  1. this is great news for the cowboys. In my opinion, Parcells refusal to adapt to the way the game is played these days and his disinterest in developing a QB have hurt the Cowboys the last few years. Found this off SI.com. looks like the Arkansas connections are very much alive and well Purely a rumor, but interesting nonetheless. Bob Stoops is another intriguing name. I have heard that the Cowboys job is one of the only NFL jobs in which he would have interest.
  2. that i do not know, but will say that I was somewhat alarmed by a different pregnant woman drinking beers next to me earlier during the saints game and the fact that there were also several children running around the bar. I mean come on!
  3. great games. I was rooting for Smith and Dungy, as I think both are class acts. Watched the first game with a ton of Saint's fans at Woodrows in Houston. Many of them used to live in New Orleans so it was neat seeing how passionate they were about their team- though I cant say I have seen a grown man crying in the bar because their team lost (although I came really close when Pujols hit that grand slam in the bottom of the 9th in the 2005 NLCS...). Hopped over to Champps for the Colts/Pats. When we arrived we had to wait for a table because some woman had gone into LABOR in the women's restroom
  4. Colt isn't your prototypical QB either, and wasn't as highly regarded as any of the QBs that Texas has had since Major, but he plays with a lot of heart and he doesn't make a lot of mistakes (he's smart). If his brother is cut from the same cloth, I'd take a chance on a guy like that. 4.6 isn't bad if he has really good hands! not sure how big he is. has he been recruited elsewhere?
  5. why would he whisper them? he broadcasted them to the whole world every chance he got while he was here.
  6. But seriously, I wish Dickey the best. Our luck, he comes up with some mastermind new offense he had been engineering and hadn't yet had the time to implement- then we fired him..... nnnnah... but I still wish him well.
  7. We wouldn't turn that down. The people on this board aren't the ones who make that call, thank GOD. I assure you one of Rick's goals is to get us into a better conference. Who cares what the SBC record is against C-USA this year? I'd still rather go see NT play Houston, Rice, So Miss, SMU, or Tulsa over Troy, Middle Trailer State or F_U any day, as would the average college football fan and Texas resident.
  8. eh, sorry, hard to read sarcasm on the internet.. I usually detect it, but the threw me off! anyways, i love it! Seeing sooner and horn fans growing tired of hearing about NT is a GREAT thing. Now they know how we've all felt for the last 10 years.
  9. that thread is actually HILARIOUS! whats the big deal?
  10. In my opinion, this is the best Uni we have had in a while. I love the all green at home. you want to be the mean green, you gotta be green. BTW, I like the uniforms you have put together. I love black as an accent color for green. Looks mean! I also like the eagle on a helmet. I'm not sure about this, but I imagine historically we've had an eagle of some sort on the helmet more than any other logo/wordmark. Whatever it is, I just wish we could pick something and stick with it. All this logo changing business makes it hard to have any real "brand"
  11. thats the first thing that came to mind when I read this article. wonder if they have any good traditions UNT-D could use?
  12. well, they were one point away from playing in the C-USA championship, I think that would have been an attainable goal. I personally would never be pleased with a 7-6 season and call that "as good as its gonna get" at a school like Rice, but thats just me. And we'll just have to agree to disagree on the "step-up thing", as Rice is one of the better academic institutions in the nation, has a huge media market and a wealth of talent in its backyard. Graham showed in ONE season Rice could be a player. Meanwhile, Kragthorpe's Tulsa team, with all the advantages one could have in the hotbed that is Tulsa, OK lost 4 of their last 5 games (3 of 4 in a mediocre C-USA league). So what if Graham thinks it's better? I don't always take what a coach says to be gospel, otherwise I would still be saying North Texas has one of the toughest situations in America. Personally, I think if he had stayed at Rice a couple more years, he could have hopped to an actual big program with no problem, for MORE money, and no one would have questioned it.
  13. thats a very black and white, all-business way to look at it. I guess things like loyalty, keeping your word, finishing the job, etc dont get factored into the equation? Is there no differentiation in the position of a head coach of a college team and a Marketing Director or CEO? Just thinking out loud, feel free to contest And I still maintain going from Rice to Tulsa is a lateral move AT BEST.
  14. totally agree. even before this deal with Rice, a friend of mine and I were talking about this. It's certainly got out of hand. I don't know what the answer is, however.
  15. Im on a tear today... I agree with you, it was a perfect storm. It needed to happen and it did. I think that OSU getting whipped like that helped the non-BCS cause even more. BSU's win has opened the door for the non-BCS schools a little more for no other reason than it has convinced the MEDIA that it is possible. Many non-BCS programs in the nation can now say "why not us?". Anyone care to take a stab at the over/under on weeks before we start seeing "who will be the Boise State of 2007?" articles?
  16. you're right. I bow down to your superior grasp on the English language and college football acumen. Regardless of your Devil's advocate stance, the facts I laid out ARE in fact the biggest reason why it's a big deal. Whether OU was "actually" a top ten team or not is irrelevant. At the time they played BSU, they were.
  17. I'll play Devil's advocate as well. the reason it was a big deal, is the fact that had the Oregon game been called correctly, OU would have been a one-loss team and would have been in the hunt for the national title as well. Whether they would have stayed ahead of a 1 loss Florida team or not, we'll never know. All we know is, it's happened before. THAT's why people say the system is flawed and why the BSU win was significant.
  18. It's a done deal. The way it all went down was kinda shady as well. When you take everything into account, its a raw deal for Rice no matter how you slice it. Even worse, it's to a team that is in the same division in the same conference. And 1.1 mill for 8 years- I promise you it was about the money. The family thing is just icing. I wont even get into the Houston/Tulsa thing for raising a family as that's just an exercise in futility on this board.
  19. well it might have been, but with Todd Graham back in the mix up here for Tulsa, the scramble for recruits didn't get any easier.
  20. I agree. I feel bad for Rice. Graham came in, sold everyone on Rice football, got the boosters excited, even got the city behind it in their first bowl trip in ages- then takes off for a LATERAL move at best after ONE YEAR. There is no loyalty left in college football except that of the almighty dollar. This has been a rough off-season to watch , regarding the coaching carousel. Well, except ours of course!
  21. where the hell is that baseball program we've been waiting on?
  22. Yes, I do. Who knows what was being taught? Maybe we dont have any QBs, maybe we have a couple viable options. Dickey seemed to be in LOVE with Meager, though I cannot figure out for the life of me why. Makes me wonder if there is something wrong with Wilson (between the ears). And Phillips? I have yet to see anything out of him come gameday, save one decent half a couple years ago. True he has looked good in practice, but Saturdays is when it matters. Wasson hasnt done much of anything to impress me since coming out. I understand he spent a lot of time behind Barrick Nealy, but he is still a 5'11" QB that didnt get much done against an unimpressive Southland slate last year. Pardon my lack of enthusiasm. In fact, I think many of the guys coming to visit NT in the upcoming weeks will have a larger upside than this guy.
