It was a pretty boring game, I somehow managed to watch the whole thing (I guess not having football for eight months does that to you) but the ending was incredible. That defensive back was responsible for 12 of their 16 points.. 2 int's for touchdowns in 1 game. While watching the game, and thinking back to all the close games last week I wondered, are these just slow starts for BCS teams this season, or is the gap betweeen the haves and have nots narrowing? I personally think it is the latter due to scholarship restrictions and the increasing number of talented kids out there... parity is somthing I am looking forward to.

I keep seeing a lot about the Alabama game. What was the final score of that game? Thanks.

Thats funny right there, I dont care who you are... underrated post of the day nominee Of course, Im partial to a little sarcasm

OOPs. you have some problems with your logic. Jamario Thomas put up 247 yards on 32 (7.7)carries against colorado in boulder. Oklahoma also played colorado with a far superior offensive line on a neutral site and Adrian Peterson put up 172 on 28 tries (6.14)... so am I to assume that in our game with a mutual opponent, NT had the better runinng back? nice try, but anyone who knows anything about college football wouldnt say we have the better back...unfortunately, there are more factors than just yardage gained to take into account, like passing attempts, the score, etc

Man, I cant say I will miss the guy. For me, hearing Trev's "zingers" and "analysis" was painful... much like nails on a chalkboard playing over a thousand crying babies in 115 degree heat with 100% humidity on a crowded school bus...

Just be impressed they are now reading and writing up there

I think we should open the game with 3 straight
Eagle1855 replied to calvin's topic in Mean Green Football
what, nobody wants to run it straight up the middle 3 times? Come on, its NT football! -
I think the whole big 12, outside of A&M, Texas and maybe Texas tech will be a pretty big disappointment. (and A&M and Texas both have ample time to join the rest) KSU 38 FIU 21 ISU - 32 Illinois State - 21 Nebraska- 25 Maine- 7 OSU- 15 Montana St- 10 KU - 30 FAU - 19 These dont exactly inspire fear in the hearts of other Div 1A opponents. NT needs to get past MTSU--- this game is my biggest fear. If we get past MTSU, I have no doubt we can run through Tulsa, play close games with KSU and La Tech and win the belt... again. And go to wherever the new bowl game will be and play a strong UH team. I could see us 9-1. Then again, I could see us 5-4 as well.

exactly my thoughts... but if we do, watch out!

all the teams in texas except baylor... haha good to see the big 12 empire starting to fall... here's to seeing some more games like this!

U. Houston drew 19,981 vs. Oregon Thurs on ESPN-2

They gave ALL refugees who wanted to go free admission -
Will the NO Bowl be played?
Eagle1855 replied to WeatherfordMeanGreen's topic in Mean Green Football
and you get 5 points from me for the using proper spelling of "lose"! -
They are giving people with Alabam, Mississippi, and Louisiana drivers liscenses free admission to the UH game tonight. They are also doing this on a first come first serve basis for the astros and texans games. I was going to go to the UH game tonight (dads a UH alumn here), but Im going to pass now. Logistically, with all the traffic, people, etc, seems like more trouble than its worth. And I have to agree with you H-towngreen, that is a fear of mine... houston has come a long way with their down town... this could create a set back if our local government doesnt plan this out well! Anyone that saw the news and saw the way some of the people that have been bussed over are acting knows what I mean. I understand the frustration, but the aid hasnt been recieved as graciously as one may expect... more of a "right" and that they are demanding people do more. Im going to help out in every way I can. Its is however disheartening to see the ungrateful of the victims flashed on the news (of course this, like many things in the media could be a result of "spin"). Houstonians are doing alot to try to help out. Its really been cool to see the way the city has opened their arms. Im just wary of what happens next!

Does NT Not Having A Game This Saturday Help Us,
Eagle1855 replied to PlummMeanGreen's topic in Mean Green Football
It definately represents the first time we could start a season with a winning record in i-dont-know-how-long, so that alone should get these guys fired up! -
Heard on the radio this morning in Houston that Mississippi police were announcing it was "open season" on all looters... I love that kind of attitude!

