  1. Hands-down the best site for all things related to historical college football data.
  2. Yeah. I'd feel better if FIU was the road game and UTEP was the home game. I think there are too many factors working against us to do much better than 5-7. But like I said, if they go on the road and somehow pull out the upset, 6-6 is very realistic. And I think 6-6 represents a salvaged season, in some way, shape, form. as that would mean we won (at least) the last four games of the season... IF's and BUT's though...
  3. But if we happen to win out, it's some form of salvaging the season, right? I mean, I don't think we'll beat UTEP on the road... but I can see wins against FIU and UTSA. But if we do escape El Paso with a win, six wins makes us eligible for a bowl game. Whether or not we'd get one is another matter entirely, but hey... it's something. And that's something.
  4. Kind of like the inexact science of recruiting, drafting, etc and so on and so forth ad infinitum....
  5. Seconded. That part of the country is our regular get-away destination. One of the things I like about living in SE Texas is the close proximity to southern Louisiana. It's also one of the things I don't really like about living in SE Texas. Funny how that works... If it has to be a former Sun Belt friend, ULL is my choice above all others (and that might be the preference of Southern Miss, too... though I don't know how La Tech would feel abou it). But who knows... maybe the conference would look at someone like Georgia Southernm who's sitting at 7-2 on the season with close losses to GT and NC State....
  6. You don't need to make them a memember of the conference to do so. Southern Louisiana and the Gulf Coast-area in general is a great place to spend a long weekend. Some of the best food in the country, no doubt.
  7. I think most people want to give their kids and family the best life they can. So good on you. Truly. I also think there are plenty of well-developed neighborhoods in actual cities for grown-ups and kids alike that offer culture, high-quality food, and streets lined with houses that don't look like they were stamped out of a mold. Frisco offers a squeaky-clean version of it on the cheap, by comparison -- and probably has better school districts. Everyone has a different definition of progress and "improvement." Personally, if I ever end up living in Frisco (or similar), I'll mail my degree back to UNT just before I kick the chair out from under my feet. Two sides of the same coin. To each his own.
  8. I didn't realize UAB was moving to the West in 2015. My opinion stands, however. I know everyone is nostalgic for our old running buddies, ULL and ASU, but from an outside perspective, they bring very little to the table.
  9. Add Texas State, put Southern Miss in the east. Make the West a strong regional division with five Texas teams + La Tech. It makes too much sense and is a great benefit to UNT, UTSA & Rice. Adding ULL does nothing for the conference, from a market perspective. Texas State may not either, but at least it's another Texas team with a large student body and a substantial alumni base.
  10. Add Lewisville to the long list of towns that has passed us by. Who's next? Argyle? Sanger? Get it together, RV.
  11. You're right. We won so many conference games back then, it was hard to keep them all straight in my mind. From the ESPN Game recap:
  12. You know what definitely exists in Frisco? DEATH METAL.
  13. Q: Could a convention be held inside the Sack N Save so that the students without cars could attend?
  14. I like your style.
  15. I don't even remember what this thread was originally about. But drug use in Frisco seems as interesting a topic as any.
  16. This. I may be alone, but if we lived in an alternate universe of mutual exclusivity, I'd give up football entirely if it meant being granted Tier 1 status.
  17. The only thing I remember about Utah State was in the early 2000's when we ran up the score on them and celebrated with a grenade in the endzone. That's the kind of pizzazz you got with Dickey's teams. We knew how to rub it in when we were winning. The best win in NT history is probably yet to come. We don't have any wins I'd feel comfortable getting too worked up about. The New Orleans Bowl win would probably be my favorite. The "miracle in the desert" against NMSU was one of the more significant.
  18. Well at least we'll have strength of schedule to point to come playoff time. SUCK IT, MARSHALL!
  19. The Mack Brown (or similar) hire shows SMU has the money and is willing to commit it to being relevant. It gets them in the papers and it separates them from the rest of their G5 peers by showing they have the cash to make a big splash. From a perception perspective, it's a better move. Whether or not it translates to success on the field, however, is an entirely different subject matter.
  20. A&M's becoming Oregon except without all the wins.
  21. In hindsight, we probably would have gone 11-1, last season (and possibly 12-2 with a conference champ game win and a loss in a bowl game, a la Rice), with any sort of competence on offense. That would have been a HUGE asset to our recruiting (and gone a long ways towards shaking the loser image that anchors our program's aspirations). So it's not like what Marshall is doing is all for naught. In fact, strategically, it's pretty smart to schedule a weak SOS. Because in the end, 11-1 or 12-0 against middle-of-the-road competition just looks better than starting out the gates 1-3 by playing a bunch of top ten P5 schools. I don't care if we play G5 teams every game of the season. No one cares how hard your schedule was if you don't win the games.
  22. None. Had they filled out a non-conf schedule like that of LA Tech -- one that all these other highly-ranked P5 schools play as part of their regular schedule -- and gone through that undefeated, they'd have a very strong case. But the reality is, they have one of the easiest schedules in all of football. And they'll likely go undefeated and they will be rewarded by getting an invite to a great bowl game and enjoy the benefits that follow on the recruitment trail.
  23. Eh, I dont know. 2-10 gives us a better draft position.
  24. It's a bizarre article. And UH is probably a better football team than Rice. But who really cares?
