  1. it wasnt you who said it, it was Seminole Indian a few weeks back:
  2. Mack Brown is a hell of a salesman, remember that. He isnt going to sit there and say, well, we really arent doing well... Im worried about our QBs, etc... These are obviously outstanding recruits, else they wouldnt be headed to Texas. However, as Longjim stated, this will be their first Div1A game and there will be some mistakes.
  3. Im good for some green as well... does this have to be approved by the NCAA or the admin at the school? If so, I assume this would just be a formality. Probably an ignorant question, but I figure someone here knows about all these things...
  4. who cares? I bet you were a blast in grade school. "Teacher Teacher, guess what Johnny did?!"
  5. If by "everyone catching up to us and passing us by" you mean everyone "pasting" us with 3 and 7 point "ass beatings" during our down year, i feel pretty good about 2006. We fielded the worst team, with less experience than we have had in years and still managed to somehow stay in every game we played (including your "power house" from Groansboro) with this new "world beater" sun belt conference you guys have formed in our absence. Thank you for your posts, however, as I am finally looking forward to playing (and beating the ass of) someone in the Sun Belt conference. Who woulda thunk it?
  6. David Thomas. Will Matthews was a FB that came out a year ago but great post, otherwise!
  7. on offense: 1.) I start Wilson and Thomas (assuming he is healthy). 2.) a. first play from LOS, I run a play action with quinn on a go route... just chunk it deep. worst case, its a turnover in their territory, best case, completion, and at the very least it backs up the defense. try to take advantage of a less experienced, albeit highly athletic, secondary. Maybe catch them by surprise. b. if that doesnt work, I run another pass play and try to play a little pitch and catch with a short route. c. Id run another pass play and give wilson the option to take off running if he doesnt see anyone open what I would NOT do is try to beat Texas in the trenches with that killer D-line by attempting to run it several times up the gut. Thats the quickest route to a three and out. With an over aggressive D like Texas, Id run screens and play action pass plays. we need mobility in a QB because our O-line will be over-powered all day long. read: he will be running for his life at times. on defense: 1.) QB indecision. I think Texas will be in a similar postion as OU was last year. No matter how good you are, its your first game in D1A football. There will be mistakes. Can we be TCU? Can we capitalize? I dont think Texas will throw the ball a lot starting the game. 2.)Ramonce Taylor. He is incredibly fast and versatile (poor mans Reggie Bush?). Assuming he makes his grades, he'll hurt us. Jamaal Charles could give us problems as well if he can hang on to the football. Texas is loaded at RB. And Henry Melton is a freak of nature. 3.) Id use one of our faster LB's or safety's as a spy on Taylor. Guy is so fast he can hurt you so many ways. 4.)I blitz. heavily. if they are going to beat us, let them do it in the air. we have some athletic DBs. Conservative gets you nowhere when you are overmatched physically, IMO. Id have guys flying in from all over the place to start off the game. try to force a turnover or screw up timing. Anything to knock them out of sync In the end, we still lose. But at least make the game exciting for a little while and maybe keep it closer til the 3rd or 4th, where depth inevitably takes over.
  8. oooh hes not going to appreciate comments like that from you F#$%ers!
  9. Im pretty much done with Nike's new unis... most of them look about as attractive to me as a prostate exam from a doctor with fat fingers. the trainwreck of orange and blue all over Florida's uniforms are only slightly less offensive than the eye-cancer-causing uniforms Oregon has inflicted on the college football world.
  10. maybe, but would you say that if they were writing these articles about NT's (relative) athletic success? honestly, I am curious, not taking jabs. I still maintain that athletics are the window through which the outside world first gets a glimpse of a school. It can create an interest in a student to where they actively seek more information about the academic side. Athletics are the ultimate marketing campaign I mean, most people are looking for something to belong to, to be a part of, in all facets of life. I dont know that its a bad thing. May not be my thing or you thing, but still. If we are going to call them sheep, I wish we had a few more in our fold. Especially if they are going to show up in droves to Fouts Field and the Super Pit...
  11. actually, if you buy the hat from a liscensed dealer (like a retail store like Lids, which is what I think he is talking about) it doesnt matter what you do with it because they have already earned their money. I have actually seen a green longhorn hat, and it would be funny to have the eagle stitched on top of it. However, by purchasing the hat, you are really not hurting UT at all, as you would be sending your money straight to their pockets. I say just make a shirt that say F-UT. I mean, sure its not really very classy, but it is effective.
