It was refreshing to see the billboards up around town. Starting believe the University is actually concerned with grabbing more students than just the "oh well, guess I'll live at home" crowd from D/FW. Nothing wrong with that in and of itself, just lead to an empty campus on the weekends while I was in school. Houston is a great market for UNT. Comparable academics to UH and the best part? You don't have to go to UH. Because as college experiences go, UNT & Denton are light years ahead. Game day, too. If we're ever good, the Hill will dwarf anything I've ever seen at UH tailgates. Building up the UNT alumni base in Houston would help out tremendously. Especially getting the younger alums involved. Most of the events I've attended (with all due respect) have been a bit more... reserved. An quarterly alumni happy hour in a centrally-located bar (like I've seen Texas State, Ok State, UT, Tech, et al all do) would really be nice. Wouldn't worry about attendance to the UH game... we traveled well to play RICE and they were nobody. Nobody until they donkey-punched us, that is.

Yeah I don't want to live in a world where I'm forced to decide between watching Georgia/Vandy or MTSU/Ga State. HOW WOULD I MAKE SUCH A DECISION?

No more than they will incur in the Big East, where they'll play conference games from coast to coast. It's all insanity. Someone should have stepped in and worked all this out with the programs before allowing all this media market-driven madness to destroy rivalries and reason.

I think what happens is, a coach says something like "I'm not looking for anything, but I'm open to offers" and someone writes an article that states "x coach is interested in the y job" because x coach didn't say he wasn't interested in the y job. We can argue about which school has the better program (though I don't think it's much of an argument) and a million other things that are all subjective, but once LSU was in the picture, no one else had a chance.

They've added TCU and WVU, which are both better football programs than A&M, Colorado, and Mizzou. In my opinion, losing Nebraska was the biggest blow to the Big 12. The Big East is going to be fine. If anyone should be worried about the ACC taking teams from the Big East, it should be Conference USA. Because history shows that it's going to be our new conference home that gets raided.

In a short amount of time, UNT has a made great strides, which have drastically altered the face of the campus and, in my opinion, greatly improved the overall college experience. Since 1999- when I began- I think of the following: Gateway Center Built Mean Green Village built New Student Rec Center New Business Building Greek Row expanded/Sorority housing built New Dallas Campus & Law School (love it or hate it) Two NCAA Tourney Appearances Four Bowl Appearances New Stadium New Conference (twice) I'm sure there are other things I'm missing... but that's a lot in just 13 years.

I'll tell you how to do it... and it won't cost you a thing. Ready? Play teams people a) have heard of and b ) get some national attention. We just did that with this conference move. The most important thing, however, is to win. And to win often. That's it. The people will follow. Now let's win the Belt on the way out.

Ever been to a game there? It's a glorified HS stadium with a nice backdrop.

The other thing to remember is that there is enough Division 1 talent in Texas alone to elevate all (now) 12 Texas schools to Top 25 status, year in and year out. A ton of these recruits just end up in Kansas, Oklahoma, Missouri, Louisiana et al. So take care of business. There's plenty of Texas talent to go around; they just haven't always had a reason to stay.

Texas State fans are full of all kinds of delusions of grandeur. When I lived down near there, several regularly tried to tell me that San Marcos is actually a better music town than Denton, citing Blue October and the Randy Rogers Band as evidence.

I would do a promotion where the football team started winning football games, in turn generating excitement and buzz around the program. This promotion has proved effective in other programs, historically.
