Well, here's how they've fared the past 10 years (Sunbelt in bold)... The Dave Arslanian years 1998, 3-8 1999, 4-7 The Mick Dennehy years 2000, 5-6 2001, 4-7 2002, 4-7 2003, 3-9 2004, 3-8 2005, 3-8 The Brent Guy years... 2006, 1-11 2007, 2-10 (with wins over NMSU and Idaho) So it's easy to see why Brent is crying- I'm guessing his ass is about to get fired.

If you think our athletic budget is small-time, take a look at Texas State's... I think it's about half of ours. Im not sure ours is where it needs to be for a competitive move to the MWC. IMO, we still need a baseball team and continued success in basketball to enter into any of these conference shuffle debates.

Different era of football. Texas was average (certainly not the perennial top-10 team they are now), as was Texas Tech. Plus they didn't have to contend with the likes of OU, emerging Mizzou/Kansas programs, an Ok State program that will spend whatever it costs to become successful. And don't think A&M isn't doing the same. I think it's just different now. But hey, it's just my opinion. The odds are stacked against Baylor. Of course, this conversation won't matter anyways if the Tech job opens because Briles would undoubtedly go there if given the option.

Wac Had Bcs Bowl Champ, Now Has 2 In Top 25

Hey, some teams leave it all on the field, some team's coaches leave it all on Bourbon Street- quite literally- the night before... -
This is actually a series of really good points. I grew up in Houston around the same time. My first college game was a UH game with Andre Ware at the helm. Had very similar experiences, and it isn't something a lot of people that grew up in the DFW understand (with respects to UNT). For whatever reason, UNT was my first choice too. I only applied to Tech and UNT (because I didn't want to live in or near Houston). I decided I had no interest in Lubbock, so it was on to Denton. As much as it sucks to hear, there is truth to the part about this not being a school of people's first choice. I didn't learn that til I moved to Denton and realized 75% of the people I knew were from the DFW area- many of which admitted they had applied other places but didn't get in. This is not the case at A&M, UT, or Tech. This is also not to say that things aren't changing- they clearly are- but that doesn't mean it isn't a reality with which we have to deal. I believe in UNT and the progress it is making both academically and athletically. I also believe in the vision of the leaders of our University. The school has already grown up ten fold since I started in 99. Just a walk through campus is a completely different experience (though as I learned during the MTSU game, still conjures many of the same fond memories). All of this talk comparing us to crowds at games with well-established football tradition is really unfair. We aren't there- yet. They have had a half-century (or more) head start. As far as Im concerned, the University all but neglected athletics until RV was brought in (love him or hate him). That's a pretty significant deficit to make up, and we're paying for it now. This doesn't mean we cant expect a lot out of our students, alumni, and local fans- we SHOULD. I just don't think it's fair to hold them to the same standards you do a place like Oklahoma or Texas where football has been a tradition for a century. We should also expect a lot out of our coaches, our administrators and our professors because we should strive for excellence in EVERYTHING we do. So be proud to be Green and stop with the personal attacks on our own! Everyone has a reason for why they couldn't be there, and they are all valid because the are all personal reasons! I believe there are still great things in store... Go Mean Green.

if anyone was upset or offended by this, they need to find some way to acquire a sense of humor, ASAP. The Mob has ALWAYS clowned on their opponents like this... and if Todd Graham can't take a joke, he deserves every bit of it.

who cares what UNT fans think about a UT QB? I know that UT fans liked him a lot. The competition was pretty even between he and Colt going into the 2006 season. Regarding Mendoza, I hope you're right. I have no problem saying I want our DC to be successful. Im not sure what you have seen that would lead you down that road- besides the bottom of his taint, obviously. Im also not sure why you have to have such a militant, matter-of-fact tone to your posts.

I think from our angle it looks like a great idea... but more than half of SMU's students are from out of state... so they might not be as excited. But let me make it clear, I'm all for the Safeway Bowl any date, every year.

