Supporting the Longhorns and other $ schools

My post was not in response SOLELY to what you wrote. I originally posted it as its own topic, but it has been moved into this topic. Some of it applies to what you said, some applies to stuff I read in other threads, which is why I wrote it as its own topic -
Supporting the Longhorns and other $ schools
Eagle1855 replied to FirefightnRick's topic in Mean Green Football
We are not Texas. Texas gets more money than we do. Texas has a better Athletic Department than we do. Some people that didnt go to Texas root for the team because it is the STATE SCHOOL. It is called "The University of Texas" Texas isnt the reason we only had X people in the stands for X game. Texas isnt the reason there was no pride to speak of on the NT campus for decades. Texas doesnt care about NT. There are at least 10 Div1A programs in Texas in BETTER CONFERECES than NT. This is why we will always be viewed as small time. Its our obssessive p---- envy voiced on this board over the haves vs have nots, etc. Im so tired of people flaming people for being fans of other programs. So what if a guy loves NT and also roots for OU or UT or A&M in their conference games. Who cares? If they come to the games, support the teams, what does it matter? I would take as many fans as we can get. We are not in a position to say "we dont need X type of fan". Laughable. You want people to buy NT stuff? Get it into a damned store where we can buy it. I cant find a single decent looking current NT article of clothing/merchandise in the entire Houston area. You want us to make the money? Get people to put our products on the shelves. We need to worry about whats going on in our own back yard. We have plenty to take care of before we worry about what UT is doing. We have plenty of positive things going on here. We have our own facilities being built. Plumm can list everything for ya if you dont know already, i am tired of typing! Quit being so negative, we are in a good position right now to make strides in the future, considering our past. I feel no need to defend my pride in NT, so try not to take a bunch of cheap shots telling me Im not a "real fan"... that accomplishes nothing. Rant completed, I feel better, thanks for reading. GMG *Texas can be susbtituted with OU, FSU, Michigan, etc... logic applies the same. Originally posted as its own topic so all the opinions expressed are not necessarily in response to this thread, rather a bunch of threads I read thru -
BBA Economics 2003 Minor, Spanish various roles with current company which is a medical billing and consulting firm in Houston

Ding ding... Baylor is better. Baylor will still get slaughtered when the play UT/OU/TT/etc... It doesnt matter what color their uniforms are, if it aint a non-revenue sport, you can bet they will suck.

TSU new possible in-state rivalry game
Eagle1855 replied to Mean'n'Green07's topic in Mean Green Football
We look down on their academics. Not athletics. I think thats what iP meant, however I fail to see a correlation between the quality of academics in relation to strength of athletic programs. Great facilities does not make your degree any less spare No reason for us to be associated with SWT/TSU or whatever who plays in Div1AA... -
no way! But Idaho got 5 Harris poll votes!
-
Most likely... Anyone know how many we signed from the Houston area?

TSU new possible in-state rivalry game
Eagle1855 replied to Mean'n'Green07's topic in Mean Green Football
Im sorry, did you catch the A&M TxState game? Someone tell me where the nice little win would come from. No gimme games from what I watched We have nothing to gain by playing a Div 1AA team like that and much MUCH more to lose. Unless they move to the Sun Belt, no thanks. -
How can you people talk about throwing tortillas when there are millions of children in the world that go sleep hungry each night FOR SHAME! [/sarcasm]

TSU new possible in-state rivalry game
Eagle1855 replied to Mean'n'Green07's topic in Mean Green Football
SMU-TCU/Baylor Texas-Oklahoma/Texas A&M Houston-Rice Texas A&M-Texas Tech (this has developed into a huge rivalry.. .they are going to start playing one another in the new stadium in arlington a la Red River Shootout) I think its fine IF Texas State becomes D1A and joins the belt, in that case it would probably occur naturally... but I dont know that I want to be associated with TSU. I would prefer a school like Houston, as we are on similar playing fields ACADEMICALLY, of similar size, etc... -
Well A&M doesnt look too hot themselves, save a beating of SMU, so I would put Tech as the #2 team on that list. I think they can (and will) beat anyone on that list except Texas. And they get A&M in lubbock where they are hard to beat (especially if you are A&M).
-
I would put NT at 10. SMU at least beat TCU. We have no business being anywhere else

