  1. Shouldn't you sign a QB every year, anyways? I would think you'd want something like 4-6 QB's every four years. Two back-ups. A starter. A red-shirt. Then account for position changes, transfers, graduations, and injuries. What's the ideal ratio for QB's? I've admittedly not thought much about this, but the post has piqued my curiosity.
  2. To be fair, La Tech and even Southern Miss are closer to Denton than UTEP.
  3. I believe it was Abraham Franklin who said it was better to remain silent and be thought a fool than a house guest who smells of fish.
  4. I had the same thought. I wondered, is this something people with kids deal with on a daily basis? Then I figured maybe it was just something people said in the Northeast. You know, because it's different up there.
  5. I must see this. EDIT: Along those lines, if you can think it, it's on the internet. Fade to Black, solos and all.
  6. I think that's a great way to put it. We're considering a Tejano speed metal project, next year. Either that or psychedelic hair-country. We just don't want to limit our creative output.
  7. I swore off Dr. Pepper the day Snapple shut down Dublin.
  8. I really prefer Mexican Coca-Cola to its American counterpart. Real cane sugar just tastes better.
  9. I was. Unfortunate memory. Also, found the Purdue player. He's now a WR coach at Texas Lutheran. These guys are much more lean, however. I think Murray's options are line or bust. Looking forward to seeing him in green.
  10. I feel like Purdue had an enormous WR a few years ago (which may be more like a decade ago... the years, they pass so quickly)...
  11. Now we just need to find a 7'1" QB.
  12. I don't understand why they haven't. I know the answer is "money" but that's not good enough.
  13. Sagarin rates C-USA's divisions at 16th and 17th among all conferences. That could have something to do with it. They scheduled no one. The beat no one that matters. But who cares? Marshall will get to say they went 12-0, 13-0, or 14-0. That's a pretty big edge when it comes to recruiting.
  14. The same. Half the coaches in America lose games every week. For every winning team, there's a losing team. But everyone wants to win each and every year. Not possible. So there's an ebb and flow. Some teams do better year in and year out, thanks to investments in program, perceived prestige, and coaching hires. Others consistently do worse (for many of the same reasons, except the opposite). I guess it takes a perfect combination of recruiting, coaching, and having a schedule of opponents who aren't doing it as well. UCONN is probably in a tougher position than UNT. They played a tougher schedule (91st vs 117th), and will do so for the foreseeable future because the AAC is probably a better conference, year in and year out (rated 12th vs CUSA's 16th and 17th). Neither had a particularly difficult schedule, however. Anyways, I didn't present it with any agenda. Just that many other programs suffer the same frustrations week in and week out... and the coaches cite the same reasons.
  15. And then he turns it down... has a bad season or two... the honeymoon ends and he ultimately loses his job... and then has to start over. Strike while the iron's hot, get paid. It's the name of the game, unfortunately. If Marshall wants to keep him, they should offer him whatever they can for as long as they can swing it. In the end, it probably still won't matter, as there are but a few jobs in the country that most would find impossible to turn down... and Florida is one of them. EDIT: untjim1995 made this point while I was typing it out. To your point, however, Gary Patterson has been pretty loyal to TCU and it has paid off!
  16. Thought this was interesting, given McCarney's statements (which may or may not have been misconstrued)... Link
  17. The two party system is killing college football.
  18. Maybe you should consider doing some side work as a consultant for folks that wish to elevate their +1 game. I'd take that class. I'd hire you on as my message board popularity contractor.
  19. I hear that. I've decided I am going to (even though we live almost 300 miles away). But it isn't a decision I'm making based on what the season will bring, as UNT football has never really at any time proven they are a program that is wholly committed to winning, so it would be hard for me to baseit on any optimism in that department. It's just a decision to support the program and finally having the means to do so (the latter being the most significant factor). That probably came off more negatively than I intended. Just meant it's not like we support a program that has shown it expects to win 10+ games every season. I hope that changes. And so I'll again buy tickets.
  20. I'm still holding out hope for the big fish. Which is why I penned a letter to Will Muschamp, extolling the virtues of our great university and the tremendous opportunity that awaits him in Denton, TX.
  21. You're a great asset to the program. As are most people on this board. I wouldn't feel bad at all for not wanting to sit in the rain and watch what is essentially a meaningless game between two bad teams. I had every intention of going to the UTSA game, as we'll be doing Thanksgiving in the Hill Country. But for me, the opportunity cost of not making the game is greater than any joy I'll derive making the trip down to SA to watch two bad teams play football. Simply, I'd rather spend time with family. And so that is my choice. I'll watch it on TV. If that make me a fair weather fan, I can live with that.
  22. That's amazing. How would one redeem said offer?
  23. It's fairly common knowledge the University of Florida football team was named in honor of the revolutionary sports beverage industry titan, William F. Gator, so I don't know what you're getting at.
