  1. This. That's my chief issue and why I felt it was embarrassing for UNT. There are many situations where it's good to be included with the rest of the pack. And not always good to go it alone, even if it's a special or exclusive distinction (see: Longhorn vs SEC Network).
  2. I thought about this and initially thought that was a possibility. In truth, I really tried to rationalize a reason why we'd be left out, in hopes maybe we were just being sensitive little mean green fans (as we are, on occasion). Went the Big XII route (then noticed OSU's absence and SMU's inclusion). Thought about the P5 (HA) angle, but again, OSU was omitted. I also considered that Denton has its own paper and beat reporter covering the team. But then, so does Norman, Austin, Fort Worth, Waco, etc. And then I decided, nah... it's just sh!tty. Like, how much more work could it have been to provide a comprehensive list that included THE largest University in the Metromess?
  3. Scrolled through the entire college sports "headlines" section and didn't find a single write-up on UNT. That's just strange. I've always thought/known the DMN to be better rag, overall, than the Houston Chronicle (which isn't saying much) but to the Chron's credit, their sports section not only covers the UT/A&M/RICE/UH stuff, but also lends space to HBU, Lamar, SHSU and SFA. This is embarrassing. For us and for the DMN.
  4. Stuff is solid. Enjoyed their Blood & Honey poolside, last weekend. Interesting beer. Also, on the other end of the spectrum, really enjoyed Lakewood's "Temptress". Outstanding milk stout. Stout, too, at 9% ABV.
  5. If I wasn't an NT alum and fan, I would put UTSA at the top of my list... and I'd do it without thinking twice. My reason? UNT has to go on the road against the other two "favored" Texas programs in the West. Likely needs to win on the road at one (or both) to win the conference... which could be a tall order. Additionally, UTSA has consistency and experience at the key positions. But I'm an NT alum and fan. So F 'em. We'll win it all.
  6. Well I certainly hope not. It wasn't that good at scoring points last season and was probably the main reason we didn't win the conference. As the QB position goes, so goes our chances at another good, strong showing in CUSA in 2014. So to answer the question, I'll say "I don't know." Because there are so many unknown variables related to QB and WR play, it's hard to say. There's cause for optimism with the O-line and at RB, but Texas probably isn't going to be a very good gauge of what we have, early on. By the time conference play rolls around, we'll have a really good idea of what kind of team we'll be... and the identity of this team in 2015 (which I think has the potential to be another big season for us).
  7. I assure, I, as well as every other Mean Green faithful in Austin on the 30th, will share this very same sentiment when the game begins.
  8. Also the day that about 2 hours before kick-off RV told me he thought a lot of Longhorn fans would be surprised today. If they were, it was only because of quickly the game was over once it began. Seems like they got the ball in mid-field just about every possession, while our guys were well inside our own 20, most of the game. Hard to play competitively under those circumstances. Was just a good old-fashioned ass-kicking all around.
  9. Why? Honestly, we couldn't run against anyone last season and now we've got a huge question mark at the quarterback position, so teams haven't any reason to do anything but key-in on the run game. What makes you think it's going to be better the very first game of the season, on the road, against a team that's decidedly deeper -- and better at the run -- than our squad? No one's saying we're not going to Austin to win -- many of us are going in hopes of seeing a win, and spending a good bit of money to do so -- but some of us aren't going under the delusion that we're an "even" match for Texas, and that the only way we lose if the refs hand it to the 'horns.
  10. Might be the hottest game I've ever attended. Which sounds dramatic. But it was really, really hot.
  11. That's basically what I anticipate. Anything more lopsided would be a disappointment.
  12. This. Michigan. USC. Texas. Alabama. Leave 'em be.
  13. Is this where we say "Book 'em Mean Green?" Or, nah?
  14. I agree... but since when does that matter in conference realignment? It's all about markets. I'm not trying to be contentious, but every single realignment move has been a strategic play by a given conference to secure a new market. In this sense, ULL brings nothing to the AAC. And never will. Just as we will never be invited to the AAC. Even if we eclipse SMU in every single measurable for a decade.
  15. Why? They really don't bring anything to the table that isn't already satisfied by Tulane (and Houston). And they offer absolutely nothing in the way of prestige, in any capacity. Tulane will look at their addition the same way SMU views us.
  16. Charlotte and ODU represent significantly larger TV markets than Lafayette (#24 and #43 respectively, vs #123). Which may not matter as much for Big State U (which generally already benefit from significant interest in multiple surrounding larger markets), but it is a consideration for lesser-known/followed programs (like us). College football has gone ape-sh!t for TV money, so the moves make sense even with ECU's defection. But I'm with everyone else: If it was just about the quality of program, the support of the fanbase, and the game-day atmosphere -- I'm taking ULL over every new addition to C-USA that isn't us.
  17. Same thoughts. Aside from the snark (which I'm guessing is part of his "voice", better or worse), he's not egregiously wrong on any of it. Who cares anyways? Games are won on the field, not on the internet.
  18. BYU wouldn't be a bad addition to the Big XII... at all. At some point, someone in the Big XII is going to notice the Houston market is steadily slip-sliding into SEC country, thanks to A&M's secession and LSU's ever-present encroachment... and UH is going to hit the conference realignment jackpot.
  19. Could this mean we'll finally see an interlocking NT on the helmet?
  20. Yikes. I asked the woman if she'd consider wearing it. She laughed. Then said something to the effect of "absolutely not, idiot."
  21. Crass, but absolutely fantastic.
  22. I was here for that. You beat me to it. Well done.
