  1. I wish Ark St & Lafayette well but I don't want them in cUSA. Those schools are part of UNT's history that I want to forget. It took a great deal to move on from the Belt, let's not now bring more of the Belt with us.
  2. 1) I like playing 1 game a year against top opponents. First, it brings in money. Second, It helps recruiting for kids to know they will occasionally play Alabama, Oklahoma, Texas, et al. Third, I like to sometimes fantasize about UNT Being mentioned in the same breath as a top-10 school. Fourth, sometimes (albeit rarely) we win. I still like to remember beating Tennessee. 2) I don't like playing FCS schools. I wouldn't drive across town to watch UNT play Abilene Christian. 3) I love playing the service academys. The games are winnable. They are amenable to signing home-and-homes. And even when we lose to a service academy I feel perversely patriotic. 4) I hate playing Sunbelt teams. I don't even like playing former Sunbelt teams.
  3. We've always recruited Oklahoma with some success. If memory serves, we hit Louisiana heavily under the previous regime with really bad results.
  4. The young man seems genuinely excited to be at North Texas. I'm excited to have him here.
  5. Three points: I disagree with the guy about paying college athletes. College athletes are amateurs, not pros. Paying them makes them pros. I agree with what he said about Middle Tennessee State & found the remark about their Long-Haul Driving School hilarious. The blonde was gorgeous.
  6. Cool. I bet Coach Corbin & I are the only posters on this board who known where McKenzie Tennessee is.
  7. Actually, I think most of us do police ourselves fairly well. I usually drive 75 on the interstate - cop or no cop. I don't drink and drive. I don't access on-line gambling sites on my work computer. I don't rob the 7-11. I don't cheat on my taxes. I'm rule-governed. Most of us are.
  8. I agree. Common sense says that you act respectfully towards the man with the badge (and a gun). It should also be remembered though that the officer works for you. Most (> 99%) cops are dedicated to enforcing the law fairly and intelligently, a few though are thugs and bullies. That shouldn't be tolerated. It's a disservice to the good cops and to the community they serve.
  9. And your reading my post to say that such things are frequent displays a sad lack of comprehension.
  10. I suspect he would love me more if I could afford to give more. What I can give, I do. Not to RV, but to UNT. This is my university. It is in large part responsible for whatever success I have enjoyed in life.
  11. "Hell, you may even give RV an extension." I probably have an earlier problem with RV than you. I was a avid supporter of Lynn Dickey. I thought RV's attitude toward Dickey was ridiculous. However, I think it's more ridiculous to ignore the good things that RV has done since that time - being a big factor in building Apogee & in marshaling the support of big-money donors. It would be short-sighted to not recognize those accomplishments. I think he's made some terrible hires in FB & BB, but I'm willing to still support his latest hire & give Coach Littrell the benefit of the doubt. Give RV an extension? I'll leave that decision to the UNT administration. Whatever they decide, I'll support in whatever small way I can. I'll support my university & not just because I have a $750 investment in my seats.
  12. And your suggestion that this never happens is naïve.
  13. A good idea - yes, but it doesn't seem like something you should die for.
  14. Bringing a 1-win team to bowl eligible is, in my opinion, an accomplishment.
  15. Perceptions differ: "UNT has landed some very significant donations over the last few months, something athletic director Rick Villarreal and his staff deserve a lot of credit for helping procure."
  16. Of course, if Coach Littrell does go 6-6 by the third year, a goal '90 seems to think is reasonable, he'll still find a way to cast a negative light on that accomplishment.
  17. Not sure, '90. How has negativity worked out for you?
  18. I suspect fans on both sides of the RV-divide gave you a plus-1 on this post. Some because they read it as subtle sarcasm, others because they thought you were in dead earnest.
  19. Five years from now, if UNT hasn't been to 3 straight bowls, half the posters on this board will claim they were the one who gave the 'F'.
  20. Doesn't it get old obsessing about a man who doesn't even know you exist?
  21. I'm really glad '90 ain't a cop. Most law enforcement show common sense in the enforcement of laws - some don't.
  22. You haven't been paying much attention to congress lately, have you? I like your idea concerning RV. It would allow UNT to benefit from his strengths & also bring in someone to deal with the problems the Athletic Department faces. I'm afraid there are two difficulties: First, you'll be paying RV a lot to perform his new limited role. Second, I'm not sure his ego (or anyone's ego for that matter) would allow him to accept the demotion. Does anyone remember Matt Simon being given a non-coaching position when he was replaced by Dickey? I don't remember that working out real well.
  23. '90, everything will be alright.
  24. If the 'big donors' are preventing the president from doing his job that's a problem with the president, not the Athletic Director. Yes, I will be at Apogee as much as I can. Thank you for not criticizing me for that. I don't criticize you for expecting better. I criticize the persistence with which you express your negativity.
  25. Chicken Little was just a messenger. I'm very ambivalent about RV. I hated that he couldn't seem to work with Coach Dickey. I loved that he was part of the effort that gave us Apogee. I'm not sure if he should stay or be replaced. But I do think that decision should be made by the UNT President and the Group of 17 (if there is any such thing) and not by a bunch of disgruntled fans. The banner and much of what has been said on this forum were classless. Being a supporter of UNT athletics takes courage. There are depressing down-times, but that only makes the good times the sweeter.
