Ranking of the Value of C-USA Programs
Aquila_Viridis replied to Coach Bill Lewis's topic in Mean Green Football
To call MT's Murphy Center a "quality facility" tells you all you need to know about this So Miss dreck. That is the worst facility I have ever been in! -
Regardless, now they are carrying on about them and thus expose them to the scorn and ridicule of the Mean Green internet.

LMAO! And since the letters are going down, they should change them to TITANIC.

It's a tough schedule in that if our performance could be expected to match our standing as a university, there are 4 wins on it, barely. I'll be interested to see the new Forbes rankings when they come out maybe the first week of July, to see if we can vault the 3 spots needed to clear the mighty Tennessee Tech for example. That's sort of an esoteric benchmark (I go through Cookeville on my way to beautiful East TN.), but the point is, we are in the bottom sixth of major universities. The good news is, unlike the TN Techs of the world, we ARE a major university and have separated from some of the schools that used to be in our league. Now 4 of those CUSA schools on this schedule, years ago were in a league clearly at a higher level. But only one of those is below NT, and by one single spot. There is progress, but our competition ain't going to lay down and die. So you may have to remind me I said this, but as of today I suggest not to jump off the NT train if all you see is 4 wins this season. Put your eagle sticker on the window and show people you expect to be counted as in the game just like all the hog fans I see between here and there. Just know that at 268 they have every right to laugh at 553. Though in terms of 'major' universities, I only count about 35 between the two. We're comin' for 'em. But vaulting that many major universities may take a century. Buy a lot of stickers.

Why Not a Team Like Virginia?
Aquila_Viridis replied to Side Show Joe's topic in Mean Green Football
Bad as dear old UVA is, it would be a whoopin of NT. Bronco may turn out to not be a good fit for Tidewater recruiting, but I expect a better team this year than his first season last year. -
I don't think there's any dispute that the leaders and supporters of Houston have always wanted it more than the leaders and supporters of North Texas. And unfortunately for both, the price to be involved has gone up so much, but so have the rewards.
-
Let me put it this way, if a Nashvillain went to Texas and someone asked where they are from, they are NOT going to say "Middle Tennessee". But if a person from Dallas or one of the many surrounding communities went to Tennessee and someone asked where they are from, they MIGHT say "North Texas".

Baylor should be shut down. And by the way so should Texas Tech but for completely different reasons. Also A&M should be renamed University of East Texas. What a wonderful world that would be.
-
You do realize I live in Tennessee and only three hours from Nashville? What I am telling you is, when you got to Nashville nobody is talking about things going on in "Middle Tennessee" but when you are in DFW people do say "North Texas" especially on TV. Yes there is an area known to some extent as Middle Tennessee but it is not referred to as such very much at all. I refer to UT as the University of Central Texas.

And the G5 salary escalation continues
Aquila_Viridis replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
There's a lot of desperation about the Memphis Tigers here. Their basketball has unsustainable expectations but is on the precipice. So they have seen some hope about the football especially with that recent recruiting class. They saw Louisville get away again and now having huge success. But in their hearts they probably know they can't get there. Meanwhile they'll throw a relative ton of money at the whole thing but it can't be enough. I just wonder for how long they'll keep it up. -
Would This Be Acceptable Re: Mizzou?

Nobody said anything about Baylor coming to NT. But since you effectively asked the question, I do not want them in Denton. And that's despite the fact it is an entirely different situation. If anything, Baylor would be helping to legitimize us. But no thanks. We had plenty of reasons to detest them the last time they came up, but since then they went over the edge. -

If their values are advancing through excellence, integrity and transparency, then right that is a match. If their values are getting the best athlete even though criminal and then circling the wagons, then no that is not a match. -
Also I thought I should add some perspective after having gone through two admission cycles with Texas and Tennessee residents respectively. From the prospective student perspective NT is in a better place overall than MT. MT is behind Memphis and even Chattanooga. While NT is behind Houston, it is not behind SFA for example. Sure there are some students who would choose SFA for unique reasons, but that would not be the general perspective of pedigree. In Texas yes there are more schools to be behind, but there are many times more people, and many more schools that NT is ahead of. I definitely think that MT is a team that NT should play regularly but not necessarily every year. Southern Miss I can totally live without.

Not many Nashvillains will ever think of themselves primarily as Middle Tennesseans. Middle will always be Middle, but they have had a better commitment to their athletics than NT, especially on a relative basis. Nashville metro is tiny compared to the North Texas region. That is only an advantage for Middle if NT keeps playing the same game. It should not be an advantage for them.

I am still expecting that from all this Liberty is going to do something to help our AD make this look good from strictly a deal standpoint. However, no matter how good it looks from a deal standpoint, it means we are no different from Liberty in how they act to advance, and that will never be worth it.

Rudy, it is not 'any college we disagree with'. Have we ever singled out any other school like this before? And it is not an issue about Christian faith. It is an issue about the signals that that institution's leadership is giving off about what they will do to advance. I do not see value playing Missouri. I expect they recruit a consistently higher caliber of player at all positions. Those are not teams we should play, even for a million dollars. We have to build a tradition of winning. -
For those interested in Liberty and it's facilities

And it is precisely 'how they do things' that is objectionable. They seem to have a cult mentality. But this is not some little cult in a shack. They have a lot of followers. The timing of all this is particularly concerning, with the president - chief of the Armed Forces, including Army by the way - appearing there. Combine it with their shameless hiring from Baylor and there is a large stench emanating from Lynchburg, and now from our schedule. -

NT should not help legitimize this bunch no matter who else is participating. They openly aspire to be Baylor. Something weird is going on with this series, and it's no good. Maybe they used money and influence with the administration to get some things they wanted from us. As for 'just a football game', that go-along mentality was probably contemplated and expected by whoever agreed to do it. You'll fit right in at Liberty. -

I think this Liberty thing might be the last straw for me. We're clearly dealing with the kind of people who will stop at nothing to get what they want and who will silence any dissent from within. If that's what it takes to be regularly competitive, then that is not a goal for me anymore which means I just don't care about the athletics. The more I read about Liberty and its leaders the worse I feel about this association, even if it means some wow factor visiting teams somehow. -
Give me Liberty or give me death!
Aquila_Viridis replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
Maybe someone at Liberty has influence with someone else at another school we want to come play in Denton. -
One of the big problems with the Liberty thing is that any players, staff or fans who go up there face a material chance of getting brainwashed. They're real good at it.