LSU is not alone, Ohio State fans threw beer bottles at the Texas fans who visited after Texas won... it was so bad the Ohio State president issued an apology to all Texas fans who had visited columbus...I dont think that is a first for them Im still gonna go to the LSU game tho. Maybe I will bring a video camera and document my pre-game and post-game experiences. We have some pretty classy fans at NT, and I am proud of that. In fact, Texas as a whole is a pretty classy place to watch any college football game
-
You know, there are alot of good points in this quote. I agree, I think it will be a better game than we have seen. Plus, who the hell knows how good our defense is? We have one of the lowest-ranked offenses in the country

Lots of large company crowds coming to Troy game.
Eagle1855 replied to stebo's topic in Mean Green Football
Its fair to say it I will be unable to attend this game as I generally dont leave the office (in Houston) until after 5:30... needless to say a 6:30 game 5 hours away is a stretch Any watching parties scheduled in the Houston area? -
Ha, how random, I actually went to this private school in Houston for most of my elementary schooling... my sister started as a guard on their basketball team a few years back... its a small school in Cypress Texas. Im suprised at how many top 100 players UTA picked up... Id really like to see us start to have more success in bball, and I dont understand why we cant recuit at LEAST on the same level as UTA
-
yeah, i was somewhat suprised myself... I think if we had lost to MTSU, we would def be on there. The fact that we lost to 2 pretty good teams (dotn care what anyone says, Tulsa is a good team) probably has something to do with it. However having the worst offense in the country doesnt really inspire much support after everyone hyped the hell out of our backs... which is somewhat embarassing now.
-
I said this to a longhorn fan as I watched them beat OSU at the Fox Sports Bar in Houston, (somewhat along the lines of what Rick said, I see)... Its easy to root for UT. Its easy to root for the top 10 team, for the elite programs-- the let downs are few and the wins are expected. Hell, its fun to be a winner. But to play the underdog and pull the big upset and witness it first hand, now thats one of the best feelings in the world of college sports. To come from div 1AA and dominate ANY conference in 1A the way we have is special. Losing sucks however, and I would rather not do it. Its time to take this thing to the next level. Im not ready to give in just yet. That upset may come along any day now and turn this ship further up the river towards where we want to be. Lets see what the next few games have in store... all the DD bashing without any call for any solution is mind numbing!
-
Exactly. This is the reason why it wont happen. This is the reason we can lay all of this calling for Dickey's head on a silver platter business to rest... quite simply, it aint gonna happen. It look RIDICULOUS there are huge differences in programs like Nebraska and Florida when compared to NT, people. First of all, those programs have a tradition of winning at the HIGHEST LEVEL! Secondly, they have a ridiculously large fan base. I dont think its fair to compare them to our current situation. If you want to compare programs, take a look at South Florida. Thats the one that ought to have us scratching our heads.
-
Well their secondary looked soft in the second half. We cant throw. Their D-line looks killer. We cant run. So no, I dont think we could capitalize on it, and no, I dont think we have a legitimate consideration for even being in that game for more than a quarter. Maybe not even that... just analyzing the strengths/weaknesses of a future opponent Just trying to steer away from the inevitable dog-piling on NT and how much we suck, etc,etc...
-
yes, yes, I know...see above post
-
as soon as i type that, I am doomed to eat my words. What a tale of two halves... LSU's over-agressive defense and soft secondary got eaten alive by the short passing game. The good news is, LSU is not invinceable. That bad news is, I fear we cant capitalize on their weakness. That was a great game tho!
-
yeah, and it aint even that close... you think our offensive line is having problems now? the way LSU's defense is playing, they will be spending as much time in the backfield taking hand offs as our running backs
