Horrible horrible tragedy. Prayers with the families of EVERYONE in and around that campus. Let's not get into a debate over the right to bear arms, there are many who believe that the founding father's intent has been misinterpreted.

you must be a glass half empty kind of guy... I look at like this... if the guy is willing to give a nut for the sake of the program, that really speaks to his PASSION for NT... because I cant promise I would offer up one of these bad boys just to have a winning program

that is actually an intriguing idea Regarding the Exes logo, Im not convinced that would look good from a distance. Even on my truck, my exes logo kinda resembles the aTm you see on some cars and is relatively indistinguishable until you get up closer to it. Point is, with this many people you are going to have a lot of differing opinions. whatever the case, just pick something decent and stick with it (like what we had).

League Expansions (off The Frog Board)
Eagle1855 replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
The same thing is happening at UH and in Houston as well. All the C-USA schools I listed are also in the south, and should therefore benefit from this migration so I dont really see your point. If you can find one college football fan that didnt go to school at a Sun Belt school that would rather go see UNT play ULL, ULM, MTSU, or FIU over Southern Miss or UTEP, I will be shocked. And neither of those schools were in the SWC. Ever. -
white helmet, Kelly shirt, and white pants wouldn't look too bad and could help defer some of the southlake comparos

For All Those Speculating On Where Wasson Is Going

So he couldn't secure a spot playing QB and played WR at Texas State, but there is a QB spot for him at OU? Interesting. -
League Expansions (off The Frog Board)

It's not just silly, it's ABSURD. The Big 12 would have ZERO interest in having a school 30 miles from one of the hottest recruiting beds in the nation (which is part of the reason you will never see UH in the big 12 either). They don't need the exposure in either market, and schools like KU, K-State, and Ok State dont want the competition. C-USA is a very real possibility in the next couple years, and we should set our sights on that (and I think RV is doing that already). And before everyone posts about the SBC and its record against C-USA, please know that I dont CARE if the Sun Belt is improving... I dont care at ALL. I would rather go watch us play Rice, SMU, UTEP, So Miss, and Houston than ANY belt school and I think if you asked the average college football fan (the people you want to take interest in our program to help fill up the new stadium), you will get the same sentiment. -
The interlocking NT is never going to happen. The new branding pretty much eliminated that from contention, so we can all just let that go. And though it is my preference as well, interlocking letters are far from unique. They are used in some form or fashion on several helmets like UH, OU, Texas Tech, KU, UK, to name a few...

Actually, a lot. If they use white face masks, it won't be a dead ringer for the Southlake Helmet. If they opt for green (which I assume they will given the green stripe down the center of the helmet), it's gonna be hard to hide from the comparisons! I think the white helmet will look good, just get ready for a barrage of Southlake North comments from the rest of the state!
-
right, but UT hasn't changed their helmets and uniforms 10+ times since they started playing football. It is not uncommon for high schools to mimic collegiate or pro helmets. It IS uncommon for a University to change their helmet to look very similar to a prominent HS in the area- the one from which they just got their new coach! Here's to hoping the face masks are white, otherwise, it will be a dead-ringer!
-
I agree with your sentiment. I just want them to keep whatever we change to from now on! I do not like that it will so closely resemble the Southlake helmets, but whatever...

League Expansions (off The Frog Board)
Eagle1855 replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
And it IS a big commuter school, because the areas that surround the U of H campus are rough. I certainly would not want to live there! Also, Houston isn't a college "town". Rice has a better atmosphere because it is in a nice, contained pocket of the city but it also has a tenth of the enrollment. I think places like A&M and Tech are naturally going to have more people around on the weekends by default since they are both in the middle of nowhere. North Texas IS far enough north and in a nice enough town where you can get the college town feel without being in BFE- best of both worlds. -
well I'd post a picture of me throwing up my claw while on the job, but I feel like everyone would be less than impressed with a guy sitting at a desk in an office... and the "big hose" reference made me a little bit uncomfortable, not gonna lie...

you could start by getting kids interested in NT that are from areas outside of DFW, like say, HOUSTON, SAN ANTONIO and AUSTIN... that would help. Seems like a lot of people I met in school went home to Lewisville or some other suburb to hang with their parents, do laundry or whatever on the weekends, which I always thought was really weird! People in Houston still ask me what and where North Texas is. UTA has a nice big billboard south of The Woodlands coming in on I-45... I'd like to see something from NT! And I'll take our academics over Texas State's party status ANY day. -
Actually, the only reason it is on Sunday instead of Saturday is because Fout's is reserved that Saturday (for an event that was scheduled a while back). It is my understanding that in the future it will be on Saturdays.

hunter green is a great color, but it isnt gonna happen. The new colors are here to stay, for better or worse! I personally like the new green a lot, especially when accented with black and white, but to each his own... -

Star Of The Sun Belt - Middle Tennessee
Eagle1855 replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
Please. the star of the belt is TROY. They keep pulling in great recruits and they straight dominated Rice in the NO Bowl. MTSU has been the "sexy pick" since the league's inception and hasn't yet won the league outright. I hope they all have fun this year, because starting '08, its back to the way things used to be: North Texas on top, every year. -

is there any doubt the next few years are going to be some of UNT's best? -
now I get what you are saying... the rant about t-shirts and highschool threw me off... but yes, I agree. No reason to have "Raze the Raiders" or "Give Worry to the Warhawks" shirts because these are not teams anyone gives a rat's a$$ about in the first place. We would do much better to hand out the green shirts (ideally in the correct color) that say something about North Texas or I Bleed Green, as you suggested. I love the Navy shirt, I'm glad it is being made. Kudos to the Exes. I'd like to have one, but I'm not driving to Denton to get one, so unless they mail them out I'll have to do without. I'd like us to show up to SMU with some university-sponsored t-shirts to help pack that place with Green. I think that would make a good statement about our pride in NT!
-
I agree with you about not doing one for every home game as I think it does dilute the impact, but I completely disagree with your reasoning. Honestly, to me it sounds like we should just replace "a lot of incoming freshmen" and "the student population" with "TheTastyGreek". As in, your highschool experience sucked, so you make the assumption the majority of UNT students are in the same boat. A lot of people that attend UNT do in fact enjoy sports and wouldn't view the university doing crazy and outlandish things like "promoting games" or "making t-shirts to create excitement" as "too much like Highschool". Most alumni and older students just haven't had anything to cheer about until the last 5-6 years. I think the culture of the university is changing, and becoming more well-rounded. That means, more students that DO enjoy sports that don't view the school as a "liberal arts or bust" type school, and would like to see us have success in EVERYTHING we do. Much like UT has been able to do over the last 10 years.
