  1. One of the best football games I've ever attended. Packed stadium. Crowd was totally into it. Couldn't help but thinking what it would look like if everyone was wearing green. Then I smiled. Then I got sad. Then I stopped thinking about things that make me sad and enjoyed a local team winning something, anything.
  2. Truth. I am a big fan of Knoxville. Wish I could have made this trip -- even if it meant watching a blood bath. And there will... be.. blood.
  3. They're going to keep firing coordinators until the actual problem takes the USC job or moves to the NFL.
  4. Yeah, they spent a bunch of cash on a DC, last season, and it's worked... wonders... for... their...program.
  5. Disappointed to find that this is not in fact a "Who Wore It Better" thread.
  6. There are like 300k people in DFW with ties to UNT, between current students, alums, and former students. 10% showed up to a bowl game in their own backyard. I guess that's good?
  7. This quote amuses me. There are only "a minute few who are very loud" because there are only a minute few relative to our entire DFW fanbase who still give a shit.
  8. I don't care if he's not coming here, I never advocated Spavital coming here, I just said I'd like a younger guy who can recruit. As I understand it, there's more to college football than recruiting, so I'd obviously like him to be able to coach, too.
  9. Murray should have gone to UT. With a bit of effort, he'd have likely been the starter ever year he was there. Baseball was another big consideration for Murray. I understand UT has a baseball program, too? Regardless, I think you see Murray go pro in baseball sooner rather than later. As for Spavital, I too will pass on what he's selling. Don't overthink this hire. Go get a good, young coordinator that has energy and can sell the dream. All it takes is one really good class with a couple big-name recruits to turn this ship around.
  10. I was just thinking about the time Kansas went 11-2 and went to a BCS bowl. Those were the days, eh Jayhawk Nation? That said, I'd prefer a younger up-and-comer. Ideally one who is without baggage.
  11. The goal is to hire a coach that does so well he's gone in three years, then rinse, repeat. It's the UH model.
  12. Whereas no serious candidates will take less than 5 years, I would say 5 years.
  13. Your cred just went through the roof.
  14. I think we just need better execution.
  15. YOU KNOW DMX?!??!
  16. To your point, there have only been 4 titles in Texas since 1963 -- and all of them were the same school. Meanwhile in Alabama...
  17. I mean, that kind of sums it all up, doesn't it?
  18. So do tragedies of every kind, every day. Reality: fewer and further between were folks outside of DFW thought this was a good hire. If you want to argue semantics, sure it was both a splash and a bad hire: the two are not mutually exclusive. I used "splash" hire with the assumption it would also be a "good" hire. I assumed people would grant the benefit of the doubt on that. Perhaps not. Not everyone knows or cares about everything going on within the boundaries of DFW. NT has done a good job the past decade distancing itself from the "leading university of the DFW area" stuff, thinking more broadly and universally. It would do well to follow suit with athletics. Todd Dodge was a local hero -- not a good "splash" hire.
  19. All fair points. I guess I'd just like to see us make a splash hire for once. A hire that says "we're going to take this seriously." But I don't know what that looks like and I'm a dreamer by trade. I'd be intrigued by this, too.
  20. Agreed. This staff is completely useless.
  21. And together, they've turned TCU into a Top-5 team in 2015. Gary Patterson knows that. They're not going to leave unless it's for a better opportunity and more pay -- and there's no reason to think TCU can't match a coordinator's pay with anything we want to pay a head coach. Cumbie's been a great addition as an offensive mind. But bringing him in as a Head Coach at 34 years of age is probably as big a stretch as hiring a legendary HS football coach.
  22. Agreed. And then bring in Ed Orgeron to coach the defense. Or just hire Ed to do the entire thing. Press conferences would be must-see TV.
  23. This is my #1 concern with retaining him. I've heard a lot of things about how poorly this staff has done with respects to recruitment. It's my assumption that it is directly related to the head coach. The next coach needs to be a home-run hire. Or at least a stand-up triple. We can't keep doing this every few years. If at the end of the day, Canales is the best option, so be it. I suspect that won't be the case.
