Talked To Rick Tonight About The Stadium
Aquila_Viridis replied to UNTflyer's topic in Mean Green Football
Why wouldn't they? North Texas is the only school that has the potential to materially impact those other schools in terms of community interest and recruiting. Maybe you don't remember how poorly NT's effort to establish a law school fared in the legislature. Until the residents of DFW wake up to the fact they are getting the shaft not having a major public university in their region, we can expect more of the same. The idea that this region is properly served by TCU and SMU is tragic. They are only accessible to a few. -

If this requires legislation I fully expect the UT, SMU, TCU, A&M and Texas Tech lobbies to get it killed. -
I assume this went to my address in Austin. Is there a check box for 'serious coaching staff'?

Fair enough, but that's like saying congratulations to the unimpaired kid who takes seven years to pass one grade. I am absolutely outraged at the PRESENT situation, and dismayed by our future outlook absent a material change in mindset by those who really control our school. I am not living in the past.

This is the sort of mismanagement you see in an organization when the top just doesn't care. What will we have to do to get leadership on this? I have no doubt that there is leadership focus on other areas. For some reason they think it's OK to neglect this especially visible area. When the Flute Player Network has the same ratings as ESPN, I guess then we'll be rocking.

Boise has been successful in a much more improbable place. It is a perfectly valid point of comparison. Your point 4 mentions some of the different things they did that led to success, which is exactly what PMG was saying. The fact is, you are soul mates. That is no way to treat your soul mate.

I can only assume you do not have the best interests of North Texas at heart, so who cares what you say. Go away!
-
Did you have to ask him or her to elaborate? I can't even understand what that person is saying.

This is a tough place to win because our school is not committed to winning. If it were, we wouldn't have had these last two jokers for coaches or the ones before them. No doubt the school administration would say 'au contraire' - yes they would actually say that - 'it's because the alumni and students are not committed'. To that, I would say, only the school administration can do the work necessary to build support among the students and alumni. This is one reason we have government, to coordinate and focus the otherwise random and wandering interests of the people. With respect to this issue, the school administration is the government. However, they are asleep at the wheel. This is not a situation where we have to wait decades for successful alumni. In fact we have many of them now. If you think otherwise then you have bought into the same false impression that our miserable football experience unfortunately supports. What we need is our school to take this issue by the horns right now and work tirelessly to persuade people to donate to this specific cause.

Two More Suggestions For A New Head Coach
Aquila_Viridis replied to The Fake Lonnie Finch's topic in Mean Green Football
Good point, on SMU. I thought June Jones was kind of a weird choice for SMU but he did have some things going for him. They have not had much success this year, but I am pretty sure they would beat our team by 40 points. -
You are certainly on the right track, but the school needs to get behind it and coordinate and promote it for it to be effective. That is their day job.

Are we talking about his Subaru Legacy? If he owns one, I think he will take that with him. Heck, he's already had a Buick and a Dodge. As for the stones, yes you are right but they are in the head.

Two More Suggestions For A New Head Coach
Aquila_Viridis replied to The Fake Lonnie Finch's topic in Mean Green Football
You maybe didn't notice, but the game has changed a LOT since 1913. There are a lot more powerful interests than you who do NOT want to see North Texas enter the football space in any significant way. Will you be happy with a Division 2 program? Because that is where we are heading. You people better wake up and start letting your administration and legislators know that you care, and you should get all your friends in the DFW region to let them know they care too, about having a real university in their community, not in Austin or College Station or Lubbock for God's sake. As for the ACU coach, see above regarding Division 2. This would be a watered down version of the high school experiment we are currently enduring. Hello???? As for Turner Gill, if the university is not going to get it together so they can get someone at this level, with demonstrated performance, they may as well quit. Please, one or the other. More of the same will be like looking at a friend in a coma for years. -
Do We Really Want To Hurt Nt Athletics?
Aquila_Viridis replied to OldTimer's topic in Mean Green Football
OldTimer, at the level we can recruit, it is not going to make a difference if we lose some players on the bubble. Our problems are much more fundamental than that. And in all honesty, I would say to a player that has the opportunity to go to a school with an established program or at least one that has a plan to develop a successful program, they should take it. Until our university's governors commit to a comprehensive plan to be successful in football, nothing else is going to matter in regards to our football program. Success will not come without such a plan and commitment. When I see this plan and demonstration of commitment, I'll be back. Until then all we can look forward to is the many years of frustration like you have endured. I have too many other things to do, to endure that. I will again point out that North Texas, because of its location and some other factors, is one of the few schools left, that could capitalize on the rewards of such a commitment, that has not already done so. It is a shocking breach of the public trust for these state officials to ignore this opportunity. Instead of taking action that could materially improve the overall position of this university OF the north Texas region, they sit idly by, all too apparently swayed by adverse interests. You and me and a few hundred others dutifully sending our checks every year in perpetuity and saying positive things will not make a difference in today's game. The university must decide to accept the vision and then WORK to enlist the many thousands of supporters that are needed. When I see that the university has accepted the vision and started the real work, I will do whatever I can to help. Untl then, you bet, about all I have left is criticism. -
Choosing Dodge Was A Bold But Risky Choice
Aquila_Viridis replied to HoustonEagle's topic in Mean Green Football
The Dodge hire NEVER made sense. It was not a 'bold but risky choice'. It was a cheap, half-assed, stupid and small-minded choice. It is sickening to see what this bunch of administration clowns has 'achieved'. However, it does ALL make sense if you assume the proposition that the intent is to kill sports at North Texas. I send out a big 'F. YOU!' to everyone who was behind this. Thanks for the memories! Four words: critical mass of destruction. It's coming, maybe already here. I for one will not continue to support this foolishness or proclaim any affiliation with UNT. It would be like proclaiming support for the Bush administration. Gain the respect and admiration of your peers! Wheeee! -
Hey nice avatar. Now, we should hire the BEST offensive line coach in the country, even if it costs $1 million, who will build a line so dominating that it won't matter who the head coach or other players are.
-
Repent. The end is near.
-
Alternative would be for all coaches to wear that shirt during practices and games. It's sort of green too. I remember reading about there being a problem getting the rights shirts from UA so this is like two birds with one stone, except not with a stone.

