  1. EVEN SO, we see this ALL THE TIME in various publications. I would wager most UNT students, if asked, would say we got our name from Mean Joe Greene as well. At some point, it becomes the University's problem for not getting the correct story out there. That or it's Tracy McGrady's fault.
  2. ha. Losing Roy O on Saturday really hurt... not quite as much as getting teed-the-F-off on during Friday's game, but tough to stomach all the same! Glad to see Valverde grind one out yesterday. Hoping we can sweep them here at Minute Maid. Wouldn't it be something if both teams were in the playoffs this year? Ahhhh so early, but I can dream...
  3. I would venture to say that most people outside of UNT believe the nick name came from Mean Joe Greene... so who is the real douche here, the general public- or the University that cant seem to get the correct story out there?
  4. I happen to think the dogs are actually pretty animals. I'm not saying there aren't risks associated with owning one and I agree, if someone DOES own one, they should be responsible for taking care of it. This is true for any pet or even CHILD for that matter. It isn't that you have to train them to "not kill", it's that so many people train them to BE aggressive. Which is what Rick is talking about. These loser douchebags that think it's cool to have a "tough" animal that is always ready to attack because for many it IS a status thing. When one of these animals gets out, they don't know any other way to react to humans or other animals. They have been trained to be aggressive. The shark comment isn't really relevant. Just because I have a large back yard doesn't mean I'm going to raise a freaking elephant or throw baboons up into my trees.
  5. (understandably) emotional post from well-respected poster + ignorance en masse = jump to conclusion mat! I can't believe the comments in this thread. Pit bulls are great animals. You can't eradicate a species just because some piece of shit human being neglects them or trains them to hurt others. Start fining or jailing the sub-human trash that does this! Make people get a license to breed them. Don't just kill them. My sister had a pit bull for a while, was a great animal. Unfortunately she was a runt, ended up getting really sick all the time, but she was a very sweet dog. It is unfortunate the dog-fighting subculture has made it such that you can hardly even own these pets outside your own property. IF you kill off all the pit bulls, these losers will just find some other dog to breed and manipulate into a dangerous animal. I hope people do some research and form their own opinion instead of going off one person's experience... and that includes mine. These animals are the byproduct of a much bigger problem. Couldn't agree more.
  6. This happens to me all the time. It comes with being mediocre since the 70s... win a few games, go to significant bowl games and you MIGHT be able to change that perception
  7. pariah - pə-ˈrī-ə - one that is despised or rejected : outcast
  8. oh and.... IF this actually came to fruition (and I am still somewhat skeptical) I wouldnt be surprised to see them take Troy or MTSU. They are already heavy on Texas teams... Im not saying it makes sense in my Tex-nocentric world, but it's a legitimate argument. damned margaritas. taking forever to form a cogent-ish thought.
  9. And why should they? We've had a huge bag of relative nothing for decades. Look I like C-USA over the Sun Belt, but it's far from the answer to all our problems. I mean, if our market is so ideal, and our potential so great... why not aim higher? What's the problem? USF started a program in NINETEEN NINETY SEVEN! That's right. 11 years ago. Why not aim higher than C-USA?
  10. 9/11 was an inside job. ...and what exactly is in that pot?
  11. Hahahahaha These threads are freaking AWESOME. I found this site to be interesting. (and no, it isn't a Rick Roll... but this may have been a good place for one... impossible to be angry listening to his sweet voice)
  12. Well, I'll watch just about any football if it's the only thing that is on. I've watched a lot of MAC games the past couple years because of all their zany (yeah I said ZANY) schedules. Tuesday night football? Yes, please.
  13. don't say that, we've got to keep this one-sided rivalry going. If they hear our fans have been talking smack about their coach, they may stop scheduling us.
  14. Oh I doubt this thought process is representative of the majority of UNT students and alums. It's just a few people on a message board with chips on their shoulders that may be the end result of a low sense of self-worth, insecurity, a jealous inferiority complex- or some combination of the three. Either that or it's just a joke. Talking trash much in the same way Horn fans refer to Aggies as "gomers", rednecks, and the like... because it's fun. Oh and kissing SMU fans on the back of the neck isn't going to magically get us a football series. It's not like Christmas where you get what you want if you're really good. It's up to the AD's. They have to believe it is worthwhile- which probably means RV needs to sell it.
  15. Another case of someone missing someone's attempted woe-is-me martyrdom?
  16. As I understand it, the purpose of a message board is to exchange thoughts, opinions, speculation, homerism and the occasional tid-bit of factual information... so there's nothing wrong with a few people disagreeing on a given subject!
  17. Rick Rolling is infinitely more relevant than bashing former UNT coaches. You should learn to appreciate the Rick Roll. That coupled with a high-fiber diet would really improve the quality of your life!
  18. It wasn't meant as an insult... just a terse, sarcastic attempt to make a point. She works hard for the money... hard for the money... she works hard for the money so I'm glad they treat her right.
  19. I guess the better question would be, what do UNT fans have to gain by going out of our way to mock and insult the guy?
  20. If only there were some sort of socio-economic system in place to make sure everyone was paid the same amount of money for their contribution to community. Then we could really start moving towards an educational pancea.
  21. So everyone who goes to UNT is the poor, working class citizen who is just striving to the best person they can be while working towards obtaining an education and everyone at SMU is this arrogant, well-to-do upper class never-worked-for-anything-in-their-entire-life scourge on the face of humanity. Got it. Thank god for college football. I hate to think how such an epic class dispute would be resloved without it.
  22. Man I hope not. I'd like to see the Rangers and the Astros be competitive this year. And that was the faggiest punch I've seen in a long time. Especially for a guy that big. He might as well have limp-wristedly slapped at him.
