my how quickly we've gotten big heads over recruiting... I hope we maintain a certain level of class as our program continues to grow. We dont need to act like Texas Tech fans just because we are finally out-recruiting a has-been in our market. I'll get excited when we start consistently pulling in better classes than TCU. That will tell us a lot about the direction of our program.

Southlake Housing Development

There are neighborhoods like that all over the state and nation. Just goes to show how great we have it as Americans. There really is a lot of money to be made out there... -
I'll give you Texas and A&M, but I'm not conceding anything to the ass-clowns in Lubbock

How Do We Perceive This Upcoming Season ?
Eagle1855 replied to calvin's topic in Mean Green Football
I think you bring up several good points, and Troy and Rice are good examples to cite. I agree, before the firing of DD, I thought we were poised to make a good run in 2007. In fact, before the 2006 season I remember posting that I didnt think 2006 would be all that great, but that 2007 would be a break-out year. I don't see why my opinion of that would change very much with what we perceive to be a "better coach" coming in with a somewhat talented recruiting class. I think the defense will carry the team the first part of the season. If the offense starts clicking a couple games in, I see no reason why we couldnt win 7+ games. I mean, C-USA isnt any worse than the Sunbelt, and Rice was the runner-up in the West (2-points away from replacing the coogs in the C-USA championship game). As always, our problems will be in the trenches, on both sides. Which is why I dont think you'll see those BIG seasons with double-digit wins until at least 08 and 09. -
well, to be fair, we were all pretty excited about SMU...

They still do, and it's pretty cool. They get it going before kick off and they do it after each score. Actually a pretty interesting story on it's origin (especially as a Sigma Chi alum myself): -

I cant imagine a scenario where any conference has teams that are as far east as Florida, and as far west as Hawaii... that sounds like a travel nightmare. -

because they actually don't care. you know how we say "I dont care what SMU thinks about us" but then talk about it at length? It's the opposite of that.

Houston fans come out the womb in angry-defensive mode. For once, things appear to be on the upswing for Houston sports across the board, so I'm happy. I enjoy the city's lack of zoning laws, the humidity, hurricanes, draft gaffes, and the off chance I might get shanked at a gas station by some transient for cash I don't even carry- it's excitement even x-games can't rival. I really don't care about the Rangers one way or the other. I enjoyed melting at the games in the summer when I lived in DF-Dub, it's a great ballpark. The silver boot is a fun novelty thing, but it's pretty much meaningless as well. I don't really pay attention to anything going on in the AL, as it doesn't hold much interest for me. In fact, if I never had to hear about the Red Sox/Yankees rivalry, it would be too soon. -

Just posting the facts... Either way, who cares? The Mav's didnt make it past the first round and they were the "best team in the NBA". They finished ahead of San Antonio in the division... does it matter? Did you guys pass out t-shirts declaring you were probably the best team, even though you didnt win it all? You're starting to sound like Matt Leinart whining about losing the Rose Bowl. Im not disputing whether the AL is better than the NL- that's a no-brainer for me. For whatever reason, the West, the AFC, and the AL are just better leagues in their respective sports. No question the AL is a better league, top to bottom. I'm laughing at Ranger's fan who constantly cries over being in the AL Worst and how hard it is, yet as you pointed out, some other AL team has managed to get through it 10 times in the last 15 years... It doesn't matter how many times the Rangers beat the Astros- they still suck. If beating the Astros is the benchmark for greatness, there's a lot of greatness going around this year. Seriously, I don't recall any team hanging up a banner for "winning interleague play"... though I suppose that would give Rangers Fan something to smile about. The Astros have won 3 Silver Boots to the Rangers 4, and have won 22 games to the Rangers 20 in the series. So I'm not seeing all this "dominance" over Houston. Historically, it's pretty even. At the end of the day, the Astros still have a pennant and still give fans something to root for year in and year out- past the month of June- which is why the ballpark still has a great crowd almost every night of the week. -

I'm of the opinion that it's not all that surprising some alums from that era had a rooting interest in other programs. We were in Div 1AA for about a decade and that's a really good way to get ANY fan to jump ship. I think he's a douchebag for many reasons not limited to his affinity for OU, but I'd have no problem with him rooting for, or speaking fondly of (or fondling) his alma mater. I think a lot of the NT/OU stuff is a bit to get at Dunham, but who knows... -

The JV league that won the world series last year? or the JV league that won the NL Pennant the last 3 years? Regarding Clemens, I imagine the DH in the AL has something to do with the inflated ERA... that and the fact that he's old as balls. -

Doesnt matter. We have PLENTY of alumni support as is... the last thing we need is some Johnny-come-lately bandwagon fans. Plus, I'm banking on Todd Dodge bringing the entire city of Southlake to just about every game with his awesometastic offensive wizardry... -

Eagle1855 replied to ParksAndRecRick's topic in Mean Green Football
yeah, we have no need for notable alumni on a well-known sports station in one of largest markets in the nation. Plus we have Riley Dodge, so pretty much everything is smooth-sailing from here on out. -
kidding... probably J-Mo, since we don't have a QB to speak of... or B-Jax. Will be interesting to see...

Well, I can't beat infinity, so I give up. You've got me this time, StanR, but I'm onto you. PS, the eagle logo IS recognizable and looks to be timeless/classic- which is precisely what we need. That, and the exes logo looks like an A$M logo from afar...
-
Well maybe everyone doesn't agree it's the best logo. Comma. We've got a perfectly good logo in the swooping eagle and it should be used as often as possible.
-
Are there a lot of schools that put their EXES logo on helmets? I mean, I just can't see it. Whether it looks good or not is irrelevant. They have the logos by way of the branding. I imagine they will use one of those...