  12. I think the coach that caused the violations can still be held accountable for some things cant he? If not, you're right, raw deal for the new guy...
  13. because we are educated and actually attended the college for which we are rooting
  14. good luck with that! I mean, I have overdraft protection, but I dont think they'd cover that You'd be better off with a suitcase full of IOU's..at least then you could recycle the paper they were written on!
  15. Ive gotten it three times, forwarded it to Harry
  16. Couple things: Dan Reeves came in at the end of the year and said that part of the O-line's problem was the blocking schemes used by the Caper's staff. He hadnt ever seen anything so confusing and ineffective. The other problem with the sacks is actually David Carr himself. Look at early draft notes on him right before he came out. one of the knocks on him was "holds onto the ball for too long" ... bad thing for the NFL, no matter what line you have in front of you. Look for Kubiak to fix both. If he could get something out of Plummer, he may be able to work some magic on Carr. Carr still has a good arm and some mobility, which are things Kubiak really likes in a QB, and sees that in Carr. Or at least, so he says. Texans will be fine on all other skill positions on offense. The addition of Moulds will complement Andre Johnson nicely. Davis is a 1000 yard back and should preform (if he can hang onto the ball). Throw a guy like Bush in there that can line up in the slot (and do it well), line up at half back, and perform on special teams (along with Mathis, the Texans Pro Bowl returner), Id say there will be significant upgrades to the offensive this off-season, and we should see increased production. Of course, there are still question marks on defense, especially in the secondary since Buchanon has been a bust, but I like them to win several more games next year and set themselves up as a playoff contender for the 2007 season. Of course, this board has a large Cowboy-fan contingency, so I am probably wasting my time writing all this... haha
  17. Actually, OSU lost a couple of O-linemen and their entire defensive back 7, so I wouldnt call them "loaded with veterans". Tough game to call. This game will probably come down to how Texas' defense does vs OSU's offense- which should be a pretty good offense. As far as our game is concerned, Texas is still going to have a killer D, and we still havent scored any points to their 92. I hope our D resembles that of 2001, 2002. If so, we might keep it close®. But we are still going to have serious problems moving the ball.
  18. 'stros, now but I will take it, I set myself up for it. haha but I meant the front office of that organization is terrible. The Texans have a lot more to look forward to than the Jets, and it starts with a 5'11 guy from USC, that wore #5
  19. which is what I just said. Our OOC play is terrible. Thanks for pointing that out again, it will make you really popular on this board. And OSU almost lost to a div 1AA school as well, so I dont consider that a very impressive feat. They sucked the first half of the season. MTSU was impressive beating Vandy. I agree. too bad about that first conference game of the season they dropped to the "underachievers". Anyways, you are welcome to tell us how to run our program once you guys have figured out how to win 3 more conference titles- outright. Until then, I suggest you start thinking about how you are going to cope with losing to the "underachievers" and their "thick-headed, negative fans" next year. viva la sunbelt
  20. I wasnt aware positive thinking by fans was what won football games, nor did I know that our thick-headedness would result in us falling to last place in the conference. Had I know this I would have popped a few anti depressants and fired off some rainbow-laden unicorn posts. But I can see the point you are trying to make and I agree to an extent. Our frustrations come from a terrible season, but the larger part (at least for myself) is disappointment in OOC games. Our frustrations also come from having larger expectations than SBC. We arent satisfied just winning the belt anymore, sorry. Losing SBC games is about as bad as losing 54-2 to Tulsa, in my opinion. I dont think the Sun Belt has gotten better, honestly. I think NT has just gotten worse. As is evident by our dismal showing in OOC play and the fact that we still just barely lost the games we dropped in conference play.
  21. the seats did suck, but its pretty easy to scalp cheaper and better tickets outside the stadium right before the game. we had to do it for a couple people in '04 the last time we played. Im sure there will be plenty available with Ohio State coming in town the next week.
  22. man I feel sorry for him. that has to be one of the worst organizations in the entire NFL. I wish him well. Heres to a great year for him and someone else wanting to pick him up in '07
  23. based on what, Nostradamus?
  24. not likely, their athletic facilities and their football attendance figures (during the season) dont really compare to ours. Outside of a marginally competitve baseball team, what do they have to offer that we dont? If Texas State was D1A, Barrick Nealy never would have transferred there. Lets not get down on our program because they had one great football year.
