Well if not a DC, a defensive scheme that works. I believe that if we had any defense, a kicker, and a few less costly turnovers, we'd have won at least a couple more games. QB's usually throw less interceptions as they mature, get used to the system in which they are playing. So I believe the latter will work itself out as Vizza makes better decisions, becomes more comfortable. Having to go for it on 4th down instead of getting 3 points, kicking off, and winning the field position game, really killed us this past year. I don't think people realize how important a good kicking game can be. As for defense, who knows. Ark State, SMU, Navy, and FAU were all there for the taking- we just blew it. Finish those games and we're 6-6 with a new coach, new system. Not great, not terrible... and certainly easier to take than a 2 win season. Plus that puts SMU winless. I think we should have played ULL closer. Despite our turnovers, we were still in that game late. The defense gave up too many big plays. Troy just whipped us. MTSU whipped us in the second half. OU, Ark... we just got out manned, out coached- out everythinged. We're a couple years away from surprising one of these caliber teams. And FIU, ugh. Only thing I can figure is they wanted to avoid losing (for a second straight winless season) more than we wanted to win that game. I think our offense will be to the point where we can win 7-8 games next year, but our defense will have to improve significantly for that to come to fruition. Otherwise, it's gonna be another sub-.500 effort.
