Si article.. thought it was interesting that all 8 of the ACC teams were above the standard (925) while all 5 of the Pac10 were below. anyone know how we scored? Bowl Teams Fall Short
-
well I suppose selfishly this sucks... I was looking forward to going to this game here in Houston! Thats a great deal for UH though, their fans can go catch thier bowl game and a basketball game in one day. Hopefully we can get a big crowd to the Pit! This should be a tough game for us, but it is a series I hope we continue. Plus it would be huge to knock off a C-USA opponent.
-
of course they are probably rolling in them this year... can I get a rimshot?
-
Well they dont plan the game around who is going to be there (or the year of), so Oklahoma or Nebraska would hardly be more neutral sites than Houston if either of those teams were in it. They plan these things years in advance. Colorado is known as the worst traveling team in the Big 12.
-
I think Troy's Larry Blakeney's is the most off the wall... Oregon at #6 Ohio State #9 then TCU @ #7 And he's the only guy that voted for Nebraska or Toledo and one of 3 to vote for Nevada.
-
Oh so you dont figure there will be a huge rush to grab ATM/NT tix? thanks for the info! May try to make it up there
-
are there tix still available? I live in Houston, so I would have to get them in College Station
-
I also saw a guy with his mean green on which made me proud. Even more amusing was the aggy who decided to wear his maroon "saw em off" shirt to the game...brave! Seriously though, I have never seen so much orange in one place... it was hardly a neutral site...almost creepy...
-
If they become a Div1A team, we should definately play them. Until then, I see no reason to play them. Like you said, there is nothing for NT to gain.
-
sounds kinda like Fresno State
-
Im assuming this is sarcasm, otherwise im confused at the point of your post? seems a little knee-jerk. We had alot of problems on offense, and he was a freshmen, no?
-
So I'm reading a USC/UCLA article when it says:

Oh well shame on me then cause I was at the game, and didnt even notice-- stupid $7.50 beers! I thought he was a redshirt freshman, must be thinking of someone else. My apologies. Once Texas scored 70 and started running that boring "dont score any more points" offense, I tuned out and ended up talking about NT to the guy sitting next to me. I still say anytime someone can score a hundred, they should (which is a brave stance to take considering im a NT fan). -
La Tech routing Fresno at half, 25-3.

well I guess that explains 2 of the 9 losses... -

I dont think UT has a third string QB (without buring a red shirt), #7 is the backup senior. And he isnt bad, but he will be gone next year. If Vince leave, Texas will be in the same boat as us with a redshirt frosh taking his first snap in the opener. Although this will not matter as the aforementioned running by committe will likely put a world of hurt on us anyways. -
Yes, they are making strides in their athletic department (namely football). Will they pass us? I doubt it. How good are their other sports? How are their other facilities? Does it rival what we are doing at Eagle Point? Doubt it. Also, many of their academic programs are still behind NT and many other Div1A schools in Texas. Yes they are growing rapidly, as is support for their program. But so is NT. Dont let one bad football season for us, and one good season in Div 1AA for them let you believe the sky is falling. Its not. I also do not think this success they have enjoyed at the 1AA level would necessarily translate directly into success at the D1A level. Many of Texas State's players transferred there from D1A schools because they wouldnt have to sit out a year and could have an immediate impact. Their QB was orginally recruited by U of H but I think (not certain) there were some personal problems/issues that led him to leave UH and Texas State was happy to take him (for obvious reasons). He is as much or more to TexState what VY is to UT.

cant imagine the point spread being much... USC would have to be the favorite, but I think it will be a close game. Im sure many will compare Texas this year to OU last year, however Texas's secondary/defense is much better than OU's was in 2004. USC's d-line isnt as good as it was last year and Texas's rushing by committee seems to be pretty effective- if fresno could run up the middle all day. Texas's Oline should create holes. Same for USC. I think taking those things into account should make for a good game. Much like last year's Rose Bowl, both teams will score alot of points, IMO and Texas success/failure will again rest almost entirely on #10. If he plays lights out, watch out, Texas could upset. If he turns the ball over alot, LONG day for horns.

that is pure genius right there my friend, i laughed out loud in my office when I that came up

that was a great game. NIU's tailback, Wolfe, had a field day running all over Akron (close to 300 yards if Im not mistaken)...then they blew a 14 point lead in the 4th quarter. he is only 5'7" 175... reminded me a little of sproules (sp?). That catch by Hickson was even more remarkable because he had been out of the game with an injury until that play... everyone thought he was out there as a decoy and instead he runs a post (puts a great move on the DB) and catches the game winning TD. NIU choked. But it was fun to watch. Oh and thank God we arent in the MAC. Seems like all of their games are played Monday-Thursday. You think we have attendance problems? A shudder to think what it would look like with several thursday or tuesday night games. That stadium at their championship game looked EMPTY.
-
where is that smiley beating its head against a brick wall? That is me.
-
I dont care about SMU one bit. But 2 wins over top 25 teams and winning the last few games of the season, playing close with almost all of their competition (exception A&M) and having a bright look to next season... I would take that 5-6 season in C-USA over ASU's 6-5 New Orleans Bowl season.
-
Yes and it pisses me off. Its a small minded mentality from the last guy in a football program that should be thinking small.
-
thats a pretty big "what-if" isnt it? especially with little to zero proof of something like that happening. And how often do people write a check for say $10 mill and say "just put it wherever"
-
agree with untgirl04, football seems to be where this would be needed most, wouldnt you think?
-
Dont forget the TEXANS! But that argument could be made the other way as well. Who's to say averageing 30k+ fans a game in a new stadium with outstanding facilities wouldnt make us attractive to other conferences? I think they both need to happen and CUSA is a good place to go. But we were given the choice between one or the other. So I chose the stadium. I figure its easier to switch conferences than it is to build a multi million $ stadium. For example, we have been in 1 stadium for how long, and how many conferences in that time period?
