I'd rather they sent the Diamondbacks- a very young franchise- to the AL West and let the Astros move to the NL West so they can rekindle the rivalry with the Dodgers. Division games with the Rangers interests me very little, from an historical perspective. -
On the other hand, it could be said our fans show up for stuff that matters. If we go bowling, we'll travel as well or better than the majority of the sun belt.

I do too. That's the game I worry about most. But if they come out with the win, I think UH will beat USM and be BCS-bound. Which means Eagle1855 will be BCS-bound, too. A few years ago, UH was undefeated going into the last 4 games out of the season and lost 3 of them, if memory serves. This after beating Texas Tech and Miss State. I'm sure both Keenum and Sumlin are reminding the team of that! There are no gimmes.

I don't disagree with this sentiment at all. I just don't think that by virtue of being in D/FW we deserve equal media footing with teams that are actually accomplishing things. That's all I was saying (in a few more words). We aren't a story yet. I believe some day soon, we will be.

Because most of the time they are bad. In fact, when was the last time a Sun Belt team finished the season ranked? Or WAS ranked? We play in a conference that literally no one outside the schools that play in said conference care even a little bit about. And for 6+ years, we haven't even been competitive enough to have a shot at winning said conference. Why should anyone care about what we're doing? SMU has a winning record and is moving to a BCS conference. TCU just upset another top-5 team on the road. Again, why *should* anyone outside UNT care that we beat a really bad team on the road in Alabama? Move to a respected conference. Win games. Win a big game. Then the stories will write themselves.

SCOREBOARD, UT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1111

Unless Boise State loses (highly improbably) they end up in the Liberty Bowl. If Boise State loses and they win out, they're BCS-bound. That's a lot of $ riding on another school losing. But UH has plenty of work to do before any of this is a conversation, including a likely match-up w/ a ranked So Miss squad in the C-USA Championship game.

Baylor U Projects This Future On-Campus Stadium
Eagle1855 replied to PlummMeanGreen's topic in Mean Green Football
With respects to atmosphere, there's really nowhere in America like Kyle Field. And certainly nowhere in the Big 12. Maybe Autzen in Oregon. But I've never been there, so I can't personally attest to it. Aggies are weird, but they know how to chant and cheer. If we actually filled Apogee and had people standing and cheering, it would likely be one of the best non-BCS gameday atmospheres. We just need to get everyone to buy in to that vision. And as with everything, winning solves this. -

I think I'd take a different approach and say what an honor it is for UTSA to be mentioned with the rest of those schools. -
Surely you mean besides us having the first LEED-certified College Football stadium?

Is UTSA any closer to C-USA? "We've been told by
Eagle1855 replied to gangrene's topic in Mean Green Football
It's actually pretty solid marketing on the part of UTSA. Get people there, show them a good time, build value in the product. They'll leave with a good feeling and know what they're "buying" into as the program grows and hopefully later become season ticket holders. -

Yeah, 'cause that would have made sense. -

I read the entire Grand Jury indictment. It's truly sickening. If/once convicted, this piece of sh*t won't ever see the light of day, whether he's killed in prison or rots there. But I suspect the sick bastard "offs" himself before it ever goes to trial, which will almost seem unfair. And as for Paterno, he's long past his prime, anyways. If I was the PSU Board, I'd fire anyone and everyone with so much as a smudge in this scandal and move forward, swiftly. Take a stand. The University's motto is Virtue, Liberty, and Independence... show us all the first one of those actually means something. -
Yes.
