I don't know, but I had that same thought this morning when I heard them interview him on the radio here in Houston. The confidence he has in his team, his abilities, and his coach was inspiring. It was humorous at one point when he was talking about how he hates getting tackled. Im looking forward to going to the C-USA champ game this friday and seeing him in action. Kid has like 10+ yards per carry on the season! If he gets 15 carries in the game, he will set an NCAA record for YPC on a season. I understand the Briles comparison to a degree, but he still spent 3 years as a coordinator under a pretty good coach out there in Lubbock. Thats my major concern. Its been over 12 years since Dodge did anything related to the college game. THERE IS MORE TO IT THAN X's and O's If its Dodge, I hope he lives up to everything and more. Im just a skeptic!

agreed! I have full confidence that is what RV is doing. Thats why I dont understand all this talk about a highschool coach, but I digress. Go after anyone and everyone. See who is interested! UTEP and UCF are proof, you never know whats gonna happen!

Im sure he will be contacted, but I am not a fan of him either. I doubt a sun belt team would be the "right place, thing" he is looking for. The guy has been to several Big 12 Championship games, Rosebowl, etc... I just cant imagine it happening, even it was desireable

I cant speak for everyone, but I think we had a more talented team, with inept lame duck coaches. I say we should win every game against a sun belt team, but I have high expectations

well, nothing really. As a 25 year old, I am a big fan of the cougar. I was just thinking that she might not have as much of a kicking leg as she did in the early 90s, thats all.

that's not going be as favorable a matchup as we might have thought! Hard to believe it, but they were two points away from playing for the C-USA title this year I'm looking forward to it. Its a big game for us, though I cant say I ever thought I'd be saying that!

yeah, winning 9 or more games every year, national championships, conference championships, etc... all gets old after a while. I wouldnt be surprised to see Brown or Carroll's name in the hat before to long....

I don't think this firing was ever going to be a clean break. Firing Dickey was like breaking up with a crazy girlfriend. Like, you always knew when the time came it was going to be messy, you just never know to what extent they are going to go to prove their point. And they'll tell you all the reasons in the world why you should hang on, but in the end, you know deep down inside its the right thing to do- no matter how many good times you might have had along the way.

wont matter if they travel well or not, Rice is representing C-USA in the NO Bowl should be a good game. I like the new bowl rules a lot as well... just wish we had had a better season! Still not happy about the Texas Bowl situation.

I think its funny that people assume that his (admittedly unparalled) success at the highschool level all but assures him of being a can't miss at the DIVISION 1A level- when research (history) suggests the contrary. For the record, I dont think SMU is paying us any mind (rather, as much as many on this board seem to think) in this coaching search, and I do NOT believe any firing of Bennett has to do with North Texas or Dodge. But I tend to shy away from conspiracy theories...

thanks for the post! this could be a really good hire, in my opinion. Guy has obviously been around a successful program for some time, excellent connections to the highschool community, and should be able to draw in the DFW area

yeah anyone that wouldn't take Shula is crazy/and or delusional over the state of our program. No offense intended by that, I just think its insane to not have interest in a guy that coached ANY team to 10-2 in the SEC. 6-6 isn't all that terrible either, in that conference. Care to guess as to the kind of beat-down that 6-6 bama team might lay on ole NT? Honestly, Im surprised they didnt go after Chizik. I think that the odds of us getting a Shula-type here in in our program's current state and the sunbelt conference are somewhere between us accepting a bid to the Rose Bowl and hell freezing over.

Agreed. I think that represents a nightmare of a game for Texas, if thats the case (assuming Arkansas loses to Florida, which Im not convinced Flordia can beat Arkansas). From what I read, the Gator Bowl may snag Texas leaving the loser of the Big12 game to the Cotton Bowl. Apparently every 4 years the Gator Bowl gets to select a team from the Big 12 ahead of the Cotton in some arrangement they have with the conference, with that agreement falling on this year. That would likely send A&M to the Holiday Bowl and Tech to the Alamo to play Iowa.
