I'm inclined to agree (and have stated as much a couple different times on here). However, last night I had a dream that UNT won handily and I had to come on here and eat crow. So now I'm going the other direction.

The grumpy old-ish man in me hates the weird fonts on the road unis. Not sure why it's a completely different scheme than that of the home greens. Fan of the all green at home. Fan of the helmets. Fan of winning. So let's do that part next.

After they beat us in the opener, it will become much clearer. I don't know why everyone thinks SMU will be an easy out for us. They made ton of mistakes that lead to a ton of turnovers in that game against us. Remove half of them, it's an entirely different game. That team had quit on the coach. They'll be fired up for Morris. And ready to win after getting their teeth kicked in by Baylor.

Tennessee fans have had a rough go of it -- and have only themselves to blame. But I think the program has made the right hire, this time around. The recruiting should pay off this season. Doesn't hurt that they're in the East...

As far as match-ups against the name opponents we've had over the past few years go, Tennessee won't be as good as Georgia in 2013, but they'll be better than Texas in 2014. And they'll likely be better than Iowa in 2015. As has already been stated, inexperience won't matter as much that deep into the season. With a tough schedule, they'll be hungry for a win. For us, the ideal scenario is to have a game-changer at the QB position that has enough games under his belt to make it an interesting one...

Hesitant to post this, as I believe in the "praise in public, criticize in private" adage. But this kind of ranking (regardless of whether or not it's an arbitrary poll) simply can't happen at a school of 35k students located in the State of Texas. It's unacceptable. I think the part that's most difficult to stomach is, there doesn't seem to be any plan in place to be anything other than what we've always been. If there is, it isn't being communicated very well. A vision needs goals -- actual goals -- and it needs to be communicated. Saying you want to be competitive doesn't really mean anything. Saying you expect to win conference championships year in and year out -- and then accepting nothing less -- says everything. And it inspires support from fans. I believe TCU wants to win. A&M wants to win. UH wants to win. SMU, like it or not, wants to win. Do you think the causal fan outside Denton would say the same of UNT? Perception matters. Perception matters in the media and in the living room with recruits. Losing sucks. But it's a hell of a lot easier to stomach if you know there's a plan in place, if you have an idea where the ship is headed.

Yes, going on 100 years...

I have a hard time picking out many "sure" wins on the schedule. I also have the SMU game as a loss. Not sure why everyone's so optimistic about that game. They've got a new coach. It will be their second game of the season. We won't be near as fast as Baylor was the week before. And there's no reason to believe they'll turn the ball over 47 times in the game. I won't be surprised to see a 3-win season. But I also wouldn't be surprised if we won 7. I just don't know how to predict anything related to UNT sports, anymore.

He says it like a dick, but most of what he's said in this post is absolutely true.

I'd love to see an all-white road uniform with a white helmet/green center stripe, green logo. UT's "stormtrooper" road uniforms are still some of the best. Prefer Rice and A&M's home get-ups to most others not named UNT. Don't much care for Baylor and TCU's digs, but I'm not 20 years old and generally favor tradition and living in the past to new and shiny things.

I'd absolutely take UH's AAC schedule over our CUSA schedule (they're also playing seven home games, this season). So yes, I do think the AAC is an advantage. I also think Tom Herman is a significant advantage. They're poised for a big season. It's not really stepping out on a limb saying UH is the best G5 in the state. Now SMU? That's stepping out on a limb with a rope attached to it. But as with all things sports, time will tell.

​More than us going 4-100 (or whatever) against SMU? Rice makes the most sense. They don't get to play UH every year, anymore. UTSA should also be considered a rival. This new incarnation of CUSA is new -- and still somewhat fluid with UAB. I think once it all settles, those will be our chief rivals, year in, year out.

​Exactly. I don't understand all the sad faces. This is a good game and we'll get paid. Plus it's a great place to see a game and their fans, while somewhat delusional and ever-fantatical, are some of the nicest and most accommodating in college football. I'm in for a game at A&M. I'll be there in green.

Also, the best thing we can do to further our cause is to show up en masse on Sept 12th, park our trailers and broken-down pickups all over the Park Cities and take over their stadium for the day. They can deride the program and those who support it, but they'll have to do it over the 'North Texas' chants coming from a sea of green in their own backyard.

This is good banter. I like the rich/poor dynamic to these games. Makes for a fun rivalry. It doesn't mean it's accurate. My brother went to SMU. I went to UNT. Neither of us has any money.

Good place to be, as you get your wish more often than not.

I've got an extensive rooting hierarchy that goes like this: 1. UNT 2. Texas 3. UH/Rice 4. Any Texas school not named SMU. 5. Mississippi State 6. The Underdog 7. Anyone playing Notre Dame This effectively covers almost every match-up, allowing me to be somewhat invested in almost anything happening in college football. The level of emotional investment, however, declines exponentially the further down the list I go.

Tech doesn't want to play UNT. This shouldn't be interpreted as Tech being afraid to play UNT. Rather, they just see no value in it and indicated as much following our last two for one series with them in the late 90s/early2000s.

In the State of Texas it's just another name for whoever is the current head coach of UH.

Will do. I think that's the key to enjoying most cities. I grew up in a suburb. Hadn't any plans to move back to the Houston area after college (in truth, didn't have much of a plan). But it was a different world living in the actual city. Same goes for most other Texas cities. The urban centers of Dallas, FW, Austin, SA all offer great experiences -- which is why I generally don't get involved in whose city is better. Usually comes down to which one a person comes from, which specific experience they enjoyed. Also, summer is hot in Texas and traffic is terrible everywhere. And yes, I'm completely ignoring the topic at hand, on account of being totally bummed about the sweep. Fortunately, it's long season and it's a young team. And hope springs eternal in Houston, where there's always next year.
