  1. You cant use the public funding for the dallas campus on a stadium either way. And what basis do you have for that accusation?
  2. Good call. Ive also grown bored of the "we have seen better times against better opponents" arguments. Well no sh*t. Almost anyone with a 2-9 campaign could say that. Hayden Fry is gone, he isnt coming back. We arent getting out of the Sun belt on football alone anyways, so be glad our BBall teams seem to be picking up where we are slacking in football. Womens has already knocked off 2 C-USA teams this year. I expect we will have a Big 12 win in a couple days (or at least I hope). The mens almost had one last week. It would do us good to knock off a ranked UH team at home. Next year we need to split or OOC games at the very least. That means win BOTH home games and get back to owning the belt. Nobody on this board will dispute that this last year sucked and was unacceptable. And I would bet very few people would have a problem booting the coaching staff if we see a repeat next year. As far as the University is concerned, all I read is a bunch of heresay and opinions from many people on this board. Which is fine, thats what the board is for, but they shouldnt be passed off as fact. The people I know that actually do know whats going on seem to think we are headed in the right direction (sans Dickey). There is a really cool master plan for the university in place, and if/when it all comes to fruition, it will be impressive. Just takes a little time. As does going from the cellar to stellar. (i think i might coin that)
  3. haha, no I meant I was good for bringing about 8 in my group... i assume some of yall are gonna go too, right? theres plenty of orange there, we need some green
  4. any time non bcs schools begin to have success, the almighty BC$ swoops in and takes the guy that got them there. Cant say I blame the guy for going, though... thats a chunk of cash. I was happy to hear Tulsa's coach said "no thanks"
  5. yeah that guy is a freak. I love the way he goes one way, then cuts clear across the field the other way. Its like he runs 80 yards on every play, whether they gain 10 or 70yds on the play... bet its hell to block for the guy
  6. Pretty good article. Nice to see them pick on someone other than the NO Bowl Best and Worsts UNTSIG, figured you (and others out in LaLa Land) would enjoy the "Best Place to Party" segment.. gotta agree, that was a blast! Wish I was gonna be out there for the rose bowl festivities
  7. I like your picks,Jim, but I will make a couple of switches ... I'll take, Iowa State over TCU Not a popular pick, but they are a different team when Hicks is healthy Houston over Kansas KU has a great rush defense. Wont matter because Kolb will light it up in the air BC over Boise Just dont think they have enough to run with this schizo ACC team. Especially if Hawkins goes to CU. 2 games that are hard to call and I dont have the cahones to money on: Nebraska could upset Michigan if they actually are turning the corner in their program... unless the colorado game was a fluke. Bama's defense is puzzling. Is it good because they beat a bunch of teams with no offense, or are they that good? And, have they ever seen anyone with an offense like Tech? Without Bamas start WR, they dont have the players to run point for point with Tech. If they dont clamp down on them, they will have a hard time. Tech scored 33 ppg in conference play (I exclude their 2.5 games against 1aa teams) and Bama scored 19 in the SEC. Tech only played 1 good defense (texas) and 2 decent defenses (OU and KU).
  8. The big12 has 2 big opportunities to exploit the "perceived" weakness of the PAC-10, and visa versa. OU plays Oregon and Texas plays USC (#1 and #2). Id watch out for OU to pull the upset. They are getting better everytime they play and AD is fully healthy. They are probably the best 7-4 team in the nation. Basically all this arguing will be settled in 20 some odd days. Both conferences will have opportunities for bragging rights. Until then all the arguing on what will happen is useless. I'm amazed that nobody expected USC to whip OU like they did last year. I did (granted not that bad). OU had a crappy secondary all of 2004 and the only reason Texas didnt beat them was because they refused to throw the ball down field and kept running the same unimaginitive offense. Then they handed the reigns over to VY and Texas hasnt lost a game since. Couple things make this game different for me: Texas has a better defense than OU did last year. They also boast one of the best secondaries in the nation. USC's offense is better than last years. Texas has 3rd best rushing offense in the nation (anyone see how well Fresno ran on USC with an Oline that is inferior to Texas?). USC has mind bullets on Texas. All of these things lead me to believe it should be a good game, and not a blow out like last year. Again, it doesnt really matter what we all say, the Big 12 vs Pac 10 will be settled in few weeks.
