Honestly, Riley could probably start for most pro teams right now. Riley Dodge could take on Chuck Norris, Mike Ditka and Hurricane Andrew with only his left hand and a woman's size 8 high-heeled shoe- and it still wouldn't be a fair fight for the coach, the karate master, nor the act of God. After considering all of that, I think it's pretty safe to say NT would be considered "small time", wouldn't you?

this thread was started in humor and now totally sucks. (pun unintended, but now making me laugh)

I believe it. I was in Vail last year and that flight looked like it would have been a higher difficulty land than many. They sent the plane we were waiting on to Durango to re fuel because they had tried to land several times and couldnt (due to snow and wind). They finally got it in but I was less than confident in us making it back to Denver at that point (we did make it, by the way). -
Ok, I understand that. I guess what Im saying is, it aint gonna happen. So there's no point in worrying ourselves over UT. If Riley wants to play QB, i dont see him being able to do that at there. By the way, the video posted is hilarious! Seems like a great kid, would love to have him at NT.
-
why does everyone think that UT will offer him a scholarship to play QB? I mean, everyone is acting like its a foregone conclusion that UT will be all over this kid. Just because it is his "dream school" doesn't mean anything to UT. Every year there are thousands of kids that play HS football in Texas that would consider it a "dream school" (or USC, OU, Michigan, etc..). I bet there are players on our roster that would have loved to play QB for UT. That doesn't mean it was ever going to happen. So he's visiting. Big deal. UT has several guys on scholarship that played QB in HS that converted to WR or another position in college.
-
He will never play QB at Texas. If he wants to play QB, he should look elsewhere. Texas isn't going to have a 5'10" starting QB. There are plenty of other QB's that will be as good or better than Riley that Texas will have to choose from that can see over Texas' monster O-line. Not saying anything against Riley, that's just the reality of the situation.

I would be shocked if Texas offered Riley a ship as a QB. At any time.

Oh I agree... but Im thinking more of within the state of texas, or from Texas to one of the bordering states. That could be done with relative ease in a day and you wouldnt have to hassle with driving or flying. -
at 5'8", Isiah Smith better be all kinds of fast otherwise I can't see him being much help at WR

I really wish we would adopt a more European-style of travel and invest in the rail systems. Although I don't have any idea what the cost benefit (if any) of running such an operation. It would be nice to be able to take a high speed train from Houston to Dallas or Dallas to Austin without having to deal with the hassle that is flying, or the total beating it is to drive I-45 or I-35. Cut down on the cars on the road, which would also make all the global warming dorks happy. Everyone wins. -

yeah I saw that, but it doesnt look like Fouts would have to be destroyed for that to take place... maybe I am missing something? I also don't know anything about the restrictions (if any) for how close something can be to a highway, etc. From the picture, it doesnt seem like Fout's is all but gone, as some have indicated. -

Arkansas Swaps Dates For Kentucky, North Texas Games
Eagle1855 replied to mgsteve's topic in Mean Green Football
Maybe Arkansas should look at moving into the Sun Belt. I mean, it's an up-and-coming league, they'd be competitive almost immediately, and they would have a natural (competitive) geographic rival in Ark State. -
No doubt it was a good year, especially given the resources. Not trying to take away from your experience, just pointing out those were admittedly bad SWC teams we beat that year. I would have loved to have been there to see it myself. '02 was a lot of fun for me. As was the beat-down we handed Baylor in 03 in front of our largest crowd ever at Fouts. I think it can and will get better than it was in 88 and 02. I think it's closer than many think (and further than the kool-aide drinkers hope)

While agree with the spirit of which you speak, the "big boys" you listed finished with the following records in 1988: Texas - 4-7 Texas Tech - 5-6 Rice - 0-11 Baylor - 6-5 Not exactly an impressive group of teams. Don't get me wrong, I agree we played well that season. We lost to the 2 best 1AA schools on our schedule in the regular season (SFA and NWst) and a solid Marshall team in the playoffs. I'd also agree we probably would have fared well in the SWC. But we weren't playing against the Tech, OU, and Texas teams of today.

good point. 35-0 against a glorified community college is far worse, in my opinion, than a 56-7 against a perennial powerhouse.

I'll take that as well, except it will be my beloved Astros BEATING your beloved Rangers -
well, from the looks of it, probably should have broken Aaron Ross's (#31) legs at the beginning of the game. That would have helped. Tackling is also a key part of playing football. That would have been nice as well. I think the thing that hurts us most in games like that is field position. We start in the shadow of our own goal line, and they start at mid field. Pretty tough for ANY team to win a game like that. Of course, you have to move the ball to gain better field position which is something we havent done in 2 years...

Mavs Thread
Eagle1855 replied to UNT_92_Fan's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
Agree with the first part for sure. It's a big IF saying, "if the Rockets can get all their pieces together" because once Yao's knee is 100%, T-Mac's back will probably go out. It's the same old story every year... I disagree somewhat with the latter. As a person that has watched most of the games this year, I think Yao's play has improved significantly since the last playoff series with the Mavs, and the additions of Battier and Wells certainly haven't hurt them. The biggest difference is that they play really good defense. That being said, I don't know that the Rockets could beat the Mavs in 7, though I think it would be a really good series. The Mav's are just too deep and have too many shooters. -
well-said. ditto. what he said. etc, etc

Mavs Thread
Eagle1855 replied to UNT_92_Fan's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
if the Rockets were to play and beat the Spurs in the playoffs, it probably wouldn't be an upset. Their records are almost identical and the Rockets have beaten them twice this year in SA, once without Yao. The Suns however, that would be an upset for anyone that isn't the Mavericks. The Rockets are a healthy center away from being a legitimate top 3-4 team in the West. The Mav's have a hard time matching up with the Rockets when Yao is in the lineup and I think the Rockets pull last night's game out with a W if he is in there (pure conjecture) - if for no other reason than the fact that he can actually make a free throw (which were few and far between for the Rockets team last night) Dirk played like a superstar last night. I agree with whoever posted that about the fact he didn't go to the line being further indicative of that. He made some amazing shots. The back to back 3s were a killer! As a fan of both (though I favor the Rockets) I hope they get another shot at each other during the playoffs. Anything to knock SA and that gaggle of whiners out of the mix. Sorry to interrupt, Let the Mavs homerism continue... -
Who Does Everyone Cheer For In Baseball
Eagle1855 replied to AnotherEagleFan's topic in Mean Green Athletics
MLB, I'm an Astros and Tigers fan Collegiate, its Rice and Texas. -
Please. Rice, UH, Southern Miss, and SMU will all draw larger NT crowds than FIU, FAU, ULL, ULM. They will also create more interest statewide as well as in the national media (whether you SBC lovers realize it or not, we are still the least-respected conference) , from the casual fan, and even the NT alum that hasnt been around in a while. And before someone posts the stupid "UH didnt draw that well 20 years ago when we played them" remember, this is a different time, we are in a different conference, and we have a different and larger student body. Screw the belt. Build our program, get into C-USA or better and build that conference.
