UNT looking for running backs coach AGAIN
Eagle1855 replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
seems to me that there would be guys out there who would be interested in coaching RB's at a school that featured back-to-back rushing champs. Like, maybe that is a nice notch in ones metaphorical coaching belt? -
There is actually more truth to this than you may think. I think SMU is going to suprise a lot of people this year. They finished strong, and were "in" all of their games (with the exception of A&M and a random Tulane game). They barely lost to Tulsa and beat UTEP and Houston to finish the season. From what I understand, they didnt lose very many starters. Basically, we have a lot more question marks than they do. I wouldnt just assume this is a win as this isnt the same SMU team as years past.

Well Texas State is very different than the last time we played them. they have over 27k students now, and I think even NT has more interest in athletics now than it did in the early 90s, of course I was in junior high then so I may be wrong

agreed, I have never known a Dallas officer or even Denton officer to just up and arrest someone solely on the basis of them being intoxicated. In fact, I have seen them watch people that were fall-down drunk outside the bar and then try to find a friend that can take the person so they dont have to deal with them. Now, if the person is yelling, arguing, fighting, or otherwise causing a distrubance, they will take them to the ground, and I say good. That person deserves it. The key factor to being arrested is drunk in public is generally the "disorderly" part, and that is fine with me. My problem is with TABC officers who have nothing better to do than to sit and wait for a bartender to screw up based on some stupid obscure rule or TABC setting up stings to TRY and bust otherwise honest bartenders. This, to me, is a waste of time. The bigger problem here is that no one is expected to be accountable for their own actions anymore. Its not the fault of the 19y/o idiot who borrowed a friends ID to get into a bar, then drank himself into oblivion, then got into a wreck when he left the bar... we instead place blame on the bartender who served the minor (who misrepresented his identity in the first place). If people cant control their alcohol consumption, they dont need to be in a bar in the first place, and should take responsibility for their actions.

UNTSIG has been busy with work and MYSPACE, the other E-Crack. I'll let him know his presence has been missed...

actually Im thoroughly enjoying this bout of witty banter... I mean, we could always bring up QB controversy or logo talk and watch the entire board collectively power-down...

HoustonChronicle.com http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/front/3742462.html More than 2,200 people have been arrested in Texas bars in the six months since the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission announced a crackdown on public intoxication, primarily targeting bars. The arrests included people who were drunk in bars, who sold alcohol to a drunk person, or a drunk employee on the premises of a bar or restaurant with a license to sell alcohol, said Carolyn Beck, a spokeswoman for the TABC. The commission has been responsible for enforcing the state's alcoholic beverage code for the past 70 years. In August, 2005, the agency announced it was beginning a crackdown on public intoxication, using both undercover and open operations. The agency has used undercover agents before, Beck said. In a recent operation, agents infiltrated 36 bars in a Dallas suburb and arrested 30 people for public intoxication. "The laws in Texas against public intoxication also apply to bars," Beck said. "Texas has the highest DWI rate in the nation, and we are trying to reduce those rates." The TABC also is trying to "encourage licensees" to serve patrons responsibly, Beck said. Part of the problem with enforcing the state's code regulating alcohol sales is "people still think that a bar is place to go get drunk," Beck said. "People can go into bars and have fun with their friends and not become intoxicated to the point whether they may become a danger to themselves or others." People arrested for public intoxication "are not people who had a couple of beers with dinner. They are people who are so drunk that they caught the attention of a TABC agent," Beck said. TABC agents have the discretion to cite the person for public intoxication and release them to "a responsible party." Or, a person who is so drunk "that they may be a danger to themselves or others" can be arrested and taken to jail, Beck said. While customers are being questioned, another TABC agent is taking steps to arrest and take to jail the employees responsible for selling alcohol to an intoxicated person, Beck said. In the Houston area, the TABC is conducting an enforcement program called Operation "Last Call," said Sgt. Mike Barnett, that is "designed to reduce the number of DWIs." "The program, in a nutshell, is designed to keep the streets safer by reducing the numbers of DWI offenders," he said.

This could probably be said about ~100 RBs across the nation, and there might be ONE diamond in the rough among them...

Tickets to Texas games can always be found for pretty cheap (or at least the face value of the ticket) somewhere outside the stadium as long as they arent playing a team like Tech or A&M (or Ohio State the next weekend). You shouldnt have any problem finding them or getting them from NT. There is NO reason you should pay more than $60

The TABC is useless. Let local police officers do their job. Bartenders dont need to be bothered with counting how many drinks per hour they are serving every single patron in a bar. Its hard enough to even get all the drink orders out when a bar is slammed with traffic. If you are old enough to get into a bar and consume alcohol, you are old enough to make the decision to (or not to) drink in a responsible fashion. This is just another example of some state tax-supported governmental power flexing its muscles, over-stepping their bounds, and doing their best to take away as many personal freedoms as possible to massage their egos. They have already told us we cant smoke in bars in Austin... maybe next we can get rid of that nasty alcohol as well. I dont smoke, but the infringement on personal freedoms annoys me. I'll be happy to write my congressman.

not suprised at all. I wish PC the best, but the reality is he probably wont get drafted- 2003 rushing champion or not. Unfortunately, everyone in the nation views this feat as one that was accomplished primarily because of the level of competition (or lack of) in the Sun Belt. The 4.94 is terrible. A 4.71 for a back isnt good- regardless of how well he cuts and how good his vision is. He isnt big enough to not have some speed.

While nothing hurts like a 65-0 blowout (except maybe a 77-0 in 3 quarters to a conference mate), I have found that going down to 6th or 4th street after the game and using some Jagermeister on that wounded pride tends to relieve some of the pain and can actually help make for an enjoyable evening. Sure did for me a couple years ago, and I see no reason why it wouldnt work again, in the event such a disaster took place...

Who's got the best looking REAREND?
Eagle1855 replied to FirefightnRick's topic in Mean Green Football
looks good. nice looking hitch cover as well! -
agreed. I dont see TCU leaving, although they have been conference whores the last 5 years. I think they are vying for a BCS spot somewhere, or hoping the MWC becomes a BCS conference. And Im with you 100% on SMU...

What if Marcus Vick opted to play for UNT.
Eagle1855 replied to fan19740's topic in Mean Green Football
I think you might be crazy if you say no to this far-fetched pipe dream. This is what would happen. He would decide to come here, say he wants to help us win (which he would as he is probably faster than anyone on our team and throws a really good ball as well), say that he has learned a lot from his past mistakes, etc. then we would all be like "well, ok, I guess we should give him a shot" realizing he would be the first NT QB drafted in I dont even know how long if ever. I understand the strong moral stance by some, I appreciate that, but it would pack the stadium and put is "in" every game this year. -
thanks! that SMU stat hurts. they have owned us. lets hope we can start the slow road back towards evening that out this year.

well, what is our record against those schools?

wait isnt UT a professional football team? I agree, UT wont care about Tx State moving up. We should, however.
