  1. what?
  2. well Im probably going to do both. I cant think of a better way to spend a saturday than at a couple of college football games. Hell I may even go down to San Marcos after the opener to catch the Texas State opener. But in response to the original question, I have no idea. I guess they could have done it for the La Tech game, but maybe they wanted to schedule a win (or perhaps more accurately, not schedule a possible non-conference blow out)
  3. ive got an F-150 with a V8, and I actually get like 17 on the highway. It usually costs me about $100 to drive to dallas and back... about the same is it costs to fly!
  4. haha in my experience, the former are generally gracious winners and losers, while the latter are usually Texas State students or bandwagoners who never went to college.
  5. 0-5, then we'll go 6-1 the rest of the way, which should be good for a New Orleans bowl berth in the "competitive" SBC. Thats DD ball at its finest.
  6. And that would be the longest headline in the history of ESPN! Hope you are right, but I think this will be a disaster. Our offense is, well, offensive (from what I can tell by reading about the practices) and is guaranteed to turn the ball over a couple times which translates to quick scores for the bad guys. At least our defense will get to rest. Chizik is going to have his guys blitzing from every angle- hope we got that screen pass down- so the run game will flounder without a passing attack. And by flounder, I mean "be non-existent". I hope I am wrong, as I bought 4 tix, and will be dragging family and friends along (support group). I want to see some WW in there running around. Anything that adds another dimension to our offensive attack. When its all said and done, at least I'll get to see the unveiling of most ridiculous scoreboard ever! So thats something.
  7. and as we can all attest, very few things are more uncomfortable than an "improperly-administered shocker"
  8. 25.. and Id be content staying at this age for the next 10-15 years! ha
  9. And who in Dallas "buys" a BMW? Didnt you know you can LEASE a 3 series, live in uptown or Addison and make everyone THINK you have arrived- for half the cost? But seriously, you DO make good points.
  10. and I am very excited about this! I didnt mean to sound so negative, but that stuff really gets under my skin. Most of people I knew that transferred to NT from Tech talk about how much harder the business courses were at NT than Tech, about how much more they learned. And yet, the other day I overhear some guy at the airport talking to a kid that was attending Tech saying his accounting firm "only considers public school graduates from Texas, Texas A&M and Texas Tech". First of all, the guy is obviously an idiot. Beyond that, the underlying sentiment remains. The first two schools I can somewhat understand- both have nationally ranked programs. But, Tech? Please. I think it has a lot to do with athletics and familiarity. It's basic marketing. Do you go with the brand of which you have never heard, or do you go with the name you see everywhere? I expect a lot out of NT because I got a lot out of NT. I dont even know if that makes sense.
  11. So very true. Frustratingly so. Hell, even Texas State garners more respect and recognition than NT (outside of the Dallas area) these days. Texas State has raised their admission standards significantly and has completely redefined who they are with their name change. Im so tired of explaining that NT is the 4th biggest school (until Texas State passes us) in Texas to people in a city that is only 280 miles away from Denton. there is no reason for people to have never heard of a school that big that is just down the highway. I hope a lot of this changes. I hope the new President continues what Pohl started. Well said, BonfireBrian. And I also am a donor, season ticket holder, and MGC member.
  12. anyone know how well those work? From what I remember, Denton is like a black hole for TV reception which almost forced you to get cable.
  13. after reading Illuvius' assessment, one question comes to mind. Is our defense that good, or is our offense that bad? That seems like a lot of picks, fumbles, etc resulting in big gains (or points) the other way. oh, and thanks to everyone who attended and gave us a report! much appreciated
  14. As stated before, this Center/QB exchange is a horrible problem to have against a team like UT. Yes I expect us to play that game ti win like any other game. It's also going to be embarassing for our home opener if it doesnt get fixed. This makes me feel not so good. I believe we will see WW as the starter (if he remains healthy) before its all said and done. Im disappointed he could not practice today. Hopefully he will get his shot in the upcoming scrimmages (I assume there will be more...)
  15. Well I guess we get 5 games these days so I will go with home and homes with: Texas TCU SMU* Houston/Rice* alternating years (get some exposure in Houston) Texas A&M *under current conference alignments
  16. I think "time" is the best answer I can come up with. Takes time to roll all this stuff out. Other than that, I dont know. I do know many people that would love to have a chrome Eagle emblem on their vehicle. Id like to see it on all the things you listed. I think these logos definately have staying power. They look great, and the Kelley green really looks nice. Hopefully we will see more of it, soon!
  17. Im hoping to hear good things out of the scrimmage Wednesday
  18. great attitude. Cant blame you too much though, havent been shown anything over the past 8 years to suggest otherwise. Yes, having problems getting the ball from C to QB with a team that has one of the quickest, most athletic D-lines in the nation will represent a problem, and is probably good for at least one turnover. The fact people are even questioning whether we should "try to win" this game is insulting to our players. Yeah, I have never understood this philosophy, assuming this in fact DD's method. The left over method is great for 1AA teams, and we have had some success, but at some point you have to go after the guys you want now, show everyone you are serious about being a top 25 contender. Show them that you believe in the program. Anyways, this is the same tired beating of a dead horse I have done all year. sorry! There is more talent out there than ever before. Parity is a wonderful thing for schools like NT
  19. agreed. Id be willing to make the trip...
  20. This will kill us in the UT game. Their defense is so fast, it is crucial we get this down before the first snap Sept 2nd. Congrats to Higgs
  21. greatness! reminds me of that campaign an LSU and UT fan had to put a billboard up in SoCal of the "one-peat"... anyone know if that ever came to fruition?
  22. Actually, it is the sunbelt that is the problem. This wouldnt even be a discussion if we were in C-USA. It doesnt matter if it is 20 years down the line, I dont think the Sunbelt will EVER be considered anything more than some awkward phase in between 1A and 1AA. With schools named "Florida Atlantic" and "International", it will always be viewed as a stepchild. Who in Texas cares about these schools? Better yet, if we were in C-USA, would you care about them? I know I wouldnt. The difference between NT and the rest of the belt is that there was actually a time when we were competitive with the top programs in that nation. We've been around for a long time, we arent just another directional start-up program. Correct me if I am wrong, but the rest of the belt cannot make that same claim. I expect more. TCU got an exclusion to the rule because they have a really good program, have been called a "BCS buster" for a couple years now, and have a draw a decent crowd (they have a name). NT draws about 0 interest in Houston. Growing up here, I hadnt ever even heard of NT until I started looking at schools, and I sure didnt know it was the 4th biggest school in the state. I admit it has improved, but we still have a ways to go in the Houston market. We have no leverage to get another bowl tie-in, because we cant even beat out the gaggle of spares in our own conference and lets not even discuss our lack-luster OOC performance. Win games, people notice. Its that simple. Do the best with what you have been given, people will take notice, you will have leverage. We have had great schedules the last 2 seasons and done nothing. I hope this season is better, I wont be holding my breath.
  23. I thought it was a pretty funny writeup, especially the parts about ULM... I mean, it sucks, but there is a lot of truth to the things that they wrote. We just need to get back to owning the conference, start winning games out of conference and not even worry about what the rest of the belt is doing.
  24. agree with your sentiments, FFR. My thoughts exactly. We just have to win. That is the easiest way to have any sort of leverage.
  25. Yes, he should be considered. No, it will not happen. and yes, I have flip-flopped on my position last week, which was a definitive 'no'.
