I'm probably gonna hate myself for doing this, but... So usurping someone else's tradition is a good thing to make your own tradition when you beat them? So basically every time someone beats Tech in their place, throwing tortillas could become their tradition- as long as they keep doing it for 17 years afterwards. Just trying to "get it". And I don't think an elitist "you weren't there so you don't get it" applies here, only a tiny handful of people were there for that. I guess my biggest thing is (regardless of the reasons for throwing tortillas), why keep pushing a "tradition" that everyone else in the state already views as someone else's, exclusively? Whether or not it is a good tradition for us, why keep doing it if that is the case? We won't ever win it in the eyes of college sports fans. You don't get to "take" someone else's tradition because you beat them. As you stated yourself, we have plenty of other traditions that are exclusive to our fine university, why not promote those and let the tortillas just die?

While he was "off" last night (and I'd credit Memphis for refusing to let him beat them), Acie Law has been one of if not THE most clutch college MBB players all season. At some point the guys around him needed to step up and out side of Kavaliauskas, it didn't happen. Joseph Jones missed at least one easy lay up and the rest of the team was only 50% from the FT line. That's a hard way to end a career for such a good guy. I kinda feel for him!

oh great, here we go again.... But I agree with you- the fact that people even think it was copied by those dorks is reason enough for me to quit doing it. The last thing anyone wants to do is emulate a Tech fan in any way.

If our football season hadn't been such an abortion this past year, we would have been a good ways ahead of Rice, closer to TCU. Going 3-9 on the season in the SBC makes it tough to make a case we should be any higher...

Do You Believe This?
Eagle1855 replied to KingDL1's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
which part do you find unbelievable? The fact that this is actually newsworthy, the fact that the guy actually did this, or the fact that the state just gave him probation instead of a double tap to the head? -
Ha, very true. I live in Houston, springs already come and gone in my mind. It lasts about 3 weeks, then its nothing but 80+ from there on out which is pretty much summer

Well I agree, I never discuss deals ON the range, but playing with clients and prospective clients give you an "edge" because they feel like they know you, or at the very least, know the two of you have something in common. 2009 would be AWESOME, but that would mean we'd need to break ground SOON, right? And whatever happened to the big announcement this spring? Was that the 1.5mill donation, or was there something else?

thanks for sharing, good stuff!

Cool Hand Luke is one of my all time favorite movies (just thought I would add my piece to this totally derailed thread) Great article, too bad the thread has been completely jacked!

Hey, I just said they were my rules to rooting, they don't have to be yours! Most of the people I know that went to SMU were either from Dallas or out of state, and only one of them still lives in Texas... this is not a scientific survey, its just my experience. Couple that with the fact that more than half their first year undergrads are from elsewhere, that makes it a not very "Texas" school, outside of it's location.. That was all I was saying. That's why I said it doesn't fall into my guidelines (that I just made up) for rooting for Texas schools. Its not an exact science, and it was kind of a joke... Well, I think it's important we establish that Massachusetts's is nothing like Texas and therefore the same logic cannot be applied. You don't see people singing songs about Massachusetts, you can't buy a Massachusett's edition truck, and they don't make Miller Lite with cans specifically for Massachusetts. Texas 3, Mass 0. Also let me remind you, we are talking SPORTS. Not sure how MIT finished up their football season, but I would guess that if they even had a football team it would probably be "not good" My brother goes to SMU and I know that it is a good school. Good for him. It works for him and that makes me happy. In fact, if they are playing some scrub from another conference and state, I hope they do well for his sake because I know how much it sucked going to a school where you felt like you lost every single game you attended and I know how much fun it can be to once you start winning games! You just won't see me sporting blue and red and hopping up and down with gleeeeeee... I don't even think there is a problem if they are "churchy", as you put it. But I'm not sure why this point was even brought up since nobody said anything about private schools having too much to do with religion. There's plenty of secular private schools for those that want to avoid all the awful "churchiness". Root for whomever you wish! I honestly don't care about SMU one way or the other. I think you picked the wrong guy to take out your "why is everyone picking on SMU" rant. I already went down that road a couple weeks back pondering the obsession with SMU on this board, and it ended in show tunes.

