  1. personally, i also like players who dont "lose". And no, they didnt say that about him when he came out of HS. He was heralded as one of the best QB prospects in the country. so you say you dont care about numbers, then you "pluck" stats that fit your argument. interesting move. There is more to a defense than the D-line. There is more to VY's passing stats than just the completions. the kinds of throws, the kinds of reads, etc have to be taken into account as well. but you knew that already, as you are apparently an expert on Texas football with a masters degree in Vinceology. I think VY is a great player, and I loved watching him play in college. I also think he will be a fine NFL QB. I just dont think he came here to save us from our sins. And I dont think adding VY to an NFL team ensures victory, as you so boldy predicted over the Texans for the next 12 years.
  2. wouldnt suprise me at all. anyone who has met him knows he's shorter than his "advertised" height.
  3. wrong. If you think VY will run around people in the NFL like he did in college, you are mistaken. There a tons of LB's in the NFL that are just as fast or faster than he. No doubt he is elusive and one of the most (if not the most) prolific college players. But him going to the titans in no way ensures they will win the rest of their games until forever. that is absurd. And the Texans couldnt have done anything to prevent that either way. I think Carr will be fine with new schemes and more help on the O-line (both of which they addressed in the off season). But, time will tell. And Mario Williams is a great addition. He will make an instant impact. The texans wanted to get better defensively, which is important when you are in a division with the Colts.
  4. this is what makes me sick. Anyone who is from Houston knows why VY going to the Titans is especially painful. A lot of people were concerned about Leinarts inability to throw the deep ball. He has remarkable touch, just doesnt have the arm strength of VY or Jay Cutler, so it doesnt suprise me that he slipped to the 10 spot. Im OK with the Texans pick. I wasnt at first. I tend to agree with you Emmitt, I do think RB is a once in a lifetime guy, but time will tell. We needed help on both sides of the ball. My biggest complaint is that the Texans really dont have a face/identity. When you think of the team, there isnt one player who stands out. We had a chance to pull in a guy like that and passed on it. I hope it doesnt come back to haunt us, though I feel it might... and he may be wearing #10...
  5. ugh. This annoys me greatly, and probably screws up everyone's mock drafts. Is it a need? probably. But you just dont see players like Bush every year. Hopefully this turns out better than Casserly's other "gems" (who is being let go after the draft, why you keep someone on is beyond me). They sure havent made it easy to be a Texans fan the last 4 years...
  6. predictable, but enjoyable nonetheless
  7. oh I dont know, Im really looking forward to seeing 6-6 rutgers take on 6-6 washington state. matchup for the ages!
  8. unfortunately for the belt, they will probably lose every single one of those. they may have a shot at monroe, however. but yeah, thats brutal
  9. Now just where was John Johnson or Robert Robertson while all of this was going on? Thats what I want to know.
  10. based on last year, who can blame them?
  11. Im really happy about this, Avery is a good guy, and I like the Mavs. Thats the one Dallas team I took on when I was living in the area! I dont know if they can beat the Spurs, but I think they have a better shot than anyone else. The Spurs have to be the favorite at this point. Hope Dirk can come to play this year in the playoffs
  12. they did that for me as well. Im not a member right now, partly because I dont see the point, but even moreso, because I have just been lazy and havent bothered to do it. Im planning on joing as a lifetime member. I do, however, think it is important to have a large and EFFECTIVE alumni association. I emphasize effective because I have concerns. I tried to find out info about the scholarship dinner in Houston at least a week before the event and heard nothing until the day of the event. Someone called me and was very apologetic, which I appreciated, but seriously, you cant expect someone to go to a dinner and pay $50 a head when you find out the relevant information THE NIGHT OF THE EVENT! Perhaps I never heard of the event because my Exes membership has run its course. If this is the case, part of the blame rests on myself.
  13. he does. you are both right
  14. look no further than the 2005 predition/results to see how valuable these write-ups really are
  15. did you go for a Dynamo game? Ive been wanting to check one out! I also like that stadium now that they have re-done it.
  16. Cypress Creek H S, Houston Texas
  17. well both are starting new QB's right? who knows. Texas Tech is so plug-n-play, they should be good for some offensive output, but they lost a pretty good RB as well. honestly, I hope they are both miserable September 2nd.
  18. keep in mind this is the first time these metroplex rivals have played in, what 15ish years? Hard to say. SMU thinks they will have a break-out year next year. And who can blame them? they finished 2005 pretty nicely. remained competitive in most games (sans a disaster in Collie Station), including Tulsa and beating Houston. Oh yeah, and that whole TCU thing... Look for the place to be packed. I'll be there, and I will punch my SMU attending brother in the stomach for every point they score on us. For his sake, I hope our defense has a banner year...
  19. Tupac faked his death!
  20. sounds pretty inevitable at this point. (at least thats the way it sounded on 610 this morning here in town) no sponsor has stepped up, no money to pay out.
  21. oh ok, my mistake. WHEW, for a minute there I thought athletics might have been kicked down a notch or two on the ole ladder of importance. glad to see its where it's always been...
  22. did I miss it, or was there little/zero stated regarding athletics? am I to make assumptions here?
  23. like I said, , Hayden Fry was the best we have had I would never argue with you on that. I was simply stating that since HF, I dont think we have been close to the top 25 until 2003 when we were 9-3 and had an opportunity to have our first 10 win season in ages. Are there not are more people at games now than there was 10, 15, 20 years ago (on average)? There are certainly more people that didnt even attend NT that know about us because of our recent accomplishments (whether you want to minimalize them or not) than there were in 1996, 1990, 1985 or whatever. How many USA today's featured one of our players were there in the past? Im not talking about RBs filling fouts, but they, as well as a 26 game conference winning streak and 4 titles put us on the map, and there is no denying that (whether its a case of the "best of the worst" or not). I agree as much as anyone that we have to beat some noticable opponents. No, I am not content with beating up on the SunBelt year in and year out. But I dont see how anyone could say we arent better off now (minus last year) than we have been in over 25 years. And thats what matters in 2006, what we have done recently. Its important to understand where we came from, but we have to produce now. This is an important year in MG football, in my opinion. I have high expectations for this program. You can call me crazy, but I think we will be a team like TT and TCU in the future, that can cause problems for top ranked teams, that hangs out in the top 25 every year. For that to happen, it takes a big committment from the fans and the administration. I know I am up for whatever it takes, but I dont know about the majority of fans/alumns, or the admin. I sometimes wonder if either think big enough. I also dont know if DD is the guy or not. history suggests that he is not. If he isnt, would the admin commit to bringing in a guy with a name, as UTEP and UCF have done? Im not sure. this year will tell us a lot.
  24. no matter what the Negative Ned's say, we are still better off than we were 5, 10, 15 years ago. How many times before that did we have a freshman break the 200 yard game rushing record? back to back rushing champs? 4 straight conference titles? how about a bowl win? People notice these things. Like it or not, its better now than its been since maybe Hayden Fry. Not comparing DD to HF, but the program as a whole has improved. Im not certain DD is the guy to push us into top 25 territory, but we were sniffing the top 25 in 2003 (got a few votes) and probably would have been there with a bowl win over memphis.
  25. I know he does. they have never had as many season ticket sales as they have since Mack has been there. I think UT has always had a pretty marketable product, they just needed that guy to send it through the roof. It has worked well. NT has a pretty good product as well. Its one of the best colleges in the state that no one has heard of. Athletics would be a great way to change that. just a thought (or beaten dead horse)
