Overheard in Rogers, Arkansas restaurant
Aquila_Viridis replied to emmitt01's topic in Mean Green Football
I was at the Auburn game. The biggest difference was how hard the NT defense worked to get pressure. Auburn got pressure but they more relied just on having a lot of mountainous dudes. NT defense was super active and confused the hogs bad from the start. The more we see of that, the better! -
LT is a tiny school in the middle of nowhere. The expectation for North Texas in general should be to consistently destroy their kind of program. Typically they very much overperform and that is impressive; if they really expect to win you’d think they would be making NT out to be world-beaters so such theoretical win would be impressive. They seem confused/doubtful about their team’s prospects. I on the other hand, believe in the Mean Green.

***THE OFFICIAL NORTH TEXAS vs. LIBERTY GAME THREAD***
Aquila_Viridis replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
I was at the Auburn - Ark game tonight expecting a 60 pt beatdown that didn't happen. I saw this beatdown of Fascism - I mean Liberty - in the 4th quarter and this is the best I've ever felt about NT football. It helps that somehow odu got VT. Wow!- 632 replies

I see we have the people rushing to defend Fascism - I mean Liberty - university. It is not a libertarian place, my friends. It is a place where you walk the walk and talk the talk, or else.

Final Thoughts on UA Game from PokeyPig
Aquila_Viridis replied to PokeyPig's topic in Mean Green Football
Let’s just put all of this silliness out of the way. The inspiration for The Punt Return was clearly Divine. -
La Tech Fans Take Notice of UNTvArk
Aquila_Viridis replied to Jason Howeth's topic in Mean Green Football
I imagine many future LT fans were conceived at the Captain Ds. Good times! -
After that display Saturday, why would anyone have lack of confidence in our team to go up and beat hell out of these pretenders? Don’t get me wrong, Fascism - I mean Liberty - may even be a better team than Arkansas at this point, but not much better in any case.

That is nice they are giving work to aspiring young architects. I figure in the original design it was pink and had a few more pony ups, and maybe some glitter and various types of uncooked noodles.
-
It will be an improvement over what they have, so good for them. As for tops in facilities, absolutely not. Our stadium is much more impressive looking. The press box thing will look very familiar to high school athletes but that’s not going to be an advantage in recruiting.

NCAA Significantly Changes Kickoff Rules
Aquila_Viridis replied to Cerebus's topic in Mean Green Football
The rulemaking exercised great restraint by not awarding points to the receiving team for a fair catch. Or did they just leave room for such amendments in the future??? -
There should be no shame. Other schools of every description are pushing to rise above. The extent of it would come as a shock to most alumni. And many of them would ask ‘What’s the point?’ And it is a really legitimate question. NT and supporters need to have a good answer.
-
Abandonment is not the right course. It is true that NT appeals disproportionately to students who were not in the In Crowd in high school. It is also true that many of those people come in looking for a situation where disengagement is the norm. That is because the rah rah stuff reminds them of exclusion. But it does not take much consistent enjoyment at the athletic events to turn that around. 6-0 at home is a great start, because not much fun will be had when there are a lot of losses. But we have to get a lot more of winning games to win hearts and minds. The opportunity unfortunately is lost with many alumni. It has to be present- and forward-looking. Where the money comes from then, to get those wins, is a huge challenge. I wish I had an answer, and I hope the people in charge now can figure one out.

Littrell and Wilson both applied for Tennessee
Aquila_Viridis replied to Coach Bill Lewis's topic in Mean Green Football
Why not apply? You have an expectation anyone would stay at NT instead of taking the TN job with the huge increase in pay and recognition? And it doesn’t invalidate the positive stuff about NT. NT is also a great opportunity. But not on the same order of magnitude at this time. -
Are they talking about building it on the north side of downtown when the UAB is on the south side of downtown? That would be a terrible idea! The only thing that would make sense is to try and make that more of an integral campus, and they have made improvements. I guess maybe they think they’re gonna get an NBA team for that little arena by the convention center? Oh man that is all sad and crazy.

It is a place for people who either are ready to buy into wide-eyed groupspeak nonsense or are willing to proclaim it despite knowing it’s nonsense. And I’m not talking about the actual spiritual stuff. All that sadness we read about Liberty and shutting down the naysayers; Liberty didn’t invent that.
-
Bullshit. There is no denying that Baylor has a special version of such problem. They just need to be shut down. I mean, not just the athletics; the whole place.

UTEP moving to Mountain West?
Aquila_Viridis replied to Coach Bill Lewis's topic in Mean Green Football
This is a lot of speculation based on NMS desperation. -
I would have thought it just collapsed in the middle cause so long for a concrete segment, but in the video it looks like the support on the left gave way or it fell off that support. I was impressed by the drivers who immediately got out and ran forward to help. It’s what you should do of course, but to see people actually doing it is at least one encouraging sign in such a terrible tragedy.
-
What a disaster. Especially sad when the purpose is to keep people out of harm’s way by avoiding a dangerous road crossing. I thought of our bridge over 35 and the structures are very different. That FIU has a lot of concrete particularly with the cover. There is no center support. The middle span of ours is probably comparable in length but ours has a heavy metal cage on the bottom and the cover is light metal not concrete. I wonder how much real world testing they put on an experimental structure before they deployed it with peoples’ lives at stake.

WKU AD faces $1.3M reduction in budget
Aquila_Viridis replied to Coach Bill Lewis's topic in Mean Green Football
I don’t know when ‘fans’ ever made it clear not to join MWC. This fan is all in favor of it. Beyond that, we don’t do this just to be on TV so no reason to expect TV will pay for it. And we don’t do it so a handful of people can drive to every away game. NT needs a national, metropolitan reputation that has to be funded by other means if necessary. It’s FLY like an eagle, not ride the bus like an eagle. -
Finally a (much appreciated) win!

ODU looking to bail C-USA?
Aquila_Viridis replied to Coach Bill Lewis's topic in Mean Green Football
NMS, LaLa, Troy. You’re out of your mind. We have got to stay out of places like that. That jackass ODU writer was talking about JMU too. Same type of nonsense. Why not put Nacogdoches and Abilene on your list of fantasy destinations? -
