Could We Agree To Quit Starting Posts
Eagle1855 replied to the real grad88's topic in Mean Green Football
we could always take an exhaustive look into "the reasons why UT is the devil" while we are at it. Haven't seen one of those in a while. -
the case could be made that the blocked punt in the SMU game was a pivotal moment and one of the reason we won it handily. blocked punts for TD's are pretty demoralizing.

Daily Are Saddened By The Upcoming Changes To Fry Street
Eagle1855 replied to WIFE2HOT4U's topic in Mean Green Football
well in that case, I hope you are right. In my opinion, the logo thing turned out just fine. Maybe, just maybe, someone that deals with these things day in and day out knows more about what is going on than those of us that post our opinions while at our respective jobs? Just a thought... And for the record, I truly hope those places DO open up elsewhere around the campus. I enjoyed the Tomato's pizza. -

well then you aren't looking at it the way a real estate developer looks at it. Quite simply, the location of those local places is worth more than they can afford to keep them there. Those places are welcome to open up elsewhere, and if the product is great, they will still have plenty of business. The Loophole is one of my favorite restaurants in Denton and it survives just fine without being on Fry Street by providing decent drink specials, and awesome food. CVS is a great addition to the UNT campus. As is starbucks, because lets face it- some people may not feel comfortable hanging out at some of the locally-owned coffee houses in Denton because they attract a different customer. And there's nothing wrong with that. Both can coexist just fine. Any development in and around NT is good for NT, which is good for my degree -

dang, there was a Jims in Denton? As in, the same Jim's you can find in the hill country area? I love that place. Regarding Fry street... CVS is great for college students, especially for those that do not have cars. They can get prescriptions filled (if the UNT pharm doesnt have something), pick up any other meds or personal products they might need, and even develop film all without having to leave campus. Seems like a pretty good thing to me. -
Yes, I know Richardson is a northern suburb but you are talking about what, 10-15 miles from downtown Dallas? My point was simply that it isn't like the only option for public schools in the metroplex are NT and UTA.

would have liked to see the spring game on a Saturday, as it makes it tough for the out of towners to make a Sunday game and return home the same night, but I will take what I can get! plus, it works out really well for people who live in the metroplex to attend a Sunday afternoon game (as people usually reserve saturday for getting everything done- home depot, bed bath and beyond... if they have enough time), and the majority of fans will most certainly be from the area. Cant wait! -
I understand the public university in Dallas thing (even though UTD does have a campus there, UNT-D will likely serve So-Dal). I don't really care either, its just that when you have the chance to do something different and you are starting from a clean slate, wouldn't you at least look around at other area schools and make sure you arent using the EXACT same colors and logo? It just seems kinda typical of UNT admin of the past. I agree, the education is the most important thing, but the two aren't mutually exclusive. you dont give up education by picking an original mascot and color scheme. I doubt they will ever do 2 law schools in the same market. That would be absurd even by UNT standards. I understand the benefits of having one in downtown dallas, but I also think about what a huge plus it would be for the Denton campus- the flagship of the UNT system. We all want NT to move into the next tier and having a good law school on campus certainly wouldn't hurt. One of the problems with NT has always been keeping students in Denton and creating that college atmosphere that a great college town like Denton deserves. I understand it is getting better, but having law students on campus for 2-3 years only adds to the experience. And its not like Dallas is that far away. Plus, having it in Denton gives equal access to everyone in the Metroplex. I agree. This is what I would really like to see happen. Don't even really have to change the name of the schools (the Texas State system only has one school that carries the Texas State name, though all of campuses can change their names if they see fit). My intention in listing the number of schools in the other state systems was to point out that even with the addition of a UNT-Dallas campus we are a ways behind, which is why I questioned what the next step (after UNT-D) would be. Anyways, I can see the pros and cons of every side of these arguments, just like to see what other people think!

yeah, well thats because Alamo Heights is like the Highland Park of San Antonio. Regardless, nice video, thanks for sharing

pretty sure that was sarcasm....

I meant necessity as in, why Dallas? And I agree. If it is going to happen (which is apparently is), it should be viewed as it's own university, and branding should take place ASAP to differentiate the campus from Denton. The question is will people identify it differently (perhaps this is why they are doing this early on)? Seems like it could easily be confusing. The Texas State system shows 9 campuses across the southern part of the state. Texas Tech System shows 6 schools. UT system shows 9. Do we have plans to rapidly expand our campuses across the North?
-
The concept isn't difficult. The necessity is what I am questioning.
-
you know, I pretty much agree with most of that (except the stupid bird and prey comments) I still haven't even figured out the reason for an NT-Dallas campus (unless we are trying to steer the non-trad student that direction). I understand the point of expanding the UNT system so as not to get gobbled up by the UT system at some point, but why not grab a college in a small town in North Texas, expand that. Wichita Falls comes to mind. The only way I can see a UNT-Dallas campus making sense is if it is for the Law school, but even so, I think it would be a huge mistake to not have the law school a part of the UNT-Denton campus. Maybe someone that knows more on that subject can comment. If we have to have a UNT-Dallas campus, having different logos makes sense. I still think choosing the same colors and mascot as a school in the region is a really stupid and unoriginal idea. (Southern) And about the confusing branding comments, I don't know why we don't just get rid of all the stuff with the old logo. Quit trying to sell it for clearance and donate it to a shelter and write it off.

seriously, if this is a real email (and Im not convinced it is), this lady is an idiot. Why take the time and energy to pen a letter to a freaking 18 year old. GET A LIFE. Let the coaches deal with it- that's why you hired them. Also, Major Applewhite never won a Big 12 Championship. Simms started the 2001 game against Colorado and it took like 3 picks for them to finally let Major in. Either way, I guess I see the point she was attempting to make. Any question Nutt would get the hell out of that place if given the opportunity with say, The Dallas Cowboys?

Ot: Parcells Resigning
Eagle1855 replied to TicketJohn's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
I don't think Parcells had any choice but to try Romo as the starter with the level of awfulness Bledsoe was bringing to the table, but thats just my opinion. Romo wasn't exactly "brilliant" the last 4-5 games as a starter. In fact, he looked very pedestrian. Sometimes backups enjoy a lot of success because teams dont know a lot about them. once they figure out how to frustrate the QB, you see what the guy is really made of. I think Romo is a fine QB, I just wouldnt call the move "genius". I think a lot of the success the team enjoyed this year was due to the fact that the Cowboys have a very talented team and the case could be made that they actually underachieved this year.
