Is SMU a make/break game for NT program and Dickey
Eagle1855 replied to NT80's topic in Mean Green Football
ha, thats actually pretty funny. I don't think beating SMU will have as profound an impact on the program as losing. Losing proves we are right there with Rice at the bottom of Div 1A programs in Texas- and I'm not all that confident we could beat Rice. U of H had a hell of a time last weekend. Losing this weekend says "nothing's changed". -
they both hold the same thing.

good one! now let's work on synonyms: =

hooray for the simile! Your parents would be proud!

haha, I was thinking "man, thats a good looking logo" Hey, at least we didnt lose to a 1AA, thats a far less-forgiveable offense.
-
yeah, that was BS, but we got away with a few as well- like that no call on obvious pass interference... I dont remember the DB, I just remember thinking, "I cant believe they didnt call that..." not making excuses, but it was the ref's first game of the season as well, and the game was well in-hand at that point. again, not saying its ok, but maybe that explains it. If not, there's always the conspiracy theory angle...

ohhh snap!

agree with Pollock. also, when we do win, please do not storm the field.

gotta admit, pretty funny! SMU ROSTER

DMN DD looking for consistency from QB's
Eagle1855 replied to OldTimer's topic in Mean Green Football
yes, stick around a couple months and you can become as jaded and delusional as the rest of us! seriously though, I dont know what more DD needs to see. One guy went 5-6 leading the team down the field on an 80 yard drive for a touchdown. The other guy didnt. seems easy to me. -
i dont know, depends on who scores the most points. If we can get even one more than them, I like our chances.

implying this has anything to do with sportsmanship is absurd. there is no such thing as a level playing field in college football or in life. By your logic, it is unfair for UT to have faster players as well, since that gives them an advantage. Maybe they should offer us a few of the second string players, so we can enjoy the depth that obviously gave them the edge last saturday. Or maybe NT could get hip to this technology and work on getting some for our players. There have got to be better reasons to start a UT hate thread than this...

Thanks to the NT Exes, Athletic Department, and the others who helped put on the tailgate function in Austin. It was awesome to turn on to Trinity and see the Mean Green tents set up, complete with food and drinks. (mimosas, bloody mary's, and screw drivers were a huge plus!). Woke up that morning and turned on channel 8 (while waiting for the women to get ready) and they were interviewing a few people who work for the University at the tailgate function. Great visibility. The reporter they sent to interview everyone looked like she had never done an interview in her LIFE. Turns out she was an SMU grad, which means it was probably her first time to associate with lower life forms (such as a NT grad), so I guess its understandable. Anyways, got a chance to speak with Dr Bataille at the tailgate event and I am really excited about her being Dr Pohls successor. Total class, really sharp. She's going to put NT on the map, nationally. She also understands where athletics fits in that process. Our average SAT's are up on incoming freshmen (while the national average has declined), and we also just took our largest class of incoming freshmen this past year. Lots of good things going on around Denton...

except USC wouldnt struggle with GT. Notre Dame will be exposed. Thats why FSN had them at 18th, and that's probably the most accurate ranking I have seen for them.

I agree, but be careful saying negative things about Hall on here (though I completely agree with you). Hall was great at managing the game and not throwing it away. To me, starting Wilson is a no-brainer. Went for 5 of 6 on the drive, played well with Jamario. They seemed to feed off one another. QB controversies are never good when they spill into the regular season. It has been said "if you think you have 3 guys that could start at QB, that means you might have none" Im on the Wilson train, and I'll be on it all season. Start him saturday. He earned it.
-
i like that we arent favored. If Wilson and Jamario play together like they did on the first drive of the second half against, we will score some points, we will move the ball all day. Our defense played as good as could be expected given the fact 14 of those points came off of short field turnovers and the offense gave them no help with constant 3 and outs. The fact UT's average start was on their own 45 didnt do them any favors. Take that with some heat and overmatched line play depth and you have all the makings of a blowout. SMU doenst have near the speed of UT's defense. Their offense managed 3 points and a few turnovers against a middle of the road defense in Lubbock. This SHOULD be a closely matched game.

Ok, that would make sense. We couldnt figure that out (at the game). If so, I retract the YMCA comment. Still jumpin if Meager starts...
-
Woody should be the starter for the SMU game, plain and simple. I still dont understand why he was taken out after driving the team 80 years and putting points on the board. "Hey great job on doing what you are supposed to do, now lets give Matt a chance". I love YMCA football. Oh if Meager is in there Saturday, Im going to find the highest part of Fouts and jump.

All very true. That's why we will win in Norman next year. Mark it. Peterson will leave. Who will be their QB? Good things on the horizon. Now back to THIS year. Great write up, Illuvius. I hope you are right! Either way, tomorrow cant get here soon enough...
-
yes, as Georgia discovered last year, they can play some ball. The interesting thing to see will be how well they handle the high ranking, high expectations, as they are no longer the underdog. Also, Louisville is a pretty good squad as well, and isnt getting much press
-
which teams do you think will play for it all in Jan 2007? Im going to go out on a long flimsy limb and predict Auburn to take it all... My darkhorse is Cal. I think its a pretty wide-open race, however, which should make for a fun year.
-
if anyone has one extra ticket to the game tomorrow, I'd be willing to buy it for face value... got an extra coming, got to find her a ticket! Thanks

I imagine the DB's will have a lot of tackles, so Im gonna go with Weathers, however I am hoping it wil be Jamario.

FW*Telegram NT tries to avoid mind games
Eagle1855 replied to OldTimer's topic in Mean Green Football
I dont know but it obviously doesnt work. This whole us against the world thing is cute, but it isnt reality. Our football team has as much support or more than I have ever seen (keep in mind I am 25--- and most of our students are younger)... so I dont know what the freaking problem is. fact is, nobody takes us serious in this game. Thats the angle he should work. They were talking about the game on the radio here in Houston this morning wondering at what point you take the starters out if you are Mack Brown- the 2nd qtr or the 3rd. That is the kind of disrespect I feed my players. Id tell them to go out there and hit them in the f-n mouth and silence everyone that was saying UT's practice squad would be more competitive than NT.