I believe he was a QB. Evidently he was a pretty talented baseball player as well... http://www.dts.edu/about/profiles/Pastor_Tommy_Nelson http://www.unt.edu/northtexan/archives/s01...ardswinners.htm

Texas State Ad At Odds With Message Board
Eagle1855 replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
You know I kinda agree with you on this. We've played Texas State more than any other school and they are in our state. It's a natural rival. If they could make the move to D-1 into whatever conference we end up in, it would be nice to have them on our schedule every year. I have a good friend that graduated from TSUSM, and he is continually frustrated that they have a student body that wants a Div 1A athletics program to support and cant seem to get one no matter how many motions they "pass" in the student government. Says half the kids that go there are UT fans as well because it's Div 1A, which is "real" college football. -
Ha, that's really a hilarious joke. SMU being the only school in Texas to represent us in something? Come on... But in the event that hell did in fact dip below 33 degrees, let me explain that I only apply my state school logic to schools that are supported by our tax money- those that are actually "state funded universities". SMU is a strange bird, even compared to the other private schools in the state. Less than half the first year undergrads are even from the state of Texas.

Good point. Nebraska was really the only "higher profile" athletics program we played, and they aren't even all that good (and we lost). I'd like to see a big 12 south school and a couple metroplex rivals every season. I'd also like a game with Houston or Rice (selfishly) every year. Of course, we would have SMU, Rice, and UH every season if we were in CUSA (begin beating of dead horse)

True, however A&M is good in the sloppy, slower games. That isn't to Memphis' advantage. If Memphis is to win this game, they are going to have to continue run and gun. My prediction is that the crowd, coupled with A&M's physical and defensive play will throw off Memphis' rhythm enough for the "upset". Especially since Chris Douglas-Roberts is dealing with an ankle sprain and won't likely be at 100%. I say go Aggies! They are the lone representative of the Lone Star State!

I thought so too. brilliant!

Another North Texas State Reference

The article: A&M-Corpus Christi to debut at the Big Dance my email: That's just lazy. A little homework (like 32 seconds of internet searches) would go a long way... -
you nor the rest of the country...

thats awesome. We loaded up the cars for a huge caravan one year around 3am or 4am to go to one of the NOBowls. We were all supposed to go home and get some sleep around 10pm, but a couple of us decided to belly-up to the Tavern and ended up getting home about that time... of course, this was an excellent way to get out of having to drive! Couple of my friends are also having to leave late Thursday evening, hope you guys have safe travel, thats a long haul!
-
ha I dont really care about your prediction, but your handle = awesome.

There are a lot of nice towns in Tennessee- Memphis just isn't the first that comes to mind. However there is a lot of crime, so that's something.
-
me too. I think its close at the half, opened up in the second good enough for a 15 point Memphis victory.

actually he has seen the classroom. he is apparently a really good student and enjoys being in Austin (not hard to imagine for a star athlete ha). He's not your typical can't-wait-to-get-my-money kind of freshman basketball player, he's a good kid. I agree, A&M is a better team all around. They have an veteran team that plays well together- as a team- and Acie Law is a stud! I do think it's pretty impressive what Texas has managed to do with 5 new starters, 4 of whom are freshman. It isn't all Durant, Augustine is an intergral part of that team as well. That being said, I've got A&M in the Final Four, and Texas getting beat in the 16. Oh and I don't think Tech makes it out of the first round. Regarding LSU and fans experiences, FFR's good experience is the first I have heard. Even LSU fans told me I was crazy to go to Baton Rouge if I was supporting their opponent. I guess it just differs for everyone. Hell, I've witnessed NT fans acting in ways that embarrassed me...
