  1. great news. He seems to have quite a penchant for proving people wrong, hope it continues!
  2. same difference. haha, actually I know it isnt, but I like to lump all DFW-ites into one, much in the same way everyone assumes all of Houston is a trash heap spent 6 years in the metroplex, still not sure of that one... jokes, jokes...
  3. I assume this is a joke, but in the event that it is not, yes, there are non crappy parts of Houston. Congrats on your blanketed insult of 2 million (5 mill+ in the metropolitan area). Typical Dallas attitude. I know its hard to believe, but yes, someone from outside the metroplex who didnt make the trek all the way from Lewisville, America decided to attend North Texas- by choice. Its about Vince, not UT. Its a great athlete that happened to attend school at UT. I know its hard to believe he wouldnt choose NT, but he didnt. I didnt say a word about UT. SO WHAT? isnt that what we want for all of our athletes at NT? Seriously, am I mistaken, or do we want all of our athletes to enjoy the highest level of success they can achieve? You are absolutely right, as much as it pains me to agree with anything in this diatribe of yours. There are countless people who lead noble lives who never get a fat paycheck. But what are you saying? If Patrick Cobbs enjoyed that level of success (you know, the kid from OK that nobody gave a chance, blah blah blah) you'd get on here and be the voice for those that have no voice, the champion who speaks for the ones that live their lives without recognition? How noble of you. Spare me. This is nothing more than the typical "I hate UT" p*nis envy we see on this board all the time- and it makes us look so small-time. It isnt fawning. Its admiration for someone who is the best at what they do. Much like Tiger Woods, Lance Armstrong, Michael Jordan, blah blah blah. I dont care if UT wins another game for the rest of eternity, but I respect the hell out of the someone who can seemingly carry a team on his back with a refuse to lose mentality. Thats something special. I have respect for a kid that came from the same "trash dump" as I, you know, "the hometown kid". Take off your "I hate anyone who is in a better position than I" glasses and try to look at it objectively. VY is a story of success.
  4. well, in 2003, they had us at #42, cant say im sad about that. I think we got a couple of top 25 votes that year, and with a win in the bowl, might have snuck into the highly-coveted #25 spot.
  5. no offense, but get over it. VY grew up in a crappy part of Houston, had a dad who was never there, and used his God-given talent to become one of the greatest college QB's of all time instead of choosing to waste his life away in drugs, gangs, etc. I dont understand the negative tones in your comments. Seems like a great story of success to me, whether he went to Satan U or not.
  6. exactly. If Baylor was in the sunbelt, they would have LESS attendance than us. If UT, ATM, OU, or TT came to town, we would easily average 28-30k a year. I consider it a success if we can average 20k this year playing the spares of D-1A football.
  7. ding ding ding too bad "The Voice of Reason" is already taken, you could make a strong case in support of bearing said handle.
  8. 'baseless' would be an understatement. Class wars? Personally, I resent that comparison. My brother attends SMU. I attended North Texas. Big deal. Our parents income is irrelevant, as is this thread. Honestly, I agree with most of the SMU posters thoughts, so get a rope if you must. I want to beat SMU because they are a regional rival, and because it will be all over the DMN (and by that I mean several pages back behind whatever happens in the UT/OSU game). I am not blue collar. Most people I knew at North Texas are not "blue collar". Who cares if I worked or if I didnt work through college. I dont. And I dont care if anyone else did. Everyone has different circumstances. No offense to our SMU friends, but a W in this game would not be considered a "great win in NT history" by any means. It would be a good start for our season.
  9. I look at it this way... beating SMU doesnt really matter to anyone outside the metroplex, whereas beating Texas would likely be of NATIONAL interest. I'll take the latter, with an inevitable $300 bar tab on 6th street later that evening...
  10. love it. I guess it goes without saying, thats the kind of attitude Id like to see in all of our players!
