Just when I think threads cant get any dumber...

Was watching the game live when it happened. Still makes me cringe. SMU is an average-at-best team... which is why they are easy to overlook. They just seem to have a couple random games each season they decide to "get up" for, and you never really know which one that will be. I went to the one at UH last year, however... and was glad to see UH put them away in the second half. I'll be rooting for the coogs in ever game except ours. ha

I actually AM looking for two tix to LSU for the opener, so if someone has them... I'd love to take em off you.

I'd guess @SMU and @ECU pose the toughest challenges to go undefeated in conference play for UH, but yeah; it's a pretty light schedule compared to ones in the past. Missing Southern Miss doesn't hurt. Please hang 100 points on Texas State.

Hope so. Some time on the practice squad can only help. Coaches have been impressed with him, but that kind of generic coach-speak is about all you get, this time of year. Hope it works out for Keenum as it did for Arian Foster. Hoping that for Dunbar, too. Lots of hope, these days.

That's cool. We'll drop TSU and Tech can come play at Apogee. We'd LOVE to have them.
-
Completely agree. And to that end, I'm not sure how well we fare.

This says a lot: I think this season it's very possible we see a worse win/loss total than that of last year. But I don't think that means we aren't making progress. Just always assumed it would be year three under McCarney that we'd see the most improvement. We were in a bad, bad place. But we've got plenty to be excited about and recruiting should only improve. Either way, I'll be traveling to Baton Rouge and Houston, and Denton as many times as the pocket book will allow!

2012 College Football Strength Of Schedule
Eagle1855 replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
Oh boo hoo. Also interesting: The Big XII has 8 of the top 15 toughest schedules. The SEC? 4. B1g and Pac 12 each only had 1. -
We have one of the easiest schedules in college football. Why is this even a conversation? Remove this year's LSU game and we likely drop to the bottom of SOS. And we still sit here and "hope" for a winning season. As soon as these "body bag" games get in the way of our undefeated seasons, I'll talk strategic scheduling. Otherwise, give me the CASH.

2012 College Football Strength Of Schedule
Eagle1855 replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
But...but...but we should make our opening games eaaaasier cause it's so haaaaaaard to be UNT. -
Or, we could just get better and make competitive games out of them. Arkansas State has done it... a couple times. Troy has done it. The schedule isn't the problem.

Right. I assume everyone that is "all in" on this fee hike is also donating at least the maximum amount students can pay, each year. Seems to me, if you had as many alums donating as much as the students put in, we'd be in really good shape. Which one do you think has more disposable income?
-
Yeah, but we have two college football stadiums. SO, booya.

This x100.

Texas AD Fine With Big 12 Not Expanding
Eagle1855 replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
If you can add FSU and Clemson, you add FSU and Clemson. It would absolutely increase the media deal. And that's all this whole thing is about. Someday we may look back on the years that we let TV ruin college football. Until then, it's a cash grabbing free-for-all. -
Exactly. They want higher-profile teams and I imagine they wouldn't mind laying down some roots in the SEC's recruiting territory in the process, which is why they'll go after Clemson and FSU, if anyone. Both have strong football, baseball, and basketball. It's a no-brainer, when compared to all other options. Whether or not those two programs want to leave is another story entirely. But there's a lot of upside. By that I mean cash-money. That stuff that started all of this. If they do grab those two, maybe it's time for the Big East and ACC to consolidate. In other words, ACC raids the Big East, killing the Big East, and the remaining spares (UH, SMU, SDSU, Boise, et al) go back to their respective conference homes. Then everyone has 12+ teams and the nonsense can stop. Maybe.
-
Winning is one thing that we can control. We can't control where we are located. We can't control what conference we were in in the past. We can't do anything to improve our standing in the college football world besides invest in our program (which we've done) and win (which we've not). I think you've misunderstood what I'm saying, as I don't think we're in disagreement with one another.
-
I was. Because in the end, this is all that matters.
-
Agreed.
-
Agreed. And further, who cares? In the last decade, no one has hurt UNT more than UNT. We need to handle our business, regardless of league. Then let the rest play itself out. That's what UH did. That's what Boise has done. TCU, too. The latter perhaps being the best example.