What are our options if LSU game is cancelled
Eagle1855 replied to Eagle-96's topic in Mean Green Football
I dont see how we could possibly schedule another game BEFORE the MTSU game--- that would be planning a game in 5 days. I think the LSU game will be cancelled. Right now they are probably just trying to figure out what they are going to do after they announce that... whether we will try to reschedule or cancel it all together. We both lose alot, IMO (from a football perspective) if this doesnt work out because our first game will be against MTSU for the likely sunbelt title, and LSU has a visit from ASU, who will be pretty good. And yes, I realize the inhabitants of new orleans, LA, MS, and AL have lost alot more, and that in times like this football takes a back seat... not being insensitive, just talking football here -
well said, Baby Arm (thats a strange sentence)

Forget the weather, here's a real forecast for LSU
Eagle1855 replied to MootPoint's topic in Mean Green Football
I think it might be an indicator, but wasnt Gundy (the new coach at OSU) the one who handled the offense and the play calls? -
I love how they just blanket all the "directional" Michigan teams TT should be ashamed of their non conference schedule.. the sorriest part is that Leach will probably let them run up 70+ on each team. Anyone remember the flea-flicker they called in the Houston Bowl 2003 when they were already up a bunch? Classy. I hope SHSU makes a game of it. There are a few WAC schools on that list (or almost on that list) as well (granted most are schools that left the sun belt. Poor us

Playing cupcakes isnt that big of a deal. Anyone see what A&M did last year? they won a ton of games before conference play beating patsies at home (Univ of Ottowa, NC A&T, Trinity, UT-PB, Chicago St, etc) and it built up alot of momentum going into Big 12 play. the players (and fans) felt like they could win, and it translated into a pretty impressive Big 12 run (especially given their record the year before(2003-04), which boasted an impressive 0-16 run in conference play) I'm excited to see Houston and A&M on the schedule, might have to go check out the Houston one for sure, dont know about going to Collie Station though... *sorry, posted this without reading all the posts and someone already posted something similar... either way, the logic stands

Top 10? ha, I think the last 4 years it has been more like top 5.

Harris poll suffers embarrassing Rash Son-in-law of Troy football coach quits after identity discovered. By Randy Riggs AMERICAN-STATESMAN STAFF Thursday, August 25, 2005 The newest component in the Bowl Championship Series rankings had to deal with a Rash on Wednesday. That would be Jason Rash. He's the president of a masonry company in Atlanta who for about 48 hours was one of the 114 voters in the Harris Interactive Poll that will count a third of the 2005 BCS formula. Rash's qualifications? He's the son-in-law of Troy football Coach Larry Blakeney, who nominated him for the poll. "I might be wrong to do what I did," Blakeney told CBS SportsLine.com. "(But) I did it because I knew he'd be credible and accountable." Although it had nothing to do with Harris' random selection of voters nominated by the 11 conferences and Notre Dame, the BCS's credibility took a hit Wednesday when Rash was one of four voters who will not serve. Rash quit. "Obviously, it was causing more of a stir than it was worth," he told SportsLine.com. Also, ESPN informed both the BCS and Harris that former coaches Lou Holtz and Gerry DiNardo will be prohibited from voting, as will former Pittsburgh quarterback John Congemi, because they all do college football announcing for the cable network, which prohibits its on-air personalities from voting in the BCS-affiliated polls. "Like in any process, there's a learning curve," BCS spokesman Bob Burda said Wednesday night. "This just reaffirms that due diligence should be done in putting forth nominees to participate." Burda said the four vacancies will be filled randomly by Harris from a list of nominees supplied by the leagues that submitted the names. Rash was nominated through the Sun Belt Conference. Burda said he believes Congemi's name was submitted by the Big East since he played at league school Pittsburgh and does color announcing on Big East games for ESPN regional outlets. Burda was uncertain which conferences nominated Holtz and DiNardo. The Harris Poll also came under fire Wednesday from women sportswriters since none were picked for any of the 23 media slots among the 114-member electorate. By comparison, the Associated Press has three women among the 67 voters in its football poll. The AP told the BCS after last season that it would no longer be part of its ranking formula. The lack of women in the Harris Poll "is totally unacceptable," Joanne Gerstner, president of the Association for Women in Sports Media, told the Boston Globe. "I'm not happy," added Gerstner, who works for the Detroit News. "The same result keeps happening with different processes. Maybe the process is flawed. This is not the good old days." And Wednesday didn't qualify as a good day for the BCS. Burda, though, didn't believe the Harris Poll's selection procedure was an indirect black eye — or even a Rash — for the BCS. "I think the fact that the situation was addressed and ultimately corrected will prove to be beneficial in the long run," he said.

check out that race for the #106 spot! Who's it gonna be? Ark State? Central Michigan? Wyoming? Who will claim the coveted spot this year? Im on the edge of my seat! For a 4 time conference championship team I'd say thats a sorry attendance score. Especially since our students dont even HAVE to pay! However doesnt some of the blame for the dismal numbers fall on shoulders of the university in failing to market their product in an EFFECTIVE manner? Or for them not being able to get any teams that anyone cares about here during the preseason (or as other schools call them "non conf games")?
