I know, I would too. Geez, everyone is a tad sensitive. couple 0-5, 1-4 starts will do that to ya I guess. In the spirit of this thread (which isnt to be taken as an anti-MGC stance, rather the opposite), I added a derisive response to the original question posted "what reasons" meant to highlight what could happen if people quit supporting D1 athletics, which as you stated has happened before.

DRC: Lean Green, NT offense dead last in 1A
Eagle1855 replied to OldTimer's topic in Mean Green Football
precisely. hell, you could have 2 or 3 pitches, 2 pitches and a pass , or any number of combinations on almost every play! Then, Dickey could throw them a curveball on 3rd and 15 (not that I anticipate ever having a 3rd and long situation in my new-fangled offensive scheme) and run the beloved draw play up the middle for most likely a touchdown. They wouldnt even know what hit em. -

DRC: Lean Green, NT offense dead last in 1A

I think we should have 2-3 QBs on the field at all time. We could easily run a quadruple option attack that would have pretty much everyone on the defense guessing, and would basically be unstoppable. Trust me. -
Thank heavens you are here, otherwise RV and the rest of the admin wouldn't know what to do. I heard they come over here for advice every time they are in a jam. Afterall, we know more about coaching, running an athletics department, marketing, branding, running a public University, tailgating, politics, tortilla-tossing, and boxing offensive coordinators than anyone this side of the globe! If you post it, people will comment. Thats kind of the idea behind a public forum such as this. Thank Al Gore for the medium and free speech for the right to do so.

Yeah, I mean how pathetic would it be to blow a homecoming game to a team you should beat right after suffering a humiliating loss the week before? Sincerely, Michigan State

Will we be on ESPNs Bottom 10 this week?
Eagle1855 replied to GreenTiger_OriginalAcct's topic in Mean Green Football
can you think 10 worse teams? we just got blown out at home by a might-as-well-be 1AA team. where would you rank us? -
I could be mistaken, but I was of the opinion being a Mean Green Club member supported more than just football- it supports all our athletics. They will break a $250 into nine payments.

The first correspondence I've received from
Eagle1855 replied to gangrene's topic in Mean Green Football
I LOVE college football, and I love college athletics, but every single thing she said in this letter (especially the last line) is far more important than our football record. Dont get me wrong, I think athletics is an important part of any university (as I maintain the opinion we should excel in everything, and that it is a window through which the outside world sees us), but it isn't the most important thing. I don't think the two are mutually exclusive, but given the choice, I'd take academic excellence. Hearing we have record freshmen classes with higher SAT scores than ever before is a GREAT thing that should excite everyone who is attending or has recieved a degree from UNT. -
you started it! haha, the nature of this thread lends itself to baseless optimism. I dont know how good or bad our team is, or how bad or terrible your team is (see what I did there?), im just trying to rile up some conversation because I love to argue. It's truly a shame anyone has to lose on saturday. I wish everyone could leave with a shiny trophy and a warm heart, but the nature of this business just doesnt allow it. So I can only hope that yall extend your "oh-fer" streak, and we get back on track to making our annual bowl game

you're right. I just like to hear myself talk (and read what I write)... after looking over all the relevent statistics, and running it through a program I have developed (with the help of TAMS students and a highly trained chimp), I've revised my score predictions. The Ben E Keith Battle of Offensive Ineptitude (BEKBOI) should yield a score of NT - 6 (one touchdown, and an inevitable missed extra point) MTSU - 5 (safety, field goal)
-
I love the (baseless) optimism from MTSU fans. As a NT fan, I can appreciate it. But comparing a big win over a 1AA lay-up to beating an SMU team that also leveled a 1AA team as well as the defending Sunbelt champ 55-9, doesnt really prove anything. The FIU game may prove to be an impressive victory when its all said and done, as they may be one of the better 0-4 teams in the country. Congrats on that defensive showing against OU- it was truly impressive keeping them below 60. I guess if we wanted to compare big 12 disasters, I'll point you to our 56-7 endeavor against the reigning national champs. I mean, at one point that game was 28-7 in the 3rd qtr after an 80 yard drive against one of best defenses in the country. We also gave up 14+ points on quick, stupid turnovers. so what? I dont know about the comment on Akron's defense, I was under the impression they had a pretty decent squad (ask NC State, who knocked off BC). Certainly better than that of most of the sunbelt. Without special teams failure, that game is a lot closer. I'll agree with you on one point- NT and MTSU are no OU. That is an astute observation. That being said, MTSU is no NT, and we this game big. Again. And just for fun, I'll go with: NT - 24 MTSU - 6

title kinda sounds like an "alternative lifestyle" magazine... not that I would know anything about that... not that there is anything wrong with it... eh nevermind

Favorite Bonfire & Homecoming Photo thread.
Eagle1855 replied to FirefightnRick's topic in Mean Green Football
was this the one that was so hot it started melting the paint of cars parked on the bonnie brae side of the radisson? I thought I remembered them telling everyone to move their cars that were parked over there. Either way, the 2004 one was one of my personal faves as well. lots of people turned out, was a great time -
as is evidenced by this thread going 4 pages and counting...

There were 25k at the SMU game, Im sure this was just a typo. Half of C-USA could have ran the 'belt in the opening years. RV changed gameday atmosphere. DD's OOC record speaks for itself. If we were in C-USA, he would have been gone 4 years ago. And I do support NT, with my $$, my attendance, and my time- regardless of the W's and L's, or who is coaching. wins just make it easier
-
I agree with you here, but I also maintain winning the sun belt is similar to being the thinnest kid at fat camp. You have to be competitive in games against the La Tech's, Tulsa's and Akrons of the world.
-
agree 100%, just found myself laughing at the fact there have already been 2 180's on the guy in 3 games... I guess I dont see what everyone else sees. I still think SMU could have beaten us and that they may deserve as much credit beating themselves as we have beaten them. They dropped a wide open TD pass that could have changed the momentum of the entire game. Several personal fouls killed their drives (or kept ours moving). We were still running the stupid draw play up the middle for little to no gain. SMU was bad, but nobody cares when the final score shows up 24-6 over a must-win. Make no mistake- Im glad we won. My point is, this isnt a good team- yet. Tulsa is. Akron is. Whether it gels into one later in the season remains to be seen. THAT DEPENDS ON COACHING. I still think 2007 is our breakout year. Not trying to be a downer, just being realistic. We havent had any offensive production. The defense is the ONLY reason we didnt have a repeat of 2005 against Tulsa.
-
... many will be singing the praises of DD. So, how many will come back on here a week later burning effigies after we lose to MTSU at home? just thought a satirical exercise on hypotheticals would be fun, this beautiful Wednesday morning!

Id probably prefer UCF over Memphis, if I were a Big East school. The Big East is already a LOADED basketball conference, and the exposure in florida would be far more valuable than any in Tennessee, especially with Louisville just up the road. Either way, I cant imagine C-USA taking another school besides NT- with the exception of Troy. For recruiting's sake, NT seems to be a better alternative. Its a large school, huge market, facilities wil be on par with anyone in the nation. It makes perfect sense to me.

we could probably just use Baylor's old ones...
