  1. Smaller towns in the SEC completely shutdown on game day, regularly moving 80-100k fans in and out of there on a given weekend. Yet despite not even knowing how to read, they have figured out how to make it work.
  2. For what it's worth, the one in San Marcos looks quite nice in person -- even with the tired Hill Country-themed architecture.
  3. Good. We don't need overrated former UT coaches on this staff. Let programs like Stanford deal with him. We are North Texas.
  4. Yeah, our efforts in Austin have been depressing-at-best for better than a decade. There's almost nothing worth remembering fondly about any of our "big" games over that time period, aside from the good times surrounding the actual game. Georgia. Alabama. LSU. Oklahoma. Texas. Arkansas... No thanks. And I was in attendance for many of them. Sure, there were a couple exceptions where we played "better than expected", but I'd venture to guess most fan-bases don't consider +21-point losses remarkable in any way, shape, or form. --- If people still can't figure out why we'd be the least of UT fan's worries after looking at their schedule -- or why we "can't get no respect" -- it's because we have a habit of not winning games like this, ever.
  5. The OL is a bright spot, no question. I'd argue DT's greatest value was as a leader, so I do think that's an issue. Though on paper we likely have more "gifted" QB's on the roster right now. Be interesting to see who emerges as the "guy." Also, if we manage just one TD, we'll tie our best effort in the past 3. We've literally scored 7 points in the last three games in Austin. That stat is mind-boggling.
  6. Also, our offense didn't do much of anything against Georgia, scoring just 7 of our 21 points with 238 yards passing and SEVEN yards rushing -- which was a fairly common theme for each of our losses in 2013. What reason is there to believe the offense will be better in the early part of 2014, after losing Chancellor and a senior QB?
  7. All of this. Special teams has to have a big day for us. During the last 2 tail-whippings we've endured at UT, they completely crushed us with average starting field position, which made it easy for the game to get out of hand with a quickness. Three and out. Punt. Big return. Repeat. I don't doubt we've played better UT teams -- in fact, I'd say this will be one of the weaker of the last four -- but their defense is still strong (not a pun) and we absolutely have as large a question mark at QB as they, if not more. It seems like each of our respective strengths and weaknesses are the same.
  8. I don't know why they would be worried about us; the closest we've played them in over a decade was a 27-point loss in which we never scored. Our defense and special teams will have play at the top of their game to keep us in this contest. I think it's possible. Especially if we get some turnovers. We're playing with the house money on this one, as no one expects us to win. Every other aspect of this game will be in their favor.
  9. I don't think he had much to work with then he arrived... but I could be mistaken.
  10. This. Plus it was a lot of fun for fans. People were posting about it on social media. Once we #Hit6, it became #Hit7, Hit#8, and so on. We found something that engages the fanbase. I don't see the problem.
  11. I think that you'll find if you type TSU into a search engine you'll have to go a pretty long ways before you get to Texas State or Tarleton.
  12. TSU is Texas Southern. Is and has been for a very long time. Makes these threads all kinds of confusing.
  13. Is it weird if I feel like this post has the potential to save this thread?
  14. This is the kind of post the AD should be most worried about.
  15. If we're offering non sequiturs, I'd like to point out what's going on down in the Park Cities...
  16. And they used to have an all-you-can-eat Chicken Fried Steak night.
  17. The most positive thing about our "reloading" year is that CUSA 2.0 isn't really much stronger than the Sun Belt -- if even -- and for that reason, we should be winning 6 games every year with good coaching and decent recruiting alone. Further, our conference home/away schedule sets up really, really nicely. We play La Tech, UAB, Southern Miss, Rice, FAU, UTEP, FIU, and UTSA. While that's certainly a more attractive schedule from a brand perspective, is it really anymore difficult than Ark State, ULL, ULM, Troy, USA, Texas State, et al?
  18. I mean, I hope it is. But what reason is there to *expect* it to be? I don't mean this to be taken as snarky. I'm serious, why would we expect a W? They played pretty well down the stretch against Cincy and UCF and return 14 starters. They'll be breaking in a new QB... but so will we. In terms of toughness, I'd put this game around #3 on our schedule, behind @Texas and @ Indiana -- a team that returns almost all of their starters.
  19. This was actually a pretty funny bit of smack talk.
  20. I think they'll roll through the conference. Sorry, I forgot their QB graduated. Let me change that to say "I think they'll be one of the three best teams in the conference."
  21. take all of my monies. i want one.
  22. Hey thanks! You guys are awesome. Really appreciate the shout-out and well-wishes! Go Mean Green!
  23. Thought the very same thing. In fact, upon reading this article, my twice-grad Longhorn-loving significant other remarked "That sounds a lot like all the things we love about your coach" in reference to North Texas and Dan McCarney. Indeed it does, Fraulein. Indeed it does.
  24. http://www.al.com/sports/index.ssf/2011/11/ua_board_of_trustees_stop_uab.html Not sure there's a harder place to be a fan than UAB...
