Breaking news -- UNT lands QB Brock Berglund
Eagle1855 replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
This is why this excites me. I've always thought that if you get one or two really solid guys to buy-in, it makes it easier to bring in several more because you can sell the "be a part of something special" bit and have something to point to as proof. I don't know whether or not this guy is that piece, but it sounds good, and for that, my Mean Green pants are a little tighter today. -
QB Brock Berglund to North Texas: ITS OFFICIAL!

I heard Josh White posted the news first, but I had already unfollowed him -
Anyone know if the Ocean of Soul will be there?
Eagle1855 replied to island eagle's topic in Mean Green Football
Most people at a football game don't really care about that fact (myself included). As a musician, I respect the hell out of the Green Brigade. We have some of the greatest musicians in the world. No one would debate their musicianship. But we're not much for showmanship, and I think that's the point of the discussion. I'd rather watch a TSU or a GSU... or even the AGGIE band over most others, any day of the week. To your point, however, one of the reasons I say that is because it IS unique. If every band tried to emulate said style of performance, it would grow tiresome. I don't need the GB to do what TSU does. But I can definitely enjoy TSU for what they bring to the table! -
Still correcting people about NTSU v. UNT
Eagle1855 replied to gksmith's topic in Mean Green Football
In situations such as these, I like to ask myself http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eg8-dii9Ma0? "SAY 'NORTH TEXAS STATE' AGAIN. SAY 'NORTH TEXAS STATE' AGAIN, I DARE YOU. I DOUBLE DARE YOU, MF, SAY 'NORTH TEXAS STATE' ONE MORE GD TIME" -
Well I, for one, am glad he didn't die.

Houston is going to have a huge drop-off this year. They play La Tech this weekend, so they can count on being 0-2. And I've got us winning the Oct 6th showdown. So yeah, 6-6 is definitely within reach. And 7-5 would be fine.

THIS x 1000.

No. Say what you mean, mean what you say. Then move on. People can deal with it however they need to deal with it.
-
They definitely lost by more than 7. And SMU is going to go as far as GIIIIILBERT takes them which should get them to about 4-8.

This won't even be a contest. Seriously. After facing off against one of, if not THE fastest team in college football, it will be like playing against guys running in sand.

University of Houston's OC resigns after Texas State loss
Eagle1855 replied to NT03's topic in Mean Green Football
He officially "resigned", whatever that means. UH fans are completely delusional. I hear it every single day. I don't care a bit about Texas State, but I enjoyed this massive upset- a team most fans around here thought they'd beat by 60+. Knocks them all down a peg. I tihnk they thought they were going to replace a Heisman-caliber sixth-year QB, a couple great offensive players, a head coach, a solid OC, etc... and just keep on moving towards another BCS-busting season. Wrong. I do, however, respect the hell out of the move to fire encourage the resignation of the guy who wasn't getting the job done instead of hanging onto him for, oh, say 3 years or so to hope he learns the ropes. Shows a commitment to success. Or a knee-jerk reaction. I can't decide. I'm prone to paradox. -
To play a national power or not to play a national power
Eagle1855 replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
We should have the ability to win 8 games every year in this conference and in the next. Which doesn't mean we will win all of them every year, but we should be competitive enough to do so. So if you think of it that way, and you add in a couple other "peer" non-conference match-ups, who cares if we play a "Big-Time Program" or two each year? It's a good pay day and, like a couple other posters have noted, the players enjoy them. -
Good info. Which basically confirms what I previously thought: against ELITE BCS teams, we've never been able to get a running game going (I don't really consider KSU, Clemson, or Colorado "elite", but we've clearly had more success against them). Which we shouldn't feel bad about: most teams they play won't be able to establish any kind of consistent run game.

You know it's been a while since your program has won when you're bragging about whose loss was least-terrible.
-
Did one of those guys ever put up big numbers against LSU, Bama, UT, OU, et al? I mean, besides Colorado- which was a middling-at-best Big 12 program at the time- I don't think our guys ever put up big numbers against "big programs". I thought Jimmerson showed a good speed burst when he found a seam, which was nice, considering our O-line was massively out-matched. Hard to really know what we have at that position after just one game.

OMG so embarrassed rt now ppl! lol

Would LSU consider playing this game at North Texas?
Eagle1855 replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
The difference is, there aren't any common open dates without doing some significant shuffling with both team's schedules. -
LSU plagued by low morale and worries about funding
Eagle1855 replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Exactly. I've never heard anyone discuss the merit's of the education they received at LSU. Ever. All I ever hear is how great game-day is in Baton Rouge. Which is fine, but honestly, who cares? I love college football and everything surrounding it, but It's 6-7 Saturdays a year. -
Would LSU consider playing this game at North Texas?
Eagle1855 replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
For the record, I think we play the game in Baton Rouge on Saturday. BUT, in the event I am wrong (it's happened)... Houston would a great alternative, since Dallas is already booked (EDIT: Reliant Stadium is already booked, but how about an evening game at Rice Stadium? Holds 47k). That, or just pay us the insurance money and we'll just pretend none of this ever happened, get ready for the home opener next week. Either way, hoping for the best for all our brethren down on the Gulf Coast! -
Any UNT/LSU watching get togethers in Houston Saturday?
Eagle1855 replied to cjones's topic in Mean Green Football
Seconded. Should be easy to find the game, however, given the gross number of LSU fans and grads (there's a difference) in our fair city. -
North Texas Football-How Bad Do You Want It

Hidin' out. No big-timing, only working towards it. Haha I'll be around this year at the games! -

I absolutely love this speech. Seen it accompany a couple other videos (most notably an ECU player prepping for the combine, I think?), but this one obviously takes the cake. I'm ready to run through a brick wall. -
BCS is dead: Presidents approve college playoff
Eagle1855 replied to UNTeagle88's topic in Mean Green Football
Pretty much my fears with 4. My only hope is 4 turns to 8, sooner than later. Otherwise, they just effectively crushed the Boise/TCU-type dream. -
Do You Like the New Helmet Design?
Eagle1855 replied to MeanGreenGlory's topic in Mean Green Football
yeah, at big programs they celebrate the school's connections to NFL teams...
