Rice has a billboard (I think it's on I-10) that touts their athletics saying something about not only having excellence in the classroom with a picture of Dillard and a few other athletes. I've noticed UH and TSU's billboards around town (though Im not overly impressed with any of them). UTA's got one in the Woodlands on I-45. I have mixed opinions on the use of billboards to promote a university in their own market. If UNT wants to get in the billboard biz, they ought to put them up in Austin and Houston where the brand recognition is noticeably lower.

It isn't really "selling out" when your BUSINESS is in the city of the school you are supporting. It's called MARKETING and it's the same thing everyone on this board calls for local Denton and Dallas businesses to do with UNT- invest in the school in your backyard.

due to unforeseen circumstances, I am now forced to miss the meeting- which I truly regret. Will there be some sort of notes available on what the meeting covered?

Statistically, UH had a really good 3-4 defense last year. They are switching to a 4-3 this year, however, so we'll now be competing for similar players. I believe they will run a balanced offense, which could be to their benefit (TCU as well) in recruiting given the fact that half the state's D-1 programs have gone the spread route. I do agree with TFLF regarding the state of our program. Briles WILL have success at Baylor. He's innovative on offense and loves speed. Both of UH's big-time playmakers were under-sized, but he still found ways to utilize their blazing speed. Seems like everyone around us has now switched to a spread offense of some sort which makes our success the that much more urgent. Otherwise, we'll continue to lose recruits not only to SMU, but Tulsa, Baylor, Ok State, and Tech as well.

SMU is in the same position we were in last year. Exciting new coach, new offense, opportunity for WR's and QB's to really get noticed. If you remember, Hawaii had a pair of receivers that amassed a ton of yardage and TD's last year. This is not a big deal. We followed up our exciting first year of Todd Dodge recruiting with a 2-10 record. We're going to take a hit. Plus we're loaded at WR. Not a big deal!

Won't matter, the world will have ended by then anyways.

I mean what better way to promote such an obscure brand as AT&T than by naming the stadium of a highly-visible, highly-respected Div-1 football team such as UNT? Win-win, I say.

I don't know if we'll ever have the money to print the quantity of posters necessary to get us to that level but I do appreciate your heart-felt optimism!

but but... what about SMU's master plan to eliminate UNT football by not scheduling us?

At the risk of shooting myself in the head, does SMU really "trash" us? I mean besides fans talking trash (much in the same way as everywhere else in college football), I havent ever heard the administration take shots at us.
