Since we have a new president it's hard to tell if he cares, but it's been evident over the years that there is not a lot of caring by some who steer the university. I mean they don't seem to care about what these embarrassments do to the brand. And I think they have done a poor job overall of building the brand in other ways. They have done some things right, but then stupid stuff like only selling eagle logo merchandise that has the 'North Texas' attached to it. Do you see any other schools where you can't just get the logo to put on stuff without words on it too? I even see that Texas State bobcat on cars all over the place. It doesn't say 'Texas State' on it but I know what it is. I don't want the item to say 'North Texas' cause it doesn't look like what big schools do and it de-emphasizes the eagle which is a more recognizable symbol by itself. That sounds petty but it exemplifies the sort of buffoonery we've consistently had to endure even during the rare good times. Getting blown out by LT, Indiana and UAB is a clown act. They may as well play that 'yackety sax' song at the games. Comedy football, but I don't find it funny. That's how I feel.

Probably it is now presiding over a crawfish boil in Thibodaux. -
Kudos to Canales for putting together a structure that allowed NT to get a big win over SMU without downfield accuracy. Kudos to Holtz for quickly dismantling that structure. If that gets sent out again and Nichols watches the LT game it could be an all time low. I don't know what attitude issue or what is keeping Dajon from starting, but unless he wants to sit for a team with a losing record it needs to get fixed.

Careful! It's a sexual reference. You can google it. Things can get pretty crazy in there!

Thanks for sharing that. I was born in Baltimore so I sure hope he has a lot of success for my Ravens. Definitely need a win tomorrow there too.

Will we find out a lot about our offense in latech game?
Aquila_Viridis replied to EagleGreen's topic in Mean Green Football
To answer the question, yes. Though I'm optimistic because Greer made good progress and looked more in command. Yes the smu defense was in disarray but I think we can move the ball against LT too. I am glad our team is not traveling for the short week. I wish I could make it back down but can't do 2 thousand-mile round trips in a short week. In 30 years of being a Mean Green fan that game Saturday was absolutely one of the BEST experiences I have had as a fan and I am very thankful and proud. So many things are going right. I think the coaches can figure out how to win this game and the players will do a great job executing it. I was really encouraged by our kicker Mr. Moore's success. That guy knows what he is doing; that's going to make a difference especially with the defense playing so well. Onward and upward. Go Mean Green! -

That is an NT tradition since Dickey, the elusive screen pass. It may as well be alien technology. On this night when balls were being tipped up by receivers etc., there was a fear of any pass. Apparently justified and maybe kept it from being 76 points against. However to win NT must pass so it might have been better in the long run to get some actual game work in on it. The defense is good now. As little help as they got from the offense I would say they did alright so NT should take some risk. -

That makes sense but that means frequently you have to not hand it off. NT just kept handing it off that way so the defense knew. -

I am just talking about holding the ball way out there for the RB to see for three seconds. If the RB needs that the RB is doing something wrong. -

This player's statement makes a lot more sense to me than the coach saying the QB competition is open. I do not want the competition to be open going into the second - and far more important - game. I accept that the QB success depends a lot on the success of the players around him at their jobs. Nobody is going to step in there and make up for it by themselves if there are a lot of other things going wrong. I would say this specific to the QB the other night: change the way they are doing handoffs cause you are giving the defense several extra seconds of telling them exactly what you are about to do. Now maybe there were a bunch of failed exchanges in practice or something but you may as well risk it. It looked like middle school football. If that's where we're at let me know so I can spare myself the 500 mile trip this week. -
The bowl was a great milestone but it is not going to be all up from there. Hopefully it will trend up over time. I just think if someone can throw against a good defense they will have better options. What do you do about that? Frankly athletics is the least of North Texas' problems. Take a look at Forbes college rankings to see where we stand. On a positive note, I did see an eagle on the helmets even from that horrendous upper deck. Also UT got a lot less per carry than I thought they would. And if you want to say I had low expectations then you were not being realistic.

Sure am glad to see I'm not the only one who's so worried about UTSA. Why just this morning some of my cereal happened to arrange itself into the shape of a disembodied road runner head and - oh what a fright. I'm hoping the NCAA will come to its senses and banish these mighty competitors to the NFL where they belong. If we could just get them off the schedule we probably would go undefeated. It's so unfortunate that UTSA is the only thing standing in the way of our dreams. They only taunted us by sending their players to masquerade as North Texas players and win the HOD bowl for us. Now they are scheming to take it all away by bringing out their seasoned juniors and seniors to destroy our team next season. And the seasoning is mesquite flavor too. Oh the humanity!

green eagle on helmet = win

They are just pandering to their big conference audience. This is one of only maybe 6 bowls that does not feature a big conference school and it is at the same time as several others that do. This is what we are gonna get until there is a longer track record of winning. At least we are potentially at the start of that. Do not be discouraged.

ESPN's assessment is consistent with this being the only bowl they stuck on ESPNU which most people don't even have. After the first few, for this ranking they probably added their estimates of the collective fanbase of each of the two schools and put the results in descending order. For TV exposure, one problem with this bowl is there are so many other ones on at the same time. And of course we get this bowl the year it occurs on a Wednesday. For someone who has to travel, that is a challenge. Still, a win will cancel all these issues.

It's up to our team to ultimately determine whether this matchup is good or bad for the program. Winning this game would be better than losing to a Big 10 or ACC opponent. Yes we would have a chance of beating one of those teams, but our chances of beating UNLV are much better. There are not exactly a lot of bowl wins in our history. A bowl win would be really significant, no matter who it is against. Accordingly, any of you complaining about the opponent should cease doing so immediately. If the Mean Green do not win the game then you can start up again and I'll probably join in.

Were YOU there? And OK we got two or three good wins. Sorry - they seem like a distant memory now.

Well that is pitiful for at least a couple of reasons. For one, it is sad that NT fans are having to look to some other school's rise to give us something to care about. More importantly, were you there? It is pretty clear that the leadership at your 'rival' would not be content to have something as stuck in first gear (and often reverse) as North Texas, as a rival for long. When they leave for the AAC or MWC, maybe we can all hope that SFA or ACU will move up to be our rival. We have got several wins against creampuffs this year and one good win. It is progress from the absolute netherworld that our leadership got us in, but UTSA shows really how listless our program is by external standards. During my long drive down to see this disheartening display, I saw a run-over coyote. What a spot-on omen, and symbol of the result. All that aside, the real reason we lost is: no more bird on the helmet. On the other hand, we always have that 'North Texas' on there to remind us who we are.

If we had 'paid our dues', the infant legacy of a failed NFL bid by one of America's poorest cities per capita would not be catching up, even with the significant advantage of PUF funds that UT System institutions enjoy. Maybe the old green stoner is finally deciding to shape up, but don't say he's been paying his dues all these years. Those few of us who really care about him though, have certainly paid our dues.

I have investigated their location and as if being in San Antonio wasn't enough, the main campus' ready access to the Leon Creek Greenway provides enough jealousy to adequately fuel my rage and hatred of utSA. It is too bad that an away game would not involve going anywhere near the campus though. This should not be an object of pity however; only spite. They are like a panhandler with a cool hat but a detestable attitude and a foul odor.

Since there is no way they could have a swamp in that arid place, couldn't they have put in a Lazy River like at Hyatt Hill Country? At least TX State has a river and springs. I can't properly hate on them in place of Monroe unless they have something that makes me almost want to like them. Connection via roller coaster to Fiesta Texas would do it.