The solution is simple. Hire that imperious monkey and discipline problems will be a thing of the past. Would you want that monkey throwing his turds at you, with THAT look on his face?!

Coaching Change, Improvement, Recruiting
Aquila_Viridis replied to The Fake Lonnie Finch's topic in Mean Green Football
Well for one thing he's not the boss. For another, I wouldn't rule out the possibility that the idea for getting him back here was to appease some of our faithful, many of whom were among the ardent supporters of Coach Dodge's hiring. Maybe their ideas aren't very good. Regardless, there is the possibility that it wasn't well received by the head coach, so maybe he's good but not getting to have an effect. Maybe while he was out in LA he turned over a new leaf. Maybe he was abducted by aliens.... -
Coaching Change, Improvement, Recruiting
Aquila_Viridis replied to The Fake Lonnie Finch's topic in Mean Green Football
For my part, I'm not even trying to blame the coaching. The blame lies in the fact that our school and its administration has a half-hearted commitment to football. The administration could lead the rest of the school and its various constituencies to a full commitment, if the administration had a full commitment. They do not. In today's world, if you undertake a competitive activity with a half-hearted approach, you get beat consistently and badly. Due to its location, North Texas has a unique opportunity to capitalize on the benefits of a respected football program. While it would not necessarily make sense for a lot of otherwise comparable schools to make the required investment, it does make sense for North Texas. That is why it is a shame, and against the interests of the university and the community it serves, for the administration to waver. STOP WAVERING! -
Coaching Change, Improvement, Recruiting
Aquila_Viridis replied to The Fake Lonnie Finch's topic in Mean Green Football
As for the statistics, you are really stretching it there. I don't know if it was limited to 2 wins or what. For the sake of discussion, assume it was. That win was almost not a win, it was against a provisional team, and just look at the result THIS week. I wonder if all the coaches in TY's rogues gallery lost so bad every time. Do you really think it would change the result in any significant way to study the ones with the barely third win? The bottom line is, you are asking us to defy history. Based on what? Blind faith I guess, because the results this year and last do not give you anything to go on. My car does not have 'North Texas'. It just has the eagle, like all the people with the longhorn that do not have 'Texas'. I wish I saw more cars with the same, but I have never seen one, other than at or on the way to the games. I log a lot of miles too, particularly on I-35 between Dallas and Austin. I would give a coach several years to build a successful program if I saw appreciable signs of progress in the early stages. We are even past what could be cosidered the early stages, and there has been NONE! I said that hire would be a mistake from the outset, before it was even decided. Now it is time for those who didn't to admit it and call for change. -
Forget about the buyout clause. What about termination for nonperformance?

Coaching Change, Improvement, Recruiting
Aquila_Viridis replied to The Fake Lonnie Finch's topic in Mean Green Football
VE, pull your head out. We are not working toward competing for the SEC or Big 12 championship. I used to think we should wait to change until we could spend 3X more on coaches, but dude we are getting whacked even by the worst teams in D1. I'm going around with an eagle sticker on the car and the people who even recognize it just laugh. We got a bunch of clowns in there, and if you don't see that man you are BLIND. Some other teams are having less than laughable results paying the same level we are. There just is NO sign of life. What in the world makes you think this group will ever head in a different direction???????????? Besides that, did you see the stats TY posted? This goose is cooked. -
And what a large body it is!