  9. it wont be a 65 point spread, it will be more like 35. And we wont cover. But I will be there in green having a blast with about 8 others. I always love an austin road trip. Last time we made it a river weekend, which i highly recommend. Very few things compare to a weekend of watching football and drinking beer on a river.
  10. No question Bush was hyped, and will continue to be hyped until draft day, then for the 2006 NFL season. Almost feel bad for the guy because it will be tough to live up to all the expectations. I think Bush should have won the heisman, I just dont think it should have been the land slide victory that it was. I think VY and ML both had legitimate cases for the trophy (if you look at the body of work done in the season), but like you said, the last 2 games are everything to the voters. Even Terry Bowdens' brilliance pointed that out in one of his "gems" on yahoo. the media ran wild with bush, all but declaring him the winner 3 weeks before, which i thought was pretty lame.
  11. no offense to the ASU fan at all, but if you are the NO Bowl, you had to be rooting for UL-Laf... seems like they would have had a pretty good showing at home
  12. haha, well I must say I never thought Id see the day it was colder in hell than in Houston (though various parallels between their respective climates could most cetainly be made)! I suppose now I should be on the watch for flying monkeys and unicorns, as the improbable has suddenly become a possibility...
  13. That doesnt really make any sense, or its a loose association at best to relate him to the baseball team And I didnt take the bank machine game to be pouting, more that he looked frustrated with his own play. we have a QB that seems to do that alot, sitting off by himself pouting. Careful throwing stones.. On the other hand, I also think its not that big of a deal. I get tired of the rehearsed "everyone is wonderful" speeches. At least he's being real-- or "gangsta" , as he calls it
  14. good points!
  15. I didnt hear it, but that is one of my favorite bits... Especially when Corby calls in acting like his daughter.
  16. While agree it is more difficult, I do not think it is an excuse for it to not be done. Other schools seem to manage, I think we should be able to as well. In fact, we have as many students (or more) as most other schools in our region. Students can always make it to a 2 hour game if they want to. Yes I realize there are circumstances, and exams (and possibly a night class) that may prevent them on occasion, but for the most part, its just a decision which is of greater interest. Any other alternatives or a Bball game. Right now, BBall isnt as attractive. I think if we can work to make an exciting atmosphere like we have football games (and there is still work to be done there), then it will grow gradually in support much in the same way. It starts with organziations (greek, RHA, SGA, etc) continuing to be proacitve and then it extends to the general student body. It also starts with winning. The football program created a buzz by winning games (and tailgating). I think if the teams continue to be successful, it will be easier to get folks to the games. I know it would have been easier to get myself there when I was in school.
  17. Great article on this: Quit Acting Like a Baby, Vince excerpt:
  18. So your argument is to name 2 guys that have played in the last 20 years that are smaller and lighter than this guy. Good point. They dont represent the norm and Vicks sub 4.3 speed is certainly a rarity. By prototypical I meant more than 200 pounds and closer to 6'3. Look at that list of QBs on the other thread that has the guys eligible for the draft. The majority fit what I described. I dont recall saying anywhere that the guy couldnt throw a football because he wasnt as big as other guys, nor did I say he couldnt be a very good QB. I hope he is a great QB for us, obviously
  19. Speaking of guys who played QB in HS, whatever happened to Tye Rexode? It says he runs a 4.5 and is 6'3"... surely there is somewhere he can fit in? He is listed on the NT site as being a DE (at 200lbs ) and a back up linebacker this year.
  20. Err yeah... sorry... getting late, brain powering down... they are about the same size guys, however. Seems like all of our QBs are about 6 foot and between around 180-200 (with the exception of Byerly and I dont see him coming back as a QB)
  21. Rivals Info On Wilson I can see why other D1A schools would want him to be a DB, hes on the smallish side for a prototypical QB. On Rivals it stated he was going to go to Arkansas but had to get his grades up. That concerns me some. Not that necessarily that he needed higher grades, but that they were for ARKANSAS. Either way, good pick up for us and look forward to seeing him in practice! I guess this would seal Phillips fate as a safety?
  22. I think the cheerleader coach is a guy, but either way I agree. Seems like it should have been figured out long before it reaches the AD...
  23. see Darren Sproules as well.... if he's fast, his size is less of a factor. U of H has a couple of guys that are smaller in size than most of the big BCS programs would prefer, but they are ultra fast and also run track at UH. Speed is something you can never have too much of, IMO
