  1. Texas has an opening in 09... Id be game for a return trip, 2 years into the Dodge experience... I'd like to see UH on the schedule. Though it's not a money game, it would be good to play in Houston on a regular basis (be it Rice or Houston)
  2. I thought the Tulsa fans I met in Denton were a really classy bunch. I'd like to have Tulsa on the schedule regularly. And SMU, and Rice, and UH and UTEP...
  3. Such is the M.O. of most boards...
  4. This made MY day:
  5. no kidding, what the hell was that all about? I think RV has done a fine job. And he deserves some accolade for his accomplishments. He was able to translate the success Dickey had on the field into dorms, weight room, athletic center, etc. What gives?
  6. I've heard the same things said about him. He also isn't shy and projects a lot of confidence. One more reason I'm excited about this Fall!
  7. whhhhoooooooooooo caaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaareeessssssssss He's coming to play here. End of story. We win. Game over.
  8. Vizza won't redshirt.
  9. Way to jump the gun... First of all, who says Riley is the better QB? Why is it a forgone conclusion he will be our QB as soon as he sets foot on the turf? He could RS his first year, giving Vizza the chance to play his way into the role of the starter for at least 2 years before Riley is even eligible. If at that point Riley is ready and is the better option, so be it. Everyone needs to get off Riley's jock. Im really glad he's coming here. I think it's a good thing for UNT and I think it will inspire other higher-rated recruits to follow suit. I think he's a great competitor, and he knows this offense. In my opinion, he would have never played QB at UT and he would have had a hell of a time getting the starter nod for any other position there. So for me, this is as much of a good thing for he as it is for us. Art Briles' son followed him to UH. He was an all-state QB in HS that ended up a role-playing WR in their offense once it became apparent Kolb was the better guy- and it worked out pretty well. Who knows what could happen. As CBL stated, this is a GOOD problem to have. Most larger programs have this problem to some degree every year.
  10. Im with you! Im glad they are doing this, and I bought a couple hats from Lids, but id love to see just a simple hat, without all the frills!
  11. well then it becomes a useless post. Wasnt sure if this was some promo SMU was doing or if it was UNT... ahhhhh forget it... just clarifying been a long week, just trying to kill the last 2 hours of this day...
  12. First 1000 UNT students? If so, Kudos to the AD!
  13. it's certainly possible... I spent an inordinate amount of time at The Tavern and Cool Beans in the early 2000s. Steel-toed boots are like kryptonite to hippies. Once donned, there is no counter-move nor retaliation for our bongwater-glazed friends. Check mate, game over.
  14. Not if you had a steel-toed boot... or a sword (if you were a pirate or a ninja, that is). Then it was pretty easy.
  15. Dodge2007... welcome to the board... always good to have a differing opinion! Im not sold on Meager at all. Thats just my personal opinion based on what I've seen the last 2 (painful) years. Im actually not sold on WW either. He's a terrific athlete, but I dont know if he can run this offense. I DO know that he got us our best win in the last 2 years and our only score on UT in 3 tries...so that's something! I think Tune is a non-factor. Same for Phillips. Im very much looking forward to hearing how Vizza does, and I agree, if he is even close to as good as Meager, he'll be the guy. Already knows the spread, will be here 4 years. Thats a great scenario.
  16. Biggio becomes 27th major leaguer with 3,000 hits The hit wish he coulda made stretched that double as it would have only been fitting for his career, but what a game!
  17. Agree! I think MSU's look sharp. Less is more.
  18. I wouldn't say winning did nothing... it certainly helped. People came out and supported a winner. Winning is probably the biggest factor to having people come out. But I agree, the next biggest factor is better quality opponents- or at LEAST household names. Baylor and SMU both proved that. And Navy will do so again this year in a game which I suspect will have attendance that rivals or surpasses the 2003 Baylor game.
  19. You know, it's too bad Dickey couldn't ever put the defense and offense together... That 2002 defense with the 2004 offense (or ANY offense) really could have been something special. It's amazing we did as well as we did with such dismal offensive #s in 02
  20. thanks for the insight, ArkStFan... found it to be very informative, interesting.
  21. Well, Baylor went 3-9 in 2002, 2003, and 2004. In 2003 they got beat by a lousy UAB team, barely beat an SMU team that was on it's way to an 0-12 campaign- at home- then lost a couple more by scores of 73-10, 56-0, 38-10, 62-14, and 41-3. It was their worst team in a long time. We laid down a thorough beating for sure, and I had a hell of a time at the game (was one of my fondest memories of gameday at UNT), but to call it a LARGE upset is going a little far. Beat OU in the opener this year, then we've got a large upset. While it wasn't the best record, 2002 was probably our best team during those years. We played a few OOC games close (still lost them all, except to the powerhouse that is Nicholls State) then capped it off with the win over a good Cincy team. We carried that momentum with us, going on to get our asses kicked in every other OOC game (save Baylor) we played after that year. I'm not taking away from what we accomplished- it got us here today. I had a hell of a time at every one of those New Orleans Bowls. In my opinion, having the back-to-back rushing champs is what got us the most press during that time, not our "impressive" dominance of the Little Sisters of the Poor- but thats a matter of opinion. Winning 26 straight conference games is never easy, no matter who you play against. It just would have helped the 'belt in it's quest for legitimacy had we managed a couple OOC wins a year during that run...
  22. Agreed. ANY points scored on that D will be tough and cause for celebration in a game where we are unveiling a new coach and offensive system. Their secondary will be really really good. The D-line is not proven as they lost a couple, but it is always well-stocked with studs so we wont be able to just "push them around". SMU has a pretty suspect D-line and recently lost a starting LB- which bodes well for us. I'd love to see J-Mo rip off a few big ones. I look for a much higher-scoring affair (on both sides) than last year's game. In any case, my guess is a FG will be our first points.
  23. thanks for sharing. Very interesting read indeed. Though I've heard some of this before, I thought this section was particularly interesting: Basically, could have some shakeups towards the end of the decade. Which could bode well for us-- I mean, it's unlikely we could be any worse off, just dont want to be "left out". If the Dodge is firing on all cylinders and the basketball team continues its success, who knows what could happen...
  24. Actually, Im all for us joining a BCS conference. Why not think big, start acting our size? We're a rapidly growing 34k+ student school in a major market with facilities that rival many BCS schools (save the stadium--- which will eventually be remedied). Why limit our options to C-USA? As I have always said, we just need to worry about what we can do- which is to build our program as much as we can, adding baseball and couple complementary women's sports. If we continue to build on the things we have done well, regardless of what happens with the rest of the conferences, who knows how it will all shake out?! If by some off chance the MWC becomes a BCS conference (yeah, long shot), TCU might like to have a travel partner. You just never know. South Florida starting playing football 10 years ago. Now they are a contender in a BCS conference. Boise State used to be a freaking community college. It's only as far-fetched as we want it to be.
