  1. Which is what has happened at UH with Briles and Sumlin. This year, UH will at-best finish 5-7. I think that if we sustained the same level of relative success as UH over the past decade, we'd be able to drop 1-2 Mill per on a coach, too. Winning solves a lot of what ails us. But I operate mostly on emotion and feelings rather than facts and rational thought.
  2. Good. Maybe it's because I'm and old soul, but I love classic-looking uniforms. Texas, Bama, Penn State... I'll take those over Maryland, Oregon, and Ok State ANY day. So in the absence of broad-sweeping changes, I say keep the green, lose the stupid North Texas on the helmets and stick with it for the long haul. Also, these are really nice-looking uniforms your friend designed. I love the incorporation of our tertiary color, black.
  3. The only living unicorns until they sacrifice them during the inaugural game in the new stadium in an act of appeasement for the angry gods of football which will secure an undefeated record until the end of time and then, when ten decades of winning has come to pass, capacity will be increased to 20 million so that the entire greater Houston area (taking into account population increase) can attend the game (as mandated by the Czar of the Country of Houston) and they will watch on a screen ten times as wide and three times as tall as that found in the Dark Stadium of the North and all the world will bear witness to the glory that is the greatest football school in the history of the universe as we knew it (before we found other universes which is obviously a whole other story entirely). But they still won't have a Big XII invite.
  4. This. Houston has absolutely zero chance of being in the Big 12. Why? 1) It's a market that is already sufficiently covered. 2) They don't raise the academic nor the athletic profile. 3) Because UT said so. Also, I think the Big XII will be doing the poaching this time around. Louisville would obviously be a better catch than UH, but FSU would be a whopper. It would put the conference closer to equal footing with the SEC, from a competitive standpoint, top to bottom. That FOX TV deal is pretty sweet. Wouldn't say it's out of the realm of possibility.
  5. This past weekend, I was reminded how much I love Denton in the fall. Sunsets are unreal. And the rest of it is pretty great, too.
  6. Wow.
  7. Thanks for taking the time to post all this. Unrelated, I think that if you find your identity as a person in the performance of your city's sports franchises, you're the worst kind of loser.
  8. The guy hasn't even been here a year and a half and you're already questioning whether or not he should be our coach? This is unreal. I don't think most people on this board realize how bad our football program has been. We weren't great during the Dickey years, either. Don't believe me? Look at the non-conf record. Sure, we beat a bunch of bad Sunbelt programs and that was fun, but we did nothing with that momentum. When was the last time we beat a ranked opponent? We haven't even beaten another Texas FBS team since 2006. We are coming off the worst hire in school history in Todd Dodge. In spite of that, we managed to build a new stadium. A really nice one, at that. Things are going in the right direction, but it's going to take more than a year and a half to get it done. We lost. To a team that is a lot better than we are... right now. It sucks. We move on. Get out and support this team against ULL at home!
  9. There are a lot of North Texas alums that are 1) from the Houston area and 2) currently reside in the Houston area. So maybe all you DFW-lifers and Dallas-homers should consider that before insulting OUR city.
  10. If they don't buy them, I will.
  11. No disagreement here. Meant purely from a program perspective. Really like those two a lot better than I do ODU and FIU, but that's just a personal bias. As a fan, I'm looking forward to the extra cash-money, for sure.
  12. I think the outcome of this game is almost entirely up to how Derek Thompson controls the game and how well the defense tackles. Offenses like UH get big yards on short passes, which requires strong tackling. Can't give up those cheap big plays.
  13. Field position, I assume.
  14. But do you have a pedestrian bridge? Game over, bro.
  15. Nothing gets me harder for a football game than music school smack.
  16. Yes. If you forced me to choose, I'd rather have the win over Texas Southern than the loss to LSU.
  17. I had a vague comment about not caring if we barely lose to a BCS conference team because a loss is a loss, no matter how many back-rubs we give each other about it. I'd like to see a local FCS opponent on the schedule every year. And then I'd like to stop playing games against teams that won't give us a return game. I don't think winning at the FCS level is comparable to FBS anymore than I think Triple A baseball is the same as MLB. We are in the top division in college football, so yes, winning out means more to me than playing within 27 points of LSU on the road. And it always will.
  18. Just pack heat, you'll be fine.
  19. Or Avocado U and Guac State.
  20. I didn't know promiscuity was cool. Wish I would have known that when I was a frat boy. I also wish ULL or Ark State was going with us to CUSA in place of FIU.
  21. I'll be there with special lady friend and some family. I'm also playing an early show the evening before, so if you don't plan to go to the Mean Green tailgate and do want to swing by and say 'hello', message me for info, as I don't want to be a self-promoting jerk-wad.
  22. Except we're an FBS team. Going undefeated in FBS does in fact raise the profile of your program. We've seen it happen more than once.
  23. Absolutely agree. But let's say hypothetically we played UTSA's non-conference schedule and come out of the UH game with a win. We head back to Denton with a 6-0 record for an ESPN game against ULL. How many people do you think we have in the stands to see an UNDEFEATED UNT team for a nationally-televised game? A lot, I'd guess. Because undefeated is always more fun than a couple of good losses. I'm starting to agree with the camp that sees big losses against National Title Contenders as momentum killers, not measuring sticks.