Im pretty sure most Texas fans were all pretty supportive of Snead so it's clear to me that you don't know what the hell you are talking about. The Mendoza reference is further proof.

Cavalcade Of Whimsy - The Coaching Situations - Baylor & Todge
Eagle1855 replied to jperg2's topic in Mean Green Football
good points. honestly, i'd argue even SMU might be a better job than Baylor. I know that sounds crazy, but if SMU could have the success UH has had in C-USA, even they would be perceived as a better program than Baylor. The Big 12 South is too strong for Baylor to ever have any legitimate ambitions of anything more than a 7-5 season- and maybe that's fine with their fans. Which brings up the question, are some non-BCS gigs better than BCS programs? Is there hope for football at places like Indiana, Baylor, etc? -
no kidding. Not to mention we are about to be surrounded by $1mil+/per coaches (assuming Patterson makes that much at TCU) SMU has said they will pay 1.5 per Baylor is about to pay 1.8 Lots of money being thrown around these days, and we're nowhere near ready to match any of that. Could make it hard in the future.
-
that's a good reason to take the job... but I still maintain Baylor is a dead-end job. you'll never compete with OU or Texas, financially or athletically. And then there's that whole A&M, Ok State, Tech things. Which means the odds of making a significant bowl game are slim. Basically it's a place where you'd be happy to just make a bowl game every now and then, while you're waiting for a bigger BCS job to open up Good for Briles though, class guy, runs a good program.

Uh Coach Briles To Interview For Baylor Job
Eagle1855 replied to OldTimer's topic in Mean Green Football
Baylor is a waste of time. He's got a better chance of going to a BCS game at UH than he EVER will at Baylor. In my opinion, Baylor is a dead-end job. They don't want to invest what it takes to be a national power (and who can blame them with the arms race going on around them) and because of that, they'll probably never be competitive in the Big12 in football. That's just the way it is. Meanwhile, UH had an 8-4 rebuilding season... had a chance to beat Bama on the road after getting themselves in a 23 point hole in the first quarter and should have beaten ECU at home. Again, not awful for a rebuilding season. -
I love the SEC.

did you learn this before or after spending time on gmg.com? Shaven Hilltoppers? I was gonna say something about sorority houses, post-game next year...but figured it would be a bit crass for a classy place like this.

that's SMU math.

I agree with these points and I believe most people wouldn't argue with the intent of your original posting- it's logical, it makes sense. Rather it was the pompous ass-ity with which the sermon was delivered that pissed people off. It's not being sensitive, people (generally speaking) don't enjoy being talked down to. A couple other important things to note... we aren't any of the aforementioned teams. Winning DOES matter. Playing named opponents does matter. Playing in a legitimate conference DOES matter. The only reason Boise is among the names you mentioned is because they started WINNING. Becoming one of the schools you mention requires a change in the culture of the University. I personally think that change was effected a few years ago and that we just haven't seen the big payoff- yet. I mean, the fact that we had a chance to post the highest avg crowd in school history in spite of an abortion of a season says A LOT. We're moving in the right direction. Aside from that, this is probably the biggest asswhip of a thread I've read in a long, long time. Seriously, "logo talk" thinks this thread is a beating.

Well there's your answer, UNTSIG... he actually IS the greatest fan of them all.

actually, my prediction of having a pretty strong buzz halfway through the Texas/A&M game was dead-on... the rest of my picks, as has been the case for most of the season, were way off.

So, You Think You Can Afford New Cowboy Stadium $eats?
Eagle1855 replied to NT80's topic in Mean Green Football
I agree that area was to be developed one way or the other... but the AAC being built certainly spurred along the development of Victory Park, which is a huge attraction for living in that area. Without the AAC, I doubt you get VP. -
hell yeah! why the hell not? It's not like the 'fins are playing for anything at this point anyways... why not try something new, see if you get different results. I'll be pulling for him

Im pretty sure nobody had any malicious intent with their comments, no need for the gay card... Im of the opinion that a football team wearing pink helmets is funny no matter who you fancy in the sack