  11. Im pretty sure thats what I just said. Talented athletes will beat a gimmicky a offense most of the time. Case in point, OU and Texas' defensive dominance over Tech. Now, what brings the players and money into a program? Exciting schemes, WINNING GAMES, etc. I didnt say it couldnt help (it has certainly woken Tech and their alumni) I just said it wasnt a fix-all.
  12. cool promo idea... Im not sold on the spread being the fix all for every aspiring program, though I agree its certainly exciting to watch. I dont really care for Baylor using a similar all-green uniform and helmet.
  13. perhaps the title of this thread should be "more North Texas P#^!$ Envy..." who cares? they are a nationally recognized brand. I think it would be awesome to be in that position. And I assure you nobody would complain if it was us.
  14. Yes, Fran will be fired. Maybe Dickey would be fired. And 'Hell No' to Fran coming to NT. Every person I have met that played for him has nothing positive to say about him. In my opinion, he rode LT to success at TCU, and has really done nothing since then. There is no excuse for being at A&M, having the recruits available to you that they do, and not being able to get m ore than one winning season. And the way he handled the bama thing was really lousy.
  15. ha, that doesnt bother anyone on this board, I assure you.
  16. I think the all-white Texas uniforms are awesome. Texas fans should too, after all, thats how they have dressed for the last 2 Rose Bowl victorys and a Big 12 championship. I also like Penn State's helmet/uniform. simple, yet unmistakable.
  17. hey maybe you guys can score some of those super-sweet unis that Oregon uses to burn the retinas of anyone who attempts to watch their games!
  18. I think you might have missed the point of the joke. Id say something about Texas State students getting a degree in River Flotation and Recreation, but you'd probably feel the need to inform me that they do not in fact offer a BA in River Flotation and Recreation (as per the website), and then I'd feel dumb. again. And I dont really care one way or the other about the University of Texas Wannabees at San Marcos on the San Marcos River not Comal or Guadalupe, or "UTWSMSMRCG" if you were going to put it on a ring...
  19. someone probably does this every year, thought it would be fun... Ive always been a fan of Michigan's Helmet Texas Tech's all black unis
  20. I dont really care what color their shirts are, Im just glad to see people getting excited about NT. I didnt see any of that during my freshman orientation- and that was in '99. We've come a long way in 7 years, its good to see it coming along so quickly.
  21. So if I understand the SMU poster's point, he's saying that because the record is heavily lopsided in their favor, they dont consider us a rival. SMU's all-time record against a couple of their "top" rivals: Texas: 22-47-4 Notre Dame: 3-10-0 Great point. Someone should tell them the SWC no longer exists...
  22. what is the point of this thread?
  23. Cant decide if this is a candidate for the 'understatement' or the 'obvious post' of the year award. I would like to see NT play SMU and TCU every year. If NT could get into C-USA, that might be easier to schedule. We could have an actual battle for the metroplex every year, which would HAVE to garner media attention for all parties involved. However I understand TCU and SMU already have a named rivalry established I read one of your posts on the SMU board. I dont think anyone was in anyway comparing the magnitude of Texas/OU/A&M rivalry to SMU/NT/TCU, rather it was done as a relative comparison. I think we all know which rivalry has more tradition, more national attention, and more title implications. (hint, its doesnt feature any private schools...).
  24. SMU will have a good team this year and it probably still wont be enough for much better than 3rd in C-USA West, as I think UH and Tulsa have to be the odds on favorite for that division. For that reason, I will consider a victory over SMU at Fouts to be far more significant this season than it would have been 2 or 3 years ago. I am really happy to have a couple C-USA teams on the schedule this year, and I hoping like hell I dont get let down like last year. Anyone getting upset about people not taking us serious is hilarious. We finished 2-9 in the worst division in D1 football. Ha, I find it difficult to take us serious at times with our OOC showings last year (and the one before, and the one before, and...). In truth, I dont know what our team will look like next year. Im hoping for a tremendous resurgence, but I fear depth will be an issue for our lines against all of our OOC opponenets. Either way, I cant wait for this game. Its a family affair now (with a brother at SMU) so we are bringing up the whole gang!
  25. LOVE THIS IDEA.
