  1. Same thought. Think I'll have to pull out the ↓ w/ SMU shirt I had made several years ago.
  2. The very first sentence: "Guy is a season ticket holder whole nine yards, grad -- huge UT fan. "
  3. I didn't say that either. I assume there's more to it than magic. But what do I know?
  4. I didn't say that. But it's worth looking at our winning percentage over that time period: We won an average of just over 3 games a year (3.16), from 1996-2000. We won an average of just under 3 games a year (2.75), from 2005-2012. That's 14 years of winning ~3 games per year. That's not very good. And it's not like we were playing in the Big 12 (or even C-USA). So blame it on whatever you want, but I think some of it has to be attributed to recruiting. As for our "dominance" of the Sunbelt Conference from 2001-2004 (the time period that holds some of my favorite memories of NT football), how did that translate to out of conference play? How many marquee out of conference wins did we manage over that time? How many D-1 Texas teams did we beat out for talent? Or even on the field of play? We still only averaged about 7 wins a year in that four-year time period and managed just a single bowl win. Patrick Cobbs was a fine player, but he was also undersized, slower than many other RB's that came out. Same for Booger, Thomas, et al. Seems to me, when it comes to the NFL, size -- measurables -- matter more than any other time in a player's career, right or wrong. And that isn't applied only to the "small schools." I figure if Manziel was the same size as Blake Bortles (6'4", 230), he'd have gone #1 overall. All this said, I am surprised Chancellor wasn't picked up in the 7th round.
  5. Doesn't the number of players drafted provide a snapshot of a program's recruiting success and failure some 3-4 years ago rather than the state of a program at present? Sure, Texas didn't have any players drafted, but their head coach had 3 taken in the first round, so if I'm a UT alum, I'm optimistic about the present and the future - and I'm moving on from the past. Similarly, as a UNT alum, I'll be more disappointed if we don't see some guys go in next year's and that of 2016, than I am regarding this year's draft. Our momentum is upward, we are moving forward. That projects positively for the future, which will be reflected in the level of talent across the board, as well as subsequent NFL drafts.
  6. How many of you would buy Mean Green cologne?
  7. I read through this thread thinking surely someone would mention Benito's. And surely you did. Their chile relleno is hangover-be-gone goodness.
  8. Which shouldn't come as a surprise. They're essentially cut from the same cloth.
  9. Hate them? Why, because they are likely getting paid to host a new head coach of a sort-of-well-known university as part of a 12-city tour over 30 days to meet with said U's alumni? Hell, I'd love to see our coach, President, or AD just make it down to Houston for anything outside an already-scheduled game.
  10. Agreed, and those are all good points.
  11. I had the same thought while watching the first half of it. I hope Swoopes ends up being the QB. He's clearly a talent, but he's inexperienced and doesn't seem to make very good decisions which is a plus for an opportunistic defense. Another impression I had from watching said game as that UT's O-line doesn't look as daunting as it has in years past.
  12. I'd be more encouraged by UT's lackluster Spring Game if we didn't ourselves have many of the same glaring weaknesses and question marks. If this was last year's Mean Green squad rolling into Austin relatively intact, I'd be a lot more optimistic about leaving with a W. But it isn't. And the fact is, it's going to be a tough atmosphere for us to "work out kinks." But this is why we play the game and why I'll be there hoping, wishing, etc.
  13. Louisville used a pro-style offense, so I imagine you'll see more of that at Texas.
  14. Would I? Hell yes. Could I? There's a large chasm between the things I wish I could do and the things my wallet will actually allow me to do.
  15. The only people in Houston who knew anything about UNT 15 years ago were musicians. It's amazing to see how far the University has come in such a relatively short amount of time. I mean, we've got BILLBOARDS and EVERYTHING now. This is a great article and a positive look for UNT. No need to pick it apart. It also implies that there once was big time football at UNT. Which is fun to remember.
  16. I think there are different ways to yell/coach a player. Some coaches do it in a productive way that makes the player want to be better (Saban) while others merely demoralize the team. Could be a factor. Or not. Either way, I hope this is a better fit for these guys.
  17. They just did what Georgia does. Every season it's "this is a National Title contender" and every season it's a laundry list of excuses after another disappointing finish.
  18. Surprising, but at the same time, makes sense it would be team who got manhandled by a better defense in the Super Bowl.
  19. He's gonna have a hard time finding a contender who wants to PAY what he's hoping to get paid. All the bad contract decisions Jerry made leading up to this are what made this a necessary (and therefore "good?") decision.
  20. I agree with you. It's been said for a long, long time. Dr. Pohl was very vocal about the important role athletics plays in academia.
  21. Whoa whoa whoa, let's not bring academics into this. This is college football we're talking about.
